One theory that has been put forth about the typos in the document are that they are intentional, so that in the case of a leak, GW can use them to track the version released back to whomever had access to it and find out who may have spilled the beans.
Definitely take the document with salt, obviously it's not a finished product, but it still makes for interesting speculation. One interesting thing to note is that if you view the document properties, its date of creation was last May...

That's pretty clever, so it's probably not something GW would do. Reds

@reds: Well unless their money was at stake. Strangely though their constant solution to all problems is to raise prices. Like that won't prevent people from wanting to join their already expensive hobby.

Reds It's actually a technique that was developed by an intelligence agency (I don't remember for certain if it was the CIA or if it was someone else) to catch spies. I think the technique may have played a role in bringing down Aldritch Ames... Been a while since I've read about it, so my memory is fuzzy. But it is definitely a real method.

I feel like things like this have happened before, so called leaks turning up as rumors of something new start coming out...
I don't remember any of them being real, so I'm not holding my breath. I haven't even read it though...I just think I'd rather wait for word from GW as to what 6th edition is all about.

We'll know what the rules are when the books released. Until then we can merely speculate and hope for the best.

Yeah but what if said person either corrected it or changed all the mispellings with a bunch of other mispellings because they knew and wanted to throw GW off. Now that would be something .

Tracking them would be nearly impossible. Take a copy of it, put on flash drive, walk out of building, go to internet cafe three cities away, upload from there.

so no news on cover saves being 5+ now? They are in this document. That's the new generic cover save, with fortified buildings only getting a 4+. I guess Camo Cloaks are worth it more than ever now. Reds

One thing that I really like is the change in the close combat rules that allows pistols to be used with a shooting profile in close combat. One of the things that I hated the most about third edition when it was released was turning pistols into just another close combat weapon that didn't have the ability to pierce the armor of an opponent. Yes, it was done to "simplify" the game, but it was completely illogical that a weapon, such as a plasma pistol, would somehow magically lose its armor penetrating ability when being used in close combat.
As always, though, take with salt.

I thought what Trooper was suggesting was that they had different typos in the different documents that were issued to their people. So if the copy with your typos is the one that leaks then you have the red paint on your fingers.

Considering all the leaks we've seen from GW over the years, I doubt there corporate security is that great.

Having read this document fairly rapidly I was constantly contemplating one of the statements on the first page - 'this version is considerably faster than previous editions'...
The number of new special rules seems to create enormous complexity, while this could create more depth in smaller games I wouldn't be surprised if it just slowed games down.
Its a lot harder to playtest and discover the nuances of each rule vs each unit vs each unit when there are so many variables, so if this is how it'll be I'm sure there'll be a stack of FAQ's to follow!
... obviously a bucket of salt to be added, but there are some nice ideas in there.

It would make a lot of sense for them to leak an early document with all the maybe ideas on with all those variables. Best case scenario you guys all playtest it for them now rather than after the official release.

I think you're ascribing too much intelligence to GW, they are not some all-powerful-malevolent force. However much we like to perceive them as such.

You don't have to be too intelligent to try and manipulate stuff through leaking on purpose, only to do it well.
The other two don't need a lick of sense either really, just the right office politics or whatever we attention seaking we ascribe unwanted leaks too.
I don't know though, are you really just saying that this is all just massive speculation? If so I won't disagree.

things arent looking good for us foot sloggers. Actually, I think that things look rather good for foot. I think the point is that, although it seems more complex, a lot of the process has been simplified. The whole "squad leader thing" for one.

Shouldn't this all mean a unit running has probably a better chance of not getting shot in comparison to a guy hidding in a building taking cover? I wonder if they'll make it like fantasy in the fact that if somebody shoots while moving that they don't hit as well. It would make more sense but at least they also have less of a chance getting shot.
