So thanks to a trade with Cosmic I got my hands on the Imperial Sector. Unfortunately Mr Postman wasn't gentle with the box and some of the buildings Cosmic had put together were a little more damaged than they were meant to be, though nothing that couldn't be fixed. However I took the opportunity to take them apart completely and make my own buildings.
I have the first one built up and will be taking photos once the kids are in bed (an hour or so). If I build anymore the same size I'll only get 2 buildings out of the set the next one will be smaller. I'm also after some more of them if anyone has some to trade.

they're fun to build, aren't they?shame the boxes don't contain more wallsections! An important detail (which I planned to do but in the end forgot) is to have flooring inside, especially if putting the building on a base. the easiest way is to cut some plasticard in small squares that you glue in, then put the building on it and then add rubble where needed.

Cosmic also sent me some floor sections from plasticard. The buildings will be mounted straight to a gaming table. Building 2 is almost complete and I got a bit carried away, meaning it's the same size or maybe a bit bigger than building 1.

Looking good Foster, I've always wanted to pick up GW building sets, I just can't justify dropping that kind of cash on them for the time being. Guess I'm stuck using good old paper tubes, cardboard and plasticard.

Yeah 'fun' that's what it was building them. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on another set though. Going to be doing more table pieces to play on. The idea I had is that the end (last) piece from this set becomes the first piece from the next set. Next lot will be a city board.

The plan is to have a rolling game board for if I want to run a campaign.

My poor buildings! you've done a great job of putting them back together Foster. Are they staying grey? Or will they be another colour?

They are going to be primed grey, sprayed black, then be detailed in golds/silvers/etc. Thinking of doing some of that hairspray thing on them to add weathering but can't remember how to. Thoughts on that though please.

Hairspray technique is best done with an airbrush, it's stupidly hard without one. What you could do though is the salt masking. Undercoat them, then do a base colour, a rusty brown would be best. Once that's dry, spray on some hairspray and then sprinkle on some salt, larger crystals work better. Once the hairspray is dry. Spray on your black colour, a spray can would of course be best. Once that's dry, then with a soft brush, brush off the salt. It'll leave rusty spots everywhere

I don't have a rusty brown spray though. I suppose I could put my hand in my pocket and buy some though.

Use a big brush? A DIY paintbrush would work well, and not too expensive. Get yourself some cheapy acrylic from an art shop too. If you use GW paint it'll get very expensive very quickly painting all those buildings.....
