The older metal stormtroopers have weapons that look more like normal lasguns to me.
If GW wanted us to use Kasrkin as carapace they would have given us three special weapons per set and kasrkin heavy weapon teams.(Well maybe not, but you see my point right?)
The only offical veterans in carapace armor models made by GW are the Voystroyans.

Voystroyans are expensive and look completely different from all the other models tho which is why many wont use them. And since when has GW done anything clever or thought through like that Ymmot? lol

Shucks, personally I use Steel Legion as my vets in carapace and Cadians for my normal infantry and kasrkin for my stormtroopers.
So that's just my preference.

Each to their own, I don't have much right now so ca't really aruge about it but my latest fluff means i can add any unit to my army Also atm i'd rather use greenstuff and other plastic kits to make stormies and vets. Considering they are ment to be a centre piece I'd like to be able to make their stances and equipment more to my style and taste. It's the problem with metal models, they don't seem to have that much more detail, you cant pose them or equip them (without quite a bit of effort) and they cost 2/3rds more! :/

ah but Ymmot, I think the reason they weren't released (or even provided with) heavy weapons was because when they came out they were kind of the Cadian version of stormtroopers (when GW went Cadia crazy...) They deffinately have a place as Stormies (hell, they're even in the "elites" section on the website), and I certainly wouldn't argue that they're not stormies... I just prefer the other ones But... I wonder how viable/possible it would be to convert a Kasrkin to hold a heavy weapon...

Exactly my point, when GW made them they intended they be used as Stormtroopers. (As players we oughta be able to use them as what ever we want, I'm not going to stop a game or make any negative comments if somebody brought a squad of kasrkin to the table and told me they were veterans.)
I've got nothing against the other sculpt either, I have a squad of ten of those guys kicking around as well.
I just don't like them as much, too many exposed faces... the ones I have all got a pair of SMurf scout night vision goggles. (which makes them look a bit googly eyed.)
Now as far as what would best represent actual cadian kasrkin. stormies or veterans?(fluff wise)
Yes they are trained on cadia and selected from the cadian regulars, but I do believe the are given extensive additional training and indoctrination. Stationed on the edge of the eye of terror they would be able to make the most use out of hotshot lasgun powerpacks...
Oh and the way they behaved in Eisenhorn, a bit brainwashed and fanatical don't you think? Much truer to the personality of Stormtroopers. Veterans tend to be a little more weary of such things.

As I recall, Eisenhorn was actually a bit intimidated by them.

From what I can remember with the kasrkins, the models came out the same time as The Eye of Terror codex. That codex has the Cadain army list with the kasrkins. They have the same stats and gear as storm troopers. I think they were suppose to be Cadia's version of storm troopers. I think this is why they only have special weapons and not heavy weapons. I think this is why a lot of players use them as storm troopers (myself included). Also another reason was the fact after awhile, the Kasrkins were the only storm trooper type of models you could easly buy at stores. The other ones were online only.
Personally, I have both styles and use both styles as storm troopers (mainly because I have no choice, I don't have enough of each type to make 2 full squads). I can see people using kasrkins as vets only if they are carapace wearing vets.
I know that in the 3rd edition IG codex, in a small side bar, GW said that they won't make offical vet models since they want us to have the fun of converting.

That and I can't really see the point of them making specific veteran models - all they really need are weapon options and then the player to decide whether they should have more equipment/individual equipment/less equipment compared to normal guard... ergo, conversions are generally a better option.

I agree. I throw on the heavy weapon squad backpacks and use some catachan heads for mine. Since they raised the price of troopers why don't they include a nice accessory sprue?
Ahaha, who am I kidding? it's GW!
Accessory Sprue - $20
