Well, these three finished guys represent the final additions to a complete, max-squad first platoon. I'll get a pic of everybody up later. Up next, work on a very special squad of Valhallans that have won the "travelled farthest" award to be with my army, thanks to Major Downer, who shipped a squad of his own Valhallans to me, unsolicited, out of his own generosity all the way from the U.K. to me, in the U.S. Thanks Major!

The downed pilot doesn't really look downed... Maybe you could use him as a roving objective?

The downed pilot doesn't really look downed... Maybe you could use him as a roving objective? I just needed a counter to put on the board for objectives. Call him a bailed-out Leman Russ crewman (that's what he is actually.) Hmm... I could add some more soot to his face and some scorch to his clothes...

Happy Memorial Day Holiday to those celebrating. Just a fast update on the efforts this long weekend. The 2nd Leman Russ is an update/partial repaint with a brand new battle cannon turret added on. I am working on a Pask model for the cupola too. Stowage and searchlight will be primed tomorrow for this tank. I built a Master of Ordnance out of an original plastic stormtrooper, Pig Iron gasmask/combat helmet head, conning tower from a BFG Chaos cruiser mated to a vox pack from the Cadian set, throttle control display hand from the sentinel pilot to act as a sort of auspex/ranging display and foregrip from metal autopistol as the top of his trigger device in his right hand. All-in-all a fast build and I think he conveys the look a preoccupied officer calling in a danger close fire mission would have. At very least, he was free to build if nothing else. The Ministorum Priest is the original metal model with plasma rifle and arm cut off, filed and then a plastic tank commander arm glued on, with plastic pistol added. Catachan combat knife and canteen hide the chopped up waistline. I think I'm calling him Mad Eye Moody.

Awesome looking Russ, and I love your converted MoO! He really looks the part. Great use of the plastic Stormie, Sentinel pilot bits, BFG bits, and the Pig Iron head. The Priest model is also on of my favorites of all time. You should totally make the bones in the reliquary have a glowing effect. I copied such an effect from a friend of mine, who copied it from a guy he was working with at our local GW many years ago. I'd be honored if you were to be the fourth generation of copying the effect. Bascially he painted the skeleton blue, then highlighted it with blue mixed with increasing amounts of white, and painted the edges of the reliquary to look like it was reflecting the glow... Really cool looking stuff. I'll have to see if I can dig out my model and take a pic of it.

@ everybody: Thanks! @trooper: That's a pretty dang good idea, thanks. I may just have to use that. So here's just a fast update in the MoO. I put base coats down and then some layers here and there to spice up some flat surfaces. I suspected that a brown gas mask with red lenses probably looks better with the cold green/blue paintscheme than my Hardened vets with their grey gasmask/green lenses so I tried the different scheme on the MoO. I like it better. I'll repaint the Vet masks soon in the same way. I just have to add some details here and there, clean up a few things, finish his base with snow after Dull Cote and he should be nailing my own front line with a barrage in no time!

Hey Yeti! I managed to dig out my Missionary minis, took some photos of them, and posted them in my thread in Picture Post so you can see what the glowing bones in the reliquary effect looks like.

Seconded. Although I have to say, some "older" models are actually more detailed than you think...
When do we get to see the Priest Yeti? There's always been something inarguably awesome about that priest... mainly due to his bionic claw...

Wow... I have to say, I never was a big fan of the Valhallans, but this has changed my mind a good bit. I think it's just a good paint scheme and someone far more talented than me. I'm also very jealous of the commissar, my first attempt at black leather was a dismal failure...

I always liked the Steel Legion better, but that's probably because The Valhallans just never looked like they would fit in anywhere else than an ice planet to me... These guys just look a lot better than any of the others I've seen, I admit I've rethought my position.

To Reds et al,
I am totally honored! Thank you all for your support! It means a lot to me, more than you know.
Today I am the proud owner of dual epidural injections to the L5 area of my spine, so no painting for another day or so. Soon as I get flexion back, I'll be working on the priest.
Yes, Trooper, I'll try and make the bones "glowey" I think that is a fantastic idea! I'll try to base the light source out of Ice Blue as a start unless others have better ideas.
