Nice it's a real change to see bright dkok freshens the board up. The orange on the tanks looks a little duller than on the standard guardsmen. @gearbox, guessing your from the Netherlands then

@ Krieger, I think it is just my shoddy photos, because in real life the tanks are very vibrant. I may end up chucking a black wash over them (which is what I did to the blimp). Tomorrow I’m enrolled in a 900 point team tournament with my friend’s new Spartan Blood Angel army. I’ve gotten my Colossus to an acceptable level as you can see below, but there is still a heap of tidying up and some details that need to be picked out (I simply ran out of time). I also had to find a very fast solution to my unpainted bases, so they all received a single Devlan Mud wash and a black rim. Both the Colossus and the bases will be getting further attention after this tournament. I also overdid the Jade Green when I washed the bronze areas: I actually think the bases suit my scheme quite well. Here are some samples: Now here are some shots of our armies arrayed on my friend’s painting board. As we are both aiming to build for a 1200 point tournament at the end of January, he has only done the basic washing of the armour and some flat colours. Also the display board will be painted to match the bases of the marines. Some of the conversions he has done are really cool. I will take some more photos tomorrow, and will post more up as his painting progresses. Our combined 900 point lists are as follows: Librarian w/ Jump Pack Assault Squad (10x), w/ Power Sword, 2x Meltagun and Inferno Pistol Assault Squad (10x), w/ Power Sword, 2x Meltagun Sanguinary Priest w/ Power Sword and Jump Pack Sanguinary Guard (5x) w/ 2x Inferno Pistol CCS w/ Lascannon and Master of Ordnance Veterans w/ Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Power Fist and Demolitions Veterans w/ 3x Plasmagun Veterans w/ 3x Plasmagun and Autocannon Vendetta w/ 3x Lascannon Colossus w/ Heavy Flamer Manticore w/ Heavy Flamer I’m super pleased how the army is looking so far. To reach my initial goal of 1200 points I only really need to fix the bases and colossus, as the only additions are Marbo, the Banewolf (which are already painted) and some unit upgrades. I also need to come up with a spiffy display board. It is a three game tournament tomorrow, so I’ll try to remember to take a heap of pictures and write up the game results. Also I’ve got another friend (Guard player) who I’m playing a three game escalation campaign with on Monday to introduce him to 6th Edition, so I’ll try to take some photos and write those games up as well.

Boobs McGee, Esquire ; correct Holland (or The Netherlands) the manticore is pure art if a may say so.. it's brilliant in it's simplicity, it looks like something the soldiers could have build out of the remains of a destroyed hab building or such.. special compliments for all the "chemical blue" details on the weapons and ammo.. it looks great and as for making them a bit darker, i wouldn't... they stand out now and that is a good thing in my book

Amazing overall collection and painting! I especially like the blimp and the manticore.. there is a couple things that looks odd: the 'hellhound' makes no sense, a guy on top swirving the heavy flamer?? you're better off having a turret or swivel mounted. The second is that outside of your commander, the bareheads looks out of proportion for the body, you could try the catachan command beret head and old 2nd ed stormtroopers heads.

what's wrong with the flamer? obvious it won't work underground so as soon as they emerge he pops up and lights em up! (it's clear it won't work irl but it looks damn cool :-))

(it's clear it won't work irl but it looks damn cool :-)) The guy looks like he's trying very hard not to fall off of a 80 story high rafter, and he's suppose to manually man the super heavy flamer without support.. no supporting rails to rest the flamer on or from falling off the top. no gunshield to protect him from snipers..

The best bit of this army.....by far.......is the little tripod range-finder! ;D it's epic in its own way.
Great army my friend.

I appreciate the feedback guys, thank you. @ macknight, the heads are a little large, but they look much more appropriate in real life. Regarding the Banewolf, I completely agree - it is rather unrealistic and silly and isn't meant to be a real-life weapon of war. It is a bit of a nod to many of the silly and contradictory things in the 41st Millennium, and along with the rest of the army pokes a bit of fun at many of the players who take it all way too seriously. Most importantly of all I think it is cool and it makes me smile ;D. Last weekend I played with my friend at ][con, an 1800 point doubles tournament. We managed two wins and a loss, and placed 12 of about 30 players, which we were rapt with. I've written up the first game in the link below (WITH PHOTOS), and will be writing up the second and third in the next few days. www.commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=aar&thread=16728&page=1Here is a teaser photo:

The group shot is spectacula, majorspeirs. The no gas-mask head-swaps work surprisingly well. Also the orange is well shaded, yet suitably bright.

My comments are hopefully come across as positive constructivism, they are coming from an art professor during final critiques; be satisfied, as long as your army looks right to you.

