Really like the use of the tank commander on foot Thanks fatuous! I kinda kept the impression of Captain Jacob Keyes from Halo in mind as I built him up...

Its an amazingly simple paint scheme, and I love it. The poly gives everything a "frosted" look, which is nice. Also, no one ever seems to paint a full Valhallan army, so I am even more impressed that you pulled it off.
I have done something similar for my Officer of the Fleet, using those legs and a Pask model.
Well done!

The colour scheme works really well as camouflage on that winter themed board - I know that sounds an odd comment given it is winter camo, but you so often find that camo schemes don't seem to work in practice.
Your army is looking really groovy and is a testiment to the time you've put into the project.

That group shot looks great Yeti! Your terrain is really, really sweet, and your minis blend into it very well. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Seeing an army all together always makes one proud, doesn’t it? Especially when the terrain fits so superb to the models. Well done! What will be next? -Magg

Thanks Trooper… I’m looking forward to a game with these guys soon and the sweet, sweet delicious tang of expectation that comes with painting up another 60 Valhallans. But then I think a Vendetta is a must-have in lists, right? I own a Vendetta kit and haven’t built it yet. What do you guys think? Chimeras and troops next or a Vendetta?

As much as I'd like to see the army bulked out with more troops and a Chimera, I have to agree that the Vendetta just promises to look too groovy to ignore...

Yeti, still love your painting May I offer you up one suggestion, though? I would not include a Valkyrie for the simple reason that it seems unlikely (at least to me) that an ice planet's army would have its own Valkyries. That said, if you do wish to include a Valkyrie, paint it differently from the rest of the army. I do not mean to be a fluffwhipper, but I would love it if you had fluff that fits along with the good paint job. Just my opinion, take it for what you want, at any rate.

The jury seems to be out on Imperial Navy aircraft adopting camo schemes to match the worlds that they are deployed on. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, which allows a player to do pretty much whatever they want when it comes to painting. Personally, I think a Valkyrie/Vendetta painted in Yeti's current ice world scheme would look awesome!

You know, Syphon hit on something I’ve been wrangling with for years. Your point is well received (as is yours, Trooper.) Thank you both. It is good to discuss these things. Fluff, for me, is huge. It’s what gives your army character and purpose both on the game table as well as on the modeling table. Narrative fills in the gaps between games too, allowing you to stay excited and focused on your army. The background fluff for the army is pretty complicated but basically they are on a permanently frozen Inquisition-held world. Most of the planet is rocky snowfields, soaring steppes and glacial mountains. Elevations are choked with snow and the equator sees very little freeze/thaw and some trees at most… everywhere else is locked in permafrost and nothing grows. At least, that’s how I designed the terrain I built as I imagined the world. Only the Inquisition knows why the world’s climate is what it is (Mwahahahahahahaa) I have a Forge World Lightning fighter for close air support with the army and it always worked out well (Forge World rules.) I painted it in the Allied Pacific Theater style and was trying to imply it was attached to fleets in orbit, not on the ground. For years my friends and I debated about their ability to fly in the relatively foul and unpredictable weather. Undoubtedly the pilots in theatre would be aces, they’d have to be able to drop a vet squad on a mountainside during a squall, or hunt enemy hard targets in poor visibility. But the terrain is much worse than bad skies. Armor is a great way to fight and an ok means of transport but Valks would be the king of moving moderate amounts of troops given what the terrain would be like. Hazardous flying conditions aside, redeploying unimpeded over difficult ground would be a huge edge in combat. I pictured chimeras in abundance too mostly because if air power is grounded for extended periods (think Battle of the Bulge) then armies have to make do. That and it gives an edge with warm, rested and supplied troops on patrols. But the terrain takes its toll there too. Wear is huge on this planet due to terrain, cold and combat. As if to illustrate my uncertainty in the role air power plays with the Valhallans I went back and forth for 3 years debating if I would add a Baneblade or superheavy flier like the Marauder (I love that thing) to my forces. I felt like a Baneblade would do well in the terrain but would be too mired by it to be as effective as a Marauder on combat air patrol. That fluff makes sense. Instead of the Marauder I got the Vulture and Valkyrie kits. I think it is common for the Imp Navy to adopt camo for campaigns since nap-of-the-earth evasive flying is common. I honestly don’t know if I’d do a camo scheme on the aircraft, go with whitewash or do more Imp Navy colors. I do think they’d support the Valhallans in campaign really well in the fluff and since the Inqusition is around, they’d insist on gunships of some sort. So to conclude, I agree with you Syphon, to a large extent. I also agree with Trooper as well. But I think the modeling possibilities are just too hard to resist. Picturing fast ropes and custom flying bases is too much to resist. I think I will probably go white wash with the same blue/green line detail as the tanks, to tie things together. I think the tank scheme would look cool though too. Thoughts?

