You have to make some crew figures to go with this! I'm sure with your skills you could come up with a delightful little diorama!

Thanks Gerner, although I'd prefer my brain to remain within my skull.............here's a straw *hands Gerner a bendy straw*
Good news! I have managed to order the Left and Right sides of a Leman Russ from 'Bits and Kits', so with them and the Leman Russ parts left over from the Bombard....I can have another tank!! ;D

Yay! Bits and kits is pretty good, although for future reference some ebay stores can be cheaper, even including shipping

Well I had a look on eBay and found that the track kits were more expensive than Bits and Kits, so that's some good news!

yep i totally agree about the gun sheild... leave it off... it looks way better without it... damm... i want some now... il pick up 3 next month
another nice mod ive seen is to replace the floor with mesh... and to add mesh to fill the guard rails aswell... you sould defo do that. also note that all the spg's in the pictures have stabilisers fitted to the back to stop it moving backwards with the recoil... that would be a cool mod too.

I didn't actually have that much fun building them I was frustrated with the lack of parts for the HW Squads, and I was infuriated with the bloody Basilisk! I shall tell you why in a bit, but first here's some pictures...... 'Firing on the target' 'Searching for a target' 'Setting up' 1 model on each base has been magnetized... So I can score the wounds on them. Next is the Basilisk... I haven't built one in YEARS and I have to say, I wasn't impressed. The main thing that annoyed me was the seperate gear, pin, and hand crank. Whilst it's a nifty little feature, they could have moulded the gear and the wheel as one piece, it would have been stronger and would fit better. I ended up snapping the rim of the crank wheel. Then I found out about the massive, stupid gap that is left after you slide the gun platform into place. I don't know what was going through their minds when they designed the kit. So I did a little bit of tinkering and blocked it up..... Also, my track sides arrived for the Leman Russ at half 9 this morning! ;D so I've got a lot of stuff to keep me going.....over the next week anyway! Cosmic

Regarding the gap between the deck and the hull... Shouldn't the bottom hull of the Basi consist of the lower decking part without the smaller floor section that holds the ramp on the Chimera, which is replaced by the bent hull part, which then has the beam supports for the gun deck attached to it? I haven't built a Basi in quite some time, but that's how I remember the parts going together...

yeah it looks very much like the whole gun platform section is too high

I'm afraid not gentlemen, I built her exactly as the instructions say. Although, the instructions may be wrong. The gun deck is the same height as the pictures on the box and the Basilisk in the photo further up the page. Having studied the pictures and instructions I have no idea, the gun deck slots perfectly into place with the pre-made grooves, so it's definitely in the right place and the ladder is at the perfect height so I don't know

Emergency Basilisk underside photo: It looks like you definitely included an extra piece in the lower hull. It might be that the instructions are wrong, because the piece with the hinges for the Chimera's ramp should not be there... Hmmm... Looks like I need to apply another layer of green to the underside of mine, or smear my baking soda mud mix on it.

Well then the instructions suck! Thanks Trooper No way do they explain that in the instructions, but anyway with the modifications I've made you don't see it anyway wait til tomorrow and you will see what I've been making with the Basilisk ;D

Yeah, I've not seen the new Basilisk instructions... Did they try and tree it together with Chimera instructions? If so, there might have been a decision point for making a Chimera, where that extra piece gets installed, that might not have been pointed out very well... Looking forward to seeing what you did with it!

Hey, Cosmic (or anyone who may know). How do you get the rust effect around your rivets and the drippage effect as well? Is it just Devlan Mud wash?

Post by Cosmic on Feb 5, 2012 9:16:47 GMT -5
It's an Ogryn Flesh wash and then just drag it down a little with the tip of the brush. You can use Gryphonne sepia too or any brown wash. Here's the converted Basilisk. I wanted it to look like an actual Gun Platform, not just a piece of Mobile Artillery so I changed the layout of the handrail and added a recoil stopper at the back...... 'WE NEED 2 MORE SHELLS!!'
