Your painting is AWESOME!!! and yet you are so modest, you really are a God among painters.
P.s. I wish I could paint as well as you, and then I'd be like 'look at my awesome models!'

Gee guys, you make me blush. If you keep going like that my head will get so inflated I won't be able to go through my front door Removed: I don't really do commisions but if you got copious amounts of money to spare and get your models painted let me know Walrus: First of all, I painted the heads seperate from the bodies and glued them together after they were finished. I undercoated them with a light grey car primer and then airbrushed a very bright yellow (can't recall the name but it's the brighest they got) from Vallejo. I have it a brown enamel wash over a gloss varnish (to make sure it only went into the recesses). After that painted all the details and voila! Mind you I still have to give the helmet eye lenses a gloss varnish.

The gold looks like 'Bleached Bone' almost. The white wings on the shoulder pads are very, very pretty and the blending on the swords is very subtle. Fantastic paint job, by the way.

Beautiful, although I'm not a huge fan of the black marks on the wings. However, I love the metal effects and how you did the jewels!

Cheers guys! I guess I can take a break from watching Eurovision Trooper One-Nine-Seven-Four: I was pretty sure some people were not going to dig the chipping on the wings. I had a reason to do this though. Before that the wings on the backpacks were as bright as the ones on the shoulderpads. They were a bit too bright in fact so I thought that they drew the attention away from the details on the main part of the model. So I did this to tone that down. @david0802: Thanks mate. I think I paint way to slow to do this professionally

Those wings on the Sanguinary Guard are just brilliant antipope. As soon as I saw them I immediately thought of an old, chipped white statue. The "gold" armour also looks really good (couldn't agree more about the regular gold paints.

Let me do a brief explanation of how I painted the guys. Gold Parts I don't like "gold" paints very much so I was looking around for an alternative way to paint my Sanguinary Guard models. I stumbled along a blog that described what's about to follow but to be honest I have no recollection of where I found it. - Black undercoat
- Airbrush basecoat, 1:1 Chaos Black:Boltgun Metal
- Airbrush highlight, Mithril Silver
- Glaze whole model with Gryphon Sepia. Used 4 coats for uniform consistency.
- Washed Ogryn Flesh on the recesses. For some deeper ones I also used Devlan Mud
- Edge highlight with Mithril Silver
So, this is how I got this effect. However there was a problem: Either the basecoat or the undercoat wasn't very smooth so some parts of the models ended up looking grainy like this. The Gryphone Sepia glaze pooled into all the small recesses to this effect. I don't think it looks too terrible but it could have been avoided if the surface was smoother. Anyway, I know this now and going to be more careful on my next models. Shoulder Pads/Wings I didn't glue these on the models to begin with since I wanted to undercoat them with a light grey primer. After that I airbrushed white on the left shoulder pads + wings and red on right (I had preshaded these before). Then I gloss varnished them and gave a light grey/blue enamel pin wash on the left shoulder pads + wings and dark brown on the right ones. I then proceeded to paint the gold parts as I described above and then finish off the details (gems, purity seals etc.). Oh, and I didn't really do any real blending on the power weapons. It was all done with the airbrush ;D So these are the main points on painting the models. If anyone has any more questions please feel free to ask.

Fantastic work as usual antipope! I have always been a fan of your 'gold' effects, much less tacky than the rapper style bling which is used far too much in BA armies. The grainy effect adds depth to the model, the armour looks like it has been hand carved by some deity rather than hammered out in sheets. Very 'angelic'. Thats my stance anyway.

Glad you like it Paradill and that's how I will explain it to people. It was hand crafted by the gods!
@effect: There is no real blending on the swords I just cheated. I painted the swords with midnight blue and (after covering the rest of the model with cling film) then I airbushed enchanted blue and a bit of ice blue on the top. Very simple really. Just requires some control on the airbrush.

Not much to report his week. I wasn't much in the mood for any laborious painting so I decided to get some more bases out of the way. Click the image below for a larger version: I painted them pretty much this way: - Undercoated the bases with grey primer spray.
- Airbrushed them Scorched Brown. I use several thinned down layers so all the little nook and crannies that the small pebbles of the modelling sand make can be reached.
- Washing with Devlan Mud to create a bit of a shading.
- Drybrushed Codex Grey.
- Drybrushed Fortress Grey.
- Slightly drybrushed the larger rocks with Skull White.
- Painted the rim of the base with Catachan Green. Again many thinned down layers are used in order to get a smooth result.
- Airbrushed Satin Varnish (Vallejo).
Also, this time I used some of the resin bits from the basing kit by GW. It a nice and simple way to add a bit more detail: Tell me what you guys think. Cheers! ;D

When I first saw this pictures I said WOW and still when I look at them they are fascinating. Yesterday I've tried to paint gold the way you adviced and... thank you. You made my life easier! P.s. Please, can you write how you did the chipping on the wings?

Cheers guys! Bobulus: Glad that technique worked for you. As for the chipping it's very simple. Just cut a small piece from a sponge (anything will do really) and make sure it looks a bit irregular. Then dip it into some paint, wipe the excess paint off on some paper and gently dub it on the surface. Make sure you emphasize the outer edges a bit more. RejectionHurts: I really don't know how much more I could elaborate on the bases. Any part that is not clear enough? Let me know and I see if I could explain it in some more detail. Thanks!