After seeing your Lightning, I'd definitely say go with the Valkyrie/Vendetta. I think the rationale that airborne transport to get the troops around the planet when the terrain conditions would otherwise impede ground transport is perfect.

I think I would go with the Valkyrie or Vendetta, I think it looks so damn cool when you see two or three of those plop down on the table. Besides, it's nice to paint something other than one color scheme every once and a while. I also found the perfect pet for you! It's called a Yeti Crab!!

I think that needs to be on the Company Standard. Does anyone know where Yeti has been? I hope he's doing okay. I miss his posts and presence... Hey, nice to be missed! Sorry for going deep and silent. I have recently had serious issues with an L5/S1 injury along with neurological side-effects, so I’ve basically been focusing on being a dad, going to physical therapy and sleep. I literally woke up the other day and realized that I haven’t been on any forums for some time. Thanks for the concern Trooper! You’re a pal and I missed being around here too. Im kinda speechless right now, I love Valhalla Ice warriors and i love your paint work, over all Its very clean and tidy. good job sir i hope to see some more pictures of your work. Major Downer Thanks Major Downer! Here’s some recently-finished reinforcements, to fill out some already-completed squads. These guys will add-in to the company and allow for an all-flamethrower PCS as well as 3 squads equipped with autocannons. I have the already-started Medusa conversion on my table and the Vendetta is also being dryfitted and pinned as well. I’ll be priming another squad and tackling some Warmachine figs over the next month as well so stand by for some hopefully continuous updates. As always, I'll have some updates on my blog as well: sarcophagi.blogspot.com/Best, Yeti

I love the posistioning of that last pic, it really looks like they're holding a position against a large scale storm assault.

This is a really great army and amazingly done! I love the positioning of that last pic, it really looks like they're holding a position against a large scale storm assault. Thanks Shostak! In previous editions of the army it has definitely come down to a clutch of guys like that at the end of the game… Hey Yeti! Glad you're back. I hope that you're feeling better... Those autocannons look great--like the rest of your army. Thanks Trooper! The quality hasn't dropped at all Yeti ;D Thanks Walrus! I think I have the process down pat now and the results are consistent, which was the main goal. Now I have to start cranking out some Chimeras but the problem with that is some of the GW color I use is discontinued… I’ll either have to mix a match in a blue-purple that is really tricky or repaint previous armor with an updated color. Either way, a challenge but should be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing a standard bearer with the crab on it! /slightly kidding The new miniatures are going to be great, I'll be checking on your blog every once in a while. Thanks Dedrier! I want to build a large-scale yeti-crab as a wandering monster for the board. That thing is crazy. So when I laid out the army over the weekend I saw that I had a leftover 7 completed IG sorta hanging out, hence me working on a few more guardsmen (including a Heavy Bolter) to bring that group up to a squad. I realize that I’m violating my own rules about too many heavy weapons in too many squads since each squad will have either an AC or HB but there are worse problems to have I guess. That said, I looked at the box of assembled-ready-to-prime IG minis and noticed the mortar group I have assembled, ready to go. I’m tempted to do them up next… 12 mortars!
