Hi, all. Here's my Colonel Straken, and some Stormtroopers that I recently finished painting for my Jungle Fighters. The stormies are from the 666th Catachan Stormtrooper Regiment, a.k.a. "The Devil's Rejects" (a "toy soldier" dig to imply that they aren't good enough to join Catachan Devils squads). Hope that you enjoy!

I really like the flesh on straken.
Stormies look great. I am going to go for the same look for my catachan army stormtroopers.

Thanks, everybody! I'm glad that you enjoy my painting. Straken was a joy to paint, and I'm really pleased with how he turned out. ;D igdude: for the Hellguns I used sniper rifles from the Catachan command squad sprue. I carefully cut off the flash suppressor, cut down the thin part of the rifle barrel, and re-attached the flash suppressor. The hardest part of the conversion process for the Stormies was making the shoulder pads for the carapace armor. I used Cadian arms, cutting off the sleeves, and then shaping the shoulder pads to fit on the Catachan arms with a round file and some X-acto knife work. Major finger cramping was involved, but the results were worth it. The heads and backpacks are from the Forgeworld Cadian upgrade set. I've got to finish painting the rest of the squad, along with extra special weapon troopers so I can customize the role of the squad...

By the look of the shoulder pads, I had thought you had taken the ones from the valkyrie and baneblade that come without being attached to the arms already. Very handy work indeed. They look really well blended witht eh rest of the arm.

They look really well blended witht eh rest of the arm. Thanks, Ignatius! Yeah, I realised after doing all of the pad conversion work that I had some of the Baneblade and Valkyrie crew shoulder pads lying around, but they had been packed away when I moved. I discovered them while doing some unpacking the other day and said "d'oh!" However, I didn't have enough pads from those kits to completely outfit the full squad of Stormtroopers that I had built (full squad of ten plus three extra special weapon troopers for variety) so I would have had to do the Cadian pad conversion anyway...

Did you not think of cutting off the arm from the pad and replacing the shoulder of the catachan arm? Could be a lot quicker than hollowing it out! A couple of pins and the jobs a good 'un!
Great work with the conversions though, and an awesome job on the painting! Huzzah!

I had considered doing that, but I decided that I didn't want there to be any sort of sleeve remaining, and that I wanted the arms to be pure Catachan beef... Shaping the pads to fit the Catachan arms did entail more work, but I'm very pleased with the results.

I really love those Stormtroopers, they are perfect for a Catachan army.
Straken looks a bit wired on caffeine, but also very well painted.

Yeah, Straken is a bad bad man and I wanted him to look a bit psycho. ;D Actually, most of my models with visible eyes look like they're hopped up on Frenzon or some other combat drug cocktail due to my old school method of painting eyes. If you want to see some really psychotic looking troopers, check out my Penal Legion squad in the general IG anything board...

Thank you, Makarova and t [n_n]! ;D
More stormies are in progress. I had to slow down on my painting because my paint brush holding hand went numb and then started hurting after I experienced a painting frenzy after close to a year of inactivity (caused by dealing with the death of a family member) and cranked out a Deathstrike launcher, an Executioner, Straken, a Priest and the Penal Legion troopers pictured elsewhere, and the 5 stormies pictured above in just under two weeks... My hand is starting to feel better, and I hope to get the remainder of the unit finished, along with some extra special weapon troopers so I can diversify the role of the squad.

Thanks, marbo! Yeah, my mom passed away last year after a two year decline in her health following her suffering a traumatic brain injury in an accident. Losing her really sucked, but watching her fade away after the injury into a ghost of the person she had been before the accident was even worse in some ways. Anyway, keep an eye on this spot, I've got some more stuff that I'm hoping to have pictures of in the next few days. I converted a Catachan regimental standard bearer, and just did some more work to finish up a Catachan Master of Ordnance that I had put together last year before my mom died. I gloss coated them today, and am planning to matte varnish them tomorrow, so hopefully pics will be on the way soon!

Thanks, marbo and mjpayne! I'm sorry to hear about your loss too, mjpayne. Edit: Here is a very early WIP shot of counts as Kell and Creed that I'm working on for my Jungle Fighters. I'm waiting for a Catachan officer with powerfist to arrive to nick for bits for counts as Kell. Should be here any day now... *Dr. Evil voice, pinkie finger to corner of mouth* "I shall call them Sergeant Major Swanson and Bear F. Criid." I've also got a converted Master of Ordnance and Catachan regimental standard bearer finished, however the pictures didn't turn out well. I'll try to get some better ones this week.
