I have never used them, I can uderstand why people like them though. They are quite pricey in points though, not sure if I would want to place too many in one squad.

Love them, I use a squad, they've always proved useful. Although I have fallen victim to them... A dark angels sniper blew a hole in the front armor of my chimera once and it killed everyone inside...it was my first game btw...lol...everyone except the commissar, who jumped out heroically and all crazy he sliced a space marine! ...anyways...snipers are great.

Sniper=Very cool... They're useful for taking out Rhinos and such when those damn assault marines wipe your AT squads out

I don't use them all of the time, it depends on who I'm fighting, pointless if your opponents are fearless, as pinning is one of the pros in taking them.
I disagree that they are expensive, okay if you take the Light Infantry Doctrine and upgrade the heavy weapon to a sniper rifle then it is, however Rattlings most definitely aren't, 33 points for the squad minimum of 3, for that they get a +1 cover save and can opt to pin themselves rather than running. Also this only allows you to have 1 sniper in each squad, which is less than useful.
Also they hit on a 2+ regardless and wound on a 4+, plus I have used them in several battles and have destroyed a tooled up Demolisher, a fully loaded LMRBT and a Predator, plus 2 or 3 Devil Fish, in addition they have caused a Tau commander in a Crisis Suit to break and he fell back off the table, hows that for 55 points (it was a squad of 5), granted not all in the same battle.
Snipers IMHO should actually hit on a 2+ and wound on a 3+ and ignore armour or cover saves, this would then reflect that they are the best shots in the Imperium! It seems odd that a sniper fails to kill or wound at all every time, granted the point costs would need to go up a bit to reflect this say to 15 points instead of 11 points for a Ratling and the Sniper Rifle then being 10 points instead of 5 points for Space Marines.
Also I play SM sometimes and I'm not quite sure why they don't get a modifier to their cover save, Ratlings do as well as Eldar snipers, not sure about other armies though?
Just my thoughts, but I do like snipers. Have an Elysian army to build and have the sniper teams already!! they look very cool, especially as they can act independently in teams of 2!!

Granted they aren't great, although you could do what I did and just model a ghillie suit on them, although I also have my 5 painted as 95th Rifles (you know as in Sharpe, with napoleonic green tunics) they look quite good, and many peopl have commented on how good they look, but yes the models are long overdue an over haul. There are other makes out there that you could proxy, although at an official GW event you wouldn't be allowed to take them and LOTR is too small.

Yeah, S.M scout snipers can be a (for want of a better word,) pain! A friend of mine uses them all the time. Combine them with loads of Devestator marines and missile launchers and you end up with all your armour usually being dead by turn three! Grrrrr!

A bit late but........ oh well, I did hide them behind cover and I usually keep a squad either side of a tank to cover the flanks. It doesn't always work. I hate snipers!

Ah but only an arrogant commander will not listen to reason to win the battle! You must use anything you must to crush the enemies of the emperor!

Snipers are for those who don't know how to use other equipment (and I don't get a good LoS in cityfights that often)
