Shostak, you mean this set, right? www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440336a&prodId=prod40007aAwesome army, love the 'cherry bomb' detail on the valk. Hats off to Chung and Snyder!!!! Thank you, empirespy and Yeti. I had a lot of fun painting the Vendetta, and my Vulture kit just arrived today, so I will probably be diving in to assembling it soon. It's going to be a labor of love, because I will be dedicating the names of the Vulture's crew to aviators I've known who have passed away (my friend's father who was US Air Force in Vietnam who suddenly passed away from a heart attack in 2002, and a member of my original 40K gaming group who became a US Naval Aviator and was killed in a flight deck landing accident in 1998). I hope I can do them justice by making the kit look good...

It will be brilliant Trooper, have faith. Agreed. It is starting inspired and that is all you need. So is the Vulture kit the add-on for the plastic kit? Both my Vendetta and Vulture kits are original Forge World kits that I still haven't built and I hvae to make custom flying bases for them... which is a pain.

The new Vulture kit is a hybrid resin/plastic kit. It uses the Valkyrie wings, landing claws, tail booms, and pilot/canopy pieces (and rocket pods if you equip it with them), but the rest (fuselage, engines, and ailerons/stabilizers) is resin. I looked through the kit this morning when it arrived, and it is a pretty hefty piece of resin--fortunately it comes with a routed out bit that accepts the new Valkyrie flight stand.
But yeah, I'm going to name the Vulture "Azrael" after the AC-130 that my friend's dad served on, prior to him being switched over to B-52s towards the end of the war. There's actually a decal on the FW Valkyrie/Vendetta of a winged skeleton holding an hourglass which is quite similar to the art that decorated the AC-130, Azrael, which was a Grim Reaper with a mini-gun, and I'm going to put it on the Vulture. I'm going to be equipping my Vulture with TL Punisher cannons, to mimic the loadout of the AC-130.

It would be really cool if you applied the decal, then free handed a minigun over the hourglass or something similar...

I think that was the set I meant, and I love the Valkyrie. I love the nose are more than anything really, but I always think it brings out the best in those sorts of kits. I guess I just have a soft spot for the old pinup style noseart really, but pilots always seemed so flashy in the movies that just flat out camo doesn't seem to work...

It would be really cool if you applied the decal, then free handed a minigun over the hourglass or something similar... Hmmm... I could try it, but I'm afraid that I would screw up the decal if I did. Really cool idea though, Walrus! I'd like to try and do some more nose art on my upcoming Valkyries, but I'm not sure if there's enough room on the fuselage for me to attempt to try it. I've seen others do it well here on the IGMB, but I'm not convinced that I could pull it off... Lovely matt finish on the detta! Thanks! I used Krylon matte finish to do the final sealing. Krylon crystal clear gloss was used to provide a surface for the decals to go down on, then I hit them with another coat of the gloss to seal the decals, and then matte finish over the whole lot.

Because the Imperial Navy puts that many credits into awesome paint jobs it can put in a few more to make sure it doesn't get scratched!

Yeah, when I was painting the model I was actually having problems with "rub" on certain points of it, and had to do constant touch ups, so I did an extra good job of varnishing it to hopefully prevent any future problems.

Rub? How so?

Areas around corners on the model would have the paint rub off when I was handling the model. Particularly the metallic bits under the leading edge of the wing root.

I'm hoping to be able to get more white primer tomorrow and get the TL Punisher cannon configuration primed. Parts to make an alternate loadout with quad multiple rocket pods are on their way, according to a message that I got from eBay today.

Punisher cannons on a Vulture is simply genius. It's rapidly becoming a basis for where to start my airborne Guard...

Yeah, the TL Punishers look really cool, and well... They're twin-linked. I think the quad rocket pod loadout is going to look really awesome as well...

Oh, the Vulture is the one thing I've always wanted to buy from Forge World, but could just never bring myself to buy... why is it so expensive...

FFE: You should totally get one. The kit is awesome. One of the easiest to assemble FW kits I've ever gotten. Walrus: I believe it is BS 3. Hence why TL on the Punishers is pretty nifty.
