Really tough! In the end though, I have to remember that it's a painting comp. There are a few that should definitely be entered in a converting comp as well.

Isn't it a painting AND conversion comp? I mean, 3ff3ct did make a point about that they had to be converted... Why split the two up? In my opinion they go together.

Next one up should be just converting competition. Judging just made by the quality of the conversions. 'Cause on The Waaagh! I've seen some people that make like really super awesome conversions, when they paint them badly, it ruins the whole miniature.  But now I gotta love that good ol' Cadian Liutenant! For some reason he reminds me of Warzone!  |

I think having a separate converting competition would be cool, although I see no reason why this competition can't be about converting too. Golden daemon frequently features amazing conversions, yet sometimes its a basic mini painted really well that wins it. I've voted, I took a couple of days to mull it over, a very hard decision! I think it'll be close! As for the next competition, well, let's say I've got it all planned out, and just about everyone should be happy and able to enter |

Really enjoyed doing the entry for this one, looking forward to this next competition you have planned, though if it's what i think i might be i'll have to go shopping, as i've not got a huge paint selection outside of greys, blues and skin tones.
anoyingly gonna be away for this weekend too, so unless i can find time i'll have to wait till sunday to see the result of this.

I don't think we conversion should count extra JUST because it is a good conversion. I don't, however, think it should be disregarded on the grounds that 'this is a painting competition'.
If I see two well painted minis and one of them is converted in a way that adds to the whole of the mini, I will vote for the converted one - not BECAUSE it has been converted, but because it works for the overall mini.
Creativity is an important factor.

Same way Golden Demon entries are judged,
primarily on painting skill and breadth of techniques used, then on modelling and artistic talent.
Deffinately both have to be considered, given the veteran nature of this comp.
my 2c,
Shame not every entry shows a WIP as well as final paint, or the same resolution / size of images, as some of the conversion detail can be overlooked just viewing a finished picture, and some detail is lost if the image is too small. But there is a limit to the number of pictures 3ff3ct could post without it taking a week to load this page, and not everyone has access to high rez digital cameras.

I think the last point is the biggest, and by adding extra submission standards (IE rules) less people would be able to enter. It's a bit of a shame some of the excellent painting has been let down by photo quality, although i'm sure that models won't be considered inferior due to this (that'd just be a bit silly!)
@boba:that's the way I saw it when i voted. Excellent conversions don't mean anything without a good paintjob, and between two great looking minis I went for the conversion work I thought added to the overall effect of the submission.

Awsome, Bastonne did me proud. Thanks for the votes, up against some strong competition here. Is a real shame entry A didn't have more detailed pictures, looks like a lot of converting effort went into it. Here's a WIP for you to have a look at to see most of the green, this was prior to me doing his hair and covering the incorrect scar.  Really enjoyed my first go at a competition entry, will deffo be having a bash again. TIM |

I didn't include the WIP in the thread as I thought it was clear that a lot of green stuff effort had gone into the mini. It was nice of you to share them with the rest of the board though!