Of course they did macknight; I appreciate honest thoughts and opinions. I'm sorry if I came across over defensive, your points were valid which is why I wanted to address them and explain my thoughts and the reasons behind my decisions. Often there are things I overlook or execute poorly and am blind to through enthusiasm (or carelessness). Also everybody has different tastes and ideas, and it is great to hear other people's take on things. Please continue to speak candidly.

The third and last game from the team tournament has now been posted. www.commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=aar&thread=16728&page=1Overall our combined lists performed reasonably well. It became clear to me that when I expand my list to 1200 points for the tournament at the end of January I would need to add in some significant extra punch. Here is the approximate list I’m looking at: CCS w/ Lascannon, Camo and MoO Marbo Veterans w/ 2x Plasmagun, Autocannon and Forward Sentries Veterans w/ 2x Plasmagun, Heavy Bolter and Forward Sentries Veterans w/ Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Carapace and Demolitions Vendetta Manticore w/ Heavy Flamer Colossus w/ Heavy Flamer 2x Griffon w/ 2x Heavy Bolter Total: 1190I’m torn between taking two Griffons or two Hydras. There are flyers (and flying monstrous creatures or possibly skimmers) all over the place at the moment so the Hydras would be handy. Alternatively I could also seriously use the accurate anti-infantry and anti-light vehicle firepower of the Griffons. Decisions decisions... My next project is to finish the Colossus and paint the dual Griffon/Hydra models (they are interchangeable).

Why don't you take a Griffon to Sqd with your Colossus to provide accurate colossus fire, and a Hydra on it's own to provide some anti-air capabilities. You do have the Vendetta already so I think a Vend and a Hydra should do well in the anti-air department.

@ Purple Dice, I hadn't considered squadroning a Griffon with the Colossus. I normally don't like putting the Griffon with other things before it works so well on its own, however this may be a way around my current conundrum. Nearly two weeks ago I had a small three game campaign with a friend who also plays Imperial Guard. It was rather hard fought and a lot of fun, and I've taken the time to put together some game write ups (there are A LOT of pictures). www.commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aar&action=display&thread=16759&page=1My friend is also very capable with a pencil, and he put together the awesome drawing as a Christmas present. I think it's brilliant and wanted to post it here with the rest of my army. A couple of names also came out of the campaign which I should record here as well (each is pictured above in the Manticore): - My CCS commander is the arrogant Captain Freidrick von Draken - My Master of Ordnance is Aeron von Jungen, "The Moo" - My friend's Commissar Lord is Commissar Markus Ruhig, known as "The Legless Commissar" or "The Drunken Commissar"

It’s been a little while since my last update, but I haven’t been (completely) idle. I’ve almost finished painting the units I need for the 1200 point tournament I’m attending in a week and a half, and when I’m done I’ll take lots of photos of the finished units. The past few days I’ve taken a break from painting and have focussed on building the remaining infantry of the army. I am now at the stage where pretty much everything is built except for two additional vendetta/valkyries from the Krieg units. Much to my horror my planned 1500-2000 point army has resulted in about 3000 points of models. On top of this I am also planning on adding not one, but two allied contingents. The first are to be my old 13th Company Space Wolves, which I am currently stripping to repaint as I type. I’m only planning on two squads and a Lord at this stage (What?! No Divination Rune Priest!?!), so this will only be 20 MEQ models to paint. The second allied force is remaining secret until I acquire and build the models – I’m really excited about this one and can’t wait to put it together. Anyway, onto the models I’ve been building. First up some random characters - Commissar Lord with Power Fist, Harker and a Priest with a Shotgun: Next we have my second Engineer Veteran Squad with Flamers, Carapace and Demolitions. The third Engineer Veterans are armed with Meltaguns, Carapace and Demolitions, however I’ve build an additional three models so I can alternatively kit them out with 2x Plasmagun, Meltagun and Plasma Pistol (one of my old favourite combos): Here are my Storm Trooper Squad, which are basically leftovers from the Centaur tractors and bits from the Victoria Miniatures models I purchased for my Necromunda gang. They are a little rough, but they weren’t a planned unit and it is a bonus I was able to make them at all. The last unit to add are my 10 man rough riders: Yes, I know the guy on the left has a very short lance... “You did WHAT to the mounted Commissar?!?!” – Meet my Sergeant/Mogul Kamir: That is all for today, however there will be some more painted stuff in the coming week. I’m also planning on writing up my games from this 1200 point tournament, so there should be lots of pictures from that as well.

Looking good! Can't wait to see these guys all painted up. I always loved those death rider models, and even though you decapitated one of my favorites (you monster.), I think it looks pretty cool
