Well they are great for use in urban terrain. Especially if the enemy forgets about them and you shoot the rear armour on a tank...muhahah!

You would really use snipers if you normally only have a LoS of about 12"? I wouldn't do that as it's just stupid. It's a point sink that doesn't give you any use. Weapon of choice in the urban territory I fight in is a mortar. (Tanks normally work, but as even the streets have enough difficult terrain on them everybody normally avoids using more then 2 tanks)

Well if you use snipers carefully they are great in urban settings. Tanks are useless unless given total infantry support, otherwise they go boom really fast.

On 10" snipers are useless trust me. I tried that already As long they don't get shots at a range from 24"-36" they die too fast. Tanks are on the urban maps I play also useless if they get infantry support as they normally can be just stopped by the mass of terrain on the narrow streets they have to maneuver. If one tank is killed the other normally has to move through buildings to get past the other tank.

knight you got some serious anti sniper anxst going on. i personally love them in all enviroments the little fellas plus one to a cover save is a little cheeky little number, and there killing rate is superb, against smaller specilist armies that are point expensive like smurfs, elder, choas smurfs etc the kill more then they cost even at one good volly i've wiped out termie squads costing a couple hundred in one turn of shooting where as a full squad of the little hobbits are only just over the ton, in facti i totally disagree with your anlysise of them being crap in builduings if you go high with a squad of cheap as chips grunts at the bottom of the builduing to absorb any cheeky hand to hand nonsense and there winners every time in fact mr knight i would say its that a good commander would know how to deploy there snipers to the best effect in all terrain, especially against small squads like the types used by points sink units 10 inchs is all you need as if you get good roles you can wipe out over half the squad in a round panic or pin them then use the cover squad to flame the survivors into hades. and at worst the enemy will be so sh** scared of them they will spend ages trying to blast them out when the stunty little cover save comes into its own.

1. I don't allow these little rattling abhuman scum (hides the Afriel Strain troopers). So no improved cover saves etc. Even if I wanted I wouldn't know where to take the doctrine point for Rattlings from. 2. Chaos Cult Marines are normally really unimpressed by all the pinning that you try to cause. I think that has something to do with the "Fearless" [/sarcasm] Also my other standard opponents are more or less unimpressed by that (Tyranids normally ignore anything like that and Eldar are far better snipers) 3. Snipers tend to be only good against really big stuff like the C'tan, Carnifexes, Swarm Tyrants, etc. But smaller targets are normally unimpressed.
So these are my reasons why I favor the mortars in urban terrain. Inderct fire with pinning over long distance is just far more interesting then direct fire with sniper rifles over short distances. So if you like your sniper rifles, fine. Use them. I don't like them and they normally don't work well for me. So I don't use them and I won't start using them just because you like them...

This wasnt about makin you use them it was asking who did. And they work well for m,e unlike mortars which can turn back and kill your own troops.

I agree with sammy, you can either waste half a enemy squad with snipers or the enemy will shoot at them with the big mean stuff. They are exceptionally good against tyranids because you use them to take out their synaps. I have one many a game from the use of taking out synaps with snipers. Urban terrain games really show what they can do because you can move them in behind all vehicles the enemy has and then destroy them where the armour is weakest. Dont hate them cause they are abhuman, theres also ogryns and many other abhuman species legal to the guard. For your army maybe you dont use them but some do therefore you cant flame them, flame GW.

not trying to bully any one but im a massive fan i never fight without the full ten stunties, there great. they've never let me down and even just putting the on the game board is enough to start getting oponents jumpy. after all each to there own but there a very useful tool and to any generals out there that havent tried them, yet give them a little go, i think there great point for point on a real good day they can be a complete game winner. snipers are great they give you the ability so you can reach out and touch somebody!

Yes I agree with that one sammy. Everyone should at least try them once. Even I tried them, but they didn't statisfy my expectations in them and they didn't justify their costs. But everyone should perhaps try to field snipers (SWS or Rattling, I used the SWS ones).

OK sorry for being so hot headed but I never meant to make this to get people to get mad and not want to try it. No I made this to talk with the ppl who like them. Either way Point taken.

Whats wrong with hobbits. The fact that the LOTR miniatures are smaller doesn't matter because ratlings are supposed to be small. When I convert mine I'm going to use a mixture of shirrifs and archers with long-las rifles instead of bows. I think the usefulness of these warriors is as great as customizing possibilities.

Converted hobbits? Sounds interesting. But still nothing for me And btw who told you that erm "nice" nickname? Someone who doesn't like you? And for that poor Oberst (Colonel), if I'd be him I'd commit suicide because of that name or marry some woman with a lot better name (and trust me every name would be better and also everyone trust me you don't want to know what his name's translation is)

FOR THE WIN!!! NUBZORS I dont look up things in german usually. Thanks Knight, I'd never have bothered looking that up otherwise. It sounded like a regular name albeit strange. He was a character in Beerfest, my favorite movie. I guess he did commit suicide, thus explaining my change to an army of toy soldiers. That and the cost of chimeras for a mechanised army. Now its all infantry and Rough Riders.

Snipers are great. 60 Points or something like that, Hits on a 2+ wounds on a 4+ and if they fail, they make a pinning test
Just them pins have turned the game in my favour.
