The Imperium is so backwards they store liquor in metal barrels? Blasphemy! That is a really great job you did on the objective. I like it, especially the colors on the Sentinel. Did you use washes to bring out the detail? Thanks, Dedrier! Yeah, the Sentinel was surprisingly straightforward. I coated it with Blazing Orange, and then did a heavy Devlan Mud wash. The wash settled perfectly, and I wound up not having to do any highlighting on the Sentinel at all. The same was done with the dirty metal of the exhaust shrouds, counterweight, roll cage, and storage box, using Boltgun metal as a base. The powerlifter claws were simply the old yellow ink over white, and then Devlan Mud like the rest of the model, except I applied the wash twice. The hydraulic pistons were Boltgun Metal washed with chestnut ink, and then highlighted with Chainmail, leaving a collar of ink at the base of the pistons to represent lubricant.  Heh. Fine grain alcohol stored in metal drums... Alcohol heresy!  That is an enormous base... Yeah requiem, it's a Valkyrie base. ;D |

Oh yeah, I just noticed that the edge of the base has some rub along the back, and some over-spill from the drybrushing along one of the sides. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll be sure to retouch it before I varnish the piece.  I'm glad that you like the hydraulics. I forget where I learned how to do that effect, but it works great; I may have gotten the tip from an old 'Eavy Metal article from back when the Sentinel kit was originally released--ten years ago, IIRC.  I encourage everyone to borrow my objective ideas and have a go at making your own if you want. For those who do, I want to see pictures! ;D |

Thanks, Happyorange! ;D Yes, I had always wanted a powerlifter as well, and this objective marker gave me the perfect excuse to finally get one. I figured that Departmento Munitorum lifting gear should be brightly colored, and substantially beaten up-looking, and the paint scheme just suggested itself to me. Feel free to take inspiration from my objective, and get a powerlifter for yourself and have fun with it... |

I love that fleet officer body. Very excellent use of the gunner body. Your conversions are fantastic. Even though it's just cadian flak armour, since Catachans usually have no armour, it definitely works in this army as a good carapace armour substitute. The storm troopers look fantastic, and I had the same idea for converting the sniper rifles into hellguns. You can acquire more sniper rifles in the SM scout snipers box if necessary. Excited to see more, and the objectives are great fun |

I'm hoping to start painting again in the near future--been taking a break due to being sick and aggravating an old injury. I need to knock out the rest of my stormies, and get Criid and Swanson's command squad painted. Then on to tanks and Valkyries!

I've had too much stuff going on with regards to dealing with my mom's estate to have time for painting recently... Hopefully I'll get back into it soon! I'd like to see a battle report where your men defend the booze to their last breath against a rampaging xenos horde... the Tyranids might want your biomass, but as long as you have beer you'll hold the line! Reds and I teamed up about two weeks ago in a massive IG vs. IG infantry only battle, 3000 points per side, and the alcohol dump was right in the middle of the table. Unfortunately the other side captured and held it, but we captured and held the poon tang objective, and contested the porn dump objective for a draw. |

In other news, although I haven't been able to do any painting recently, I have been working on some conversions. Over in the tank forum I have pics of a converted Punisher that I'm working on (thread titled Argh... (Craving to build...)), and last night, inspired by Sgt. Walters, I converted an Eradicator turret using a Hellhammer cannon that I had leftover from a Baneblade kit, and an old style Leman Russ turret. I turned out looking pretty sweet, if I do say so myself. |
