Ok, so I am sick of using dice and random things as objective markers. I want to make some that are Guard themed.
I am thinking that they will be collections of bits that I have, mounted on standard size bases. Or maybe slightly larger bases if needed. I was thinking about making five of them so that any games I go to will have enough markers. My current ideas are:
1. The wounded guardsman from the old cadian command set. He is just sitting in a drawer and I may as well get some use out of him.
2. The regimental standard, maybe stuck into a pile of rocks. I'm not sure about this, I may want to use the standard on a tank or something.
3. A collection of HWT ammo packs.
Those are the ideas I have, any more? I would love to have a pile of boxes or camo rolls but I have used all of them on tanks. I want the markers to be somewhat important, otherwise I would have gone for stuff like 3 lasguns propped up on eachother.
I am thinking about using some of my resin basing kit bases on the models to make them stand out. So far I have been saving them for commanders and the like, but I think these deserve some.

I have built a couple of pieces of terrain/equipment that I intend to use/could be used as objective markers. When I get home tonight I'll take some photos and post them. They are mostly made from bits and bobs left over from other projects/models.

Maybe a little radar/com station. I have a very simple one that is just the SM radar dish on a spare hatch.

Here are some of the photos I promised of the two objectives I put together. One is a comm link made from IG hvy weapon bits an antenna from somewhere and a "broadcaster" made of searchlight bits. Nice objectives dcrabb, I like the use of a mortar.
Objectives for GG is a good thought, it may get peoples minds working and spread some ideas around. It is one of the more ignored aspects of the hobby.

Trooper, did you use a forge world sentinel as an objective? That is crazy-impressive. I suppose it is the best way to get one into an normal game though, let us see anybody object to you using FW models in standard games when you use them like that.

I made it easy on myself and made three objectives consisting of Ammoboxes, jerrycans and other misc stuff.
In my opinion it was more important to get three objectives quick, and later I can always make better ones.
I'll see about taking pics of them.

Some of the stuff from the battlefield acessories kit works quite well:
-Ammo boxes; no more explanation needed really. -The funny cylindrical thing that isn't a barrel; paint the stuff inside to be 'green and glowy' and say that it's some sort of special plasma, alien technology etc -The barrels: Possibly as oil, but perhaps something more interesting. Following on from Trooper's alcohol ideas, perhaps the lord generals finest amasec, (yes, amasec in a barrel) or rather than mere promethium, thrice blessed mechanicus oil.
Apart from this I'm not so sure. Perhaps a generator or the old wounded commaner/soldier with imformation on the enemy. Personally I like the idea of the standard of a discraced regiment- your forces have been tasked by high command to recapture it and claim back some honour on their behalf. Also, perhaps a prisoner/traitor to execute.

Ewwwww... Y'all are perverts! *Logs ideas for future conversions*Trooper, did you use a forge world sentinel as an objective? That is crazy-impressive. I suppose it is the best way to get one into an normal game though, let us see anybody object to you using FW models in standard games when you use them like that. Yeah, Trickstick, that is a FW Sentinel powerlifter. I'd always wanted one, but never saw the practical use for one in a game, and then I got inspired to do the objective--at first it was just going to be the pallet of drums, thought about it, and said "Ah-ha!" The powerlifter was ordered shortly afterwards.

Since I'm going to delete the other thread about this, here's Gabe and MGK's posts. It's seems to be a sad fact of 40k gaming that those all important Objective Markers fail to be created. In their stead, we end up using dice, bits of paper, spare bases or models - but nothing created solely for the purpose of being an Objective Marker. I suppose it's due to the same kind of reasons that so few of us have "completed" peices of scenery - painting an army by far takes precedence over minor details such as objectives, especially as you can "make do" with the items I mentioned above. But this means we neglect something that can open up a whole new vista of possibilities and fluff/background hooks for our armies and games. Now, obviously GW and Forgeworld make some pretty groovy pieces of scenery, but (especially in the case of Forgeworld) these can cost quite a bit for something that won't expand your actual army. But these are not the only sources for Objective Markers - spare weaponry can be put to use as a weapons cache, spare models can be used as injured or fallen comrades that need rescuing for whatever reason, even random household items that might ordinarily get thrown away can start a fresh life as an objective of some form. So, to try to persuade you guys to embrace the random fun that can be had making Objectives, I thought I'd show a couple of the peices I've made and painted (even how they were made in some cases). Hopefully others will have some similar peices that they can also upload here! To get us started, here's the traditional familiar old favourite - a weapons cache: Simply a collection of the spare lasguns, grenades and any other small arms weapons you might have left over from building infantry squads - maybe even throw in some special weapons or a comm unit for variety. Secondly, another pretty familiar sight Objective wise, the fallen comrade: In this case, he's a Lieutenant from the Zion Rifles lost 4th platoon - but he's got a vox caster from the Bastion Interceptor gun kit. Maybe this caster has been modified to emit a homing beacon to 'Nids. Maybe it's simply recorded some classified information that needs recovering. Whatever the reason, it's already developing new plot hooks for in game I'll upload a couple more in the next few days, but if anyone else has some objectives they've made (or even just the GW/Forgeworld ones they've painted up), please upload them here! These are two of my "quick and dirty" objectives. Nothing special but they work better than a dice. Reds

Thanks for tidying my "duplicate thread" away Reds - wonder how I missed this one? ah well. On to more Objectives! Not exactly a Guard themed one per se, but it's something the Guard might get sent out to re-aquire by certain individuals *cough - naughty Inquisitors - cough* The Inquisitors car keys: And in to show just how small (and fiddly) they are:

Thats far too funny ;D I can imagine a whole series of narrative mini-games, especially if the inquisitor loses keys like my girlfriend does...
Inquisitor: Where's my damn keys!? Henchman: Have you tried down the back of the sofa?
