Well I have left this thread for too long so it is time to get back to it and I'm asking you guys for help. In order to motivate myself to paint I want to run a narrative-ish campaign in order to build my regiment, starting with the platoon I have painted. At the end of each battle guardsmen will be killed, wounded and promoted. Those wounded and promoted will have to have new models painted etc to represent them, the old ones then become the replacements drafted in and so on.
Where do you fit in? If you live close enough (Rotherham, South Yorkshire) I want you to come and pit your army against mine. If not I ask you to help me name my soldiers in order to help give them a back story and build up the history of the regiment.

I may have made a terrible mistake. I've just acquired some FW Chaos Renegades and was planning on converting them in to veteran guardsmen. Has anyone done this before?

Theza now an agri-world, was originally populated to be a hive world. 3 hives had already been completed before the Administratum realised Theza’s true value was in the virility of its soil. Construction as halted and efforts redirected to setting up large scale farming facilities. The Imperium has left Theza to survive on its own following it initial settlement.
In the years that have followed the planetary government has changed its production from crops to timber, planting forests and reducing the crop fields. The hives became the home of the government as well as training grounds and barracks for the planetary defence force. The majority of its population (87 million) living in small villages and farms near the forests and crop fields.
Be it by luck or design the planet has been fortunate enough to escape the attention of other races as well as the Forces of Chaos. It is because of this that the planet has not been asked to raise an Imperial Guard regiment.
