Thanks to you I am now going to start a Tyranid army.....these are actually looking awesome! *Arson Beetle voice, rubs appendages together* "Good. Good." Turns out that magnetizing the Crone/Harpy will be too fiddly (and I'm running out of magnets) so I'm just going to eBay the common parts that both builds use (i.e. body, wings), and then stick the leftover unused bits from whatever variant I don't build from the kit I have onto the eBay parts, et voila I shall have both. The Exocrine/Haruspex kit magnetizes really well, though. The only problem I encountered was not magnetizing the Haruspex's big grabby claws sufficiently enough for the magnets I put inside the body to hold them up, which I fixed with more magnets, although putting some positioning pins in place may still be required.

Got my Harpy and first box of Gargoyles put together. The Harpy is a joy to build. The Heavy Venom Cannons are just press-fit in place, and can be swapped out for the Stranglethorn Cannons. I've got another box of Gargoyles to build, and will be acquiring a third to make a maximum-sized brood.

Now I can't wait for my Hierodule and Carnifex Brood to arrive! They are looking great and you're going at an incredible pace. What colours will you go for?

I was thinking about resurrecting the scheme that I used on my 2nd edition metal Warriors and 'Gants of red bodies with bone chitin plates. Initially I had tried the old Genestealer color of blue bodies, and purple heads and joints on my Hive Tyrant years ago, but it didn't turn out looking nearly as good as I thought it would. However, I dug out all of my old 'Nid dexes last night, and must admit that I'm rather taken with the scheme of the 'Nids on it's cover (and the example in the 'Eavy Metal section) of black bodies with pink-ish/purple heads (with read around the jaws and then back along the eyeline and the spiracles on their heads) with faded red markings on their chests and claws...

Here's my Flyrant being assembled. Right now rocking the Heavy Venom Cannon, but thanks to magnets he'll be able to be equipped with all of the other weapon options... And here's his pal, the Trygon Prime: I actually got the Trygon back in early 2010, right after I had moved, and he was the first model I ever built in my new house. He's been sitting on a table upstairs for the past 4 years. His head is pinned in place, and I'm going to source bits so I can use leftover parts from the kit to build a regular Trygon head.

That's a scary brood of monsters, Trooper.
I also like the classic space hulk 1st edition colour schemes. If they don't work for you maybe try using a lighter shade of purple/ blue to see if that meshes. If not you can paint nids any scheme. Have you seen the latest yellow/ green scheme featured in White Dwarf?

Yeah, I did see the yellow/green, but I'd like to do something darker. I've just about convinced myself that the glossy black bodies with faded red markings, and pallid heads with red around the jaws, eyes, and spiracles is the way to go. I think it'll look great, and it would also allow me to get the models painted quickly, as I can "cheat" and get black primer to do a ton of the work for me and then just bang out the detail work. I also finished magnetizing just about all of the Flyrant's weapons options this afternoon. He can now rock the Heavy Venom Cannon, Strnaglethorn Cannon, TL Devourers, TL Deathspitters, Lashwip + Bonesword, and Scything Talons. The only option I haven't made is dual Boneswords, as there doesn't seem to be much advantage to them, and doing so would require using the Swarmlord's Bone Saber bits, and I'm retaining them because I may stick them onto my old metal Walkrant to upgrade him to Swarmy at some point.

That sounds like Phil Kellys scheme a bit, except he uses yellow. Quick paint schemes are for the best..
The old metal tyrant as in the first tyranid release? I remember those from the 90s.. That's a golden oldie.

The old metal tyrant as in the first tyranid release? I remember those from the 90s.. That's a golden oldie. I've got two of those 2nd edition Tyrants, and they were probably the greatest model GW had made by the mid-90s, but no I mean the metal Tyrant that was translated over into the current plastic kit--so the 3rd generation Tyrant. We will not speak of the 2nd generation Tyrant that was made for 3rd edition. <.< >.>

WIP Tyrannofex with all weapons, big magnets are inside the body, now I just need to magnetize the arms: WIP Old One Eye: WIP Carnifex brood: I built the partially primed one years ago, then just recently busted his head off so I could replace it with a bioplasma head to make him the old Screamer Killer type. The unprimed one is going to be a Dakkafex. Inner body is already magnetized, now I just need to magnetize weapon arms for him--probably going to run him with dual TL Devourers most of the time, but will be putting together other shooty weapons for him. Question is how to build the third Carnifex for the brood? Was thinking of doing the crushy claws and slashy talons (like Old One Eye) except he'd be getting an adrenal gland as well to fit in with his broodmates... Thoughts?

Luckily I totally missed the 2nd generation Tyrant then, being at University in those days. Hows the weather now? Can you spray paint yet? I can't It's been raining solid for 2 weeks or more...

We're experiencing another cold snap that supposed to last for a few weeks this time. Fortunately, though, I managed to get my basement's laundry/utility room cleaned out over the holidays to the point where there's enough bare floor (unfinished concrete) that I can prime indoors again without worry about potential over-spray trashing finished floor surfaces. I actually just finished up the edges of my Realm of Battle tiles--in all it only took 2 cans of black primer to do the entire 32 square foot set. Going to start priming 'Nids once I get a test mini done, and finish assembling everything I've got.

Dang... I thought I was set on the paint scheme for my 'Nids, and then I saw this on BoLS (via the Book o' Face): I think this looks awesome, and I may have to do it instead...

I reckon try it on a small gaunt first to see if you like it/ how easily it paints before committing. Very bloody face...

Thanks! I really like the skull pits (It's SPHESS CAMBODIA everybody!) and they painted up much faster than I was anticipating they would. I don't think they'll even require an Argax wash followed by highlighting. Actually, that holds true for the whole board; I painted up all 32 square feet today, and might have gotten it done even quicker if I hadn't been having to go outside every hour or so to clear snow from my front steps and sidewalk.

Looking good mate, if anyone don't like the skull pits just green stuff them into oozing liquid pits!

Thanks, Dougeye.
I'm just about done with the Citadel Woods and the wrecked Rhino terrain pieces. I went to town with the new Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust paints on the Rhino, and they work amazingly well. Hopefully I'll have photos tomorrow.
In other news, my work on the RoB tiles has come to a screeching halt, though. It appears that the big bag of static grass in the terrain finishing kit I bought is defective--the majority of the bag's contents are clumped up balls of fibers, instead of free-flowing fibers of static grass. I'm trying to figure out how to break them up; I think I'm going to pour them into a bowl and take a hand-powered mixer to them to see if that will break them up.
