Still can't compare to digging out everything in my Dice Bag and then saying "OK, I'm going to roll these twice, and then 6 more shots." FRFSRF Rocks ;D

I think that the Punisher is ok. Its not great, but it gets the job done (usually) for me. Nothing is more satisfying than saying "ok my punisher is going to shoot that guant squad" *gathers dice, watches as opponent gasps in horror as he realizes that all 20 dice are from the punisher* ....;D *Opponent takes sigh of reflief when you only manage to kill three.* I see no point to this varient. Besides, that standard russ would have blown them all straight to hell without passing Go and collecting $200.

But with some HB sponsons I would see this is a horde annihilator tank =) Well, then just take the Exterminator. It's shots have AP, and are twin linked, and have the same Str as the Punisher cannon (or better, in the case of the Autocannons). It's less shots, but it's cheaper, and has a better chance of killing what it hits. You can also used the points you saved to stick HBs in three Infantry Squads, giving you even more AI. This sums up my thoughts on taking the Punisher perfectly.Reds

Quick question to all the punisher bashers. Who has actually tried one?
Cos yes, no AP isn't great, but if ur against smurfs, they will get a save anyway against pretty much anything, and there is so many cover saves, getting a 5-10 man squad with half or more in to area terrain is hardly difficult.
Not saying I'll be getting one, but any specific examples and not just hypotheticals?

Tried one a couple times, had one used on me a couple times (both by proxy, obviously. The only time I've found the Punisher to be worth it is when it has Pask, making an already expensive tank even more overpriced, just t0o make it cost effective.
I took a Pask Punisher against Orks, and it did decently against a Mob. I took a Punisher (sans Pask) against Orks again, and it sucked, especially since the Orks had cover most of the time (as they usually do when I play this guy). I had a squad of Camo Vets on an objective, and my opponent unloaded TWO of them on the vets for THREE TURNS. He still didn't kill them all.
If you want to kill infantry out of cover, take an Exterminator. If you want to kill infantry in cover, take an Eradicator.

If you want to kill MEQ's, LRMBT all the way. 2+ wound, Instant kill, no armor save, large blast.
Whenever I used a punisher it never made up it's points.

Thanks. I just find it so rare that my battle cannons shots hit people in the open, that peeps are generally getting cover saves anyway.
I run an exterminator 3 heavy bolters and stubber (prob my fav tank tbh) in almost all my forces anyway, so will be avoiding the punisher then.

Ok I reckon I'm just about to put up the most unpopular post on this thread, since everyone else seems to agree in hating the Punisher! I personally absolutely love them and I now always take one with Pask peering nobley from the turret hatch. They look absolutely awesome, they have the kind of bucketload of firepower which is what being a guard player is all about, and they are devestating against Monstrous creatures. The biggest threat to my soft human wall is always the big Tyranid beasties or Deamon Princes and from experience I've found the best way to bring them down is to make them take as many saves as possible! With H20 that hits on 3+ and rerolls to wound you're gonna be making them take 10+ saves in all likelihood. Plus the melta shots also hitting on 3s! My Punisher (currently a proxy) has 4 Carnifexes, a Deamon Prince, a Terminator Squad and their Land Raider (with meltas it can make life pretty difficult for vehicles too!) to it's name already in 5 games! There's just so many dice...
