It bugs me that you have to buy a stupid metal model to get a plasma gun for the Guard. So, I got an idea whilst sitting on the throne- GREEN STUFF! Things needed- Green Stuff Modeling Tools Guard Lasgun Sprue (any will do) 1. Using a ball of green stuff, make the general shape of a Plasma gun tip, mostly covering the small barrel at the end of the lasgun. Leave the tip just barely jutting out. 2. Using another ball of green stuff, cover the bar that runs between the two raised portions on the top of the gun. 3. Using your modeling tools, carve small grooves into the top portion and small indentations in the tip. 4. Paint accordingly. Here's a small diagram I made showing off the conversion process.

It's a good idea in theory but is it worth the hastle? How long did it take you to do?

I haven't done it yet. But it looks like just a simple little conversion. You're not cutting or removing anything. You're just adding green stuff.
And besides, I hate metal models, anyway.

Hmm, it might look a little weird, but its a helluva lot better than buying those stupid metal men.

Just a suggestion but... Talk to the people at your GW/Local Shop/etc. Most players have extras and if you offer them bits/money they will give them up pretty easily. Especially marine players. They get enough plasma/melters for like 3 armies. I asked at my local store and got like 10 of each.

There is an other simple conversion: take a boltgun take a plasma pistol Cut the bolgun clip and muzzle Cut the pistol muzzle Glue them and you have a plasmagun...

I once actually GSed and glued the end of a plasma weapon that came with the demolisher to the base of a lasgun. Hilarity ensued.

I have a simpler version: You take the plastic catachan/space marine flamer, cut of bits of it, take a plasmapistol, cut of the handle, glue both parts together and you get something like this;

I converted my 20 vanilla catachans into 2 hardened veteran squads and painted them "city-fight"- looking. So I have one 10man squad with 3 plasma guns and one squad with 3 grenade launchers och one man portable autocannon carried by one appearently very strong dude haha
Anyways, I think that is one very fast, easy and affordable way to make plasmaguns IF you can get hold of the different parts.
A bit of topic, this paintjob was made in lightspeed, paint the pants space wolf grey, the skin and bandana, then just wash the shi* out of them with black ink and flesh wash mixed with 2 drops of soap.

Cool, city fight must rule with plasmas! That paintjob is pretty sweet for something so fast.

Well this is very off topic but Im going to answer on demand Soap (one drop or two) is used in you water jar (you should have two). And whenever you use inks/washes dip your brush in the soapwater jar and thin out your inks/washes. That way they will spread more evenly and go for recesses instead of gathering in the wrong places like flat surfaces and so on. Using soap in water and mixing wih regular colors make them feel a little different but good when painting blending effects and so on like on the sword of my Eldar Avatar: It's hard to explain so you really have to try it for yourself, but again it should be used whenever you use inks/washes.
