Is the artillery manticore trailer made of Lego?

@ lizardmen98, yes, there are some bricks in the main body and some various bitz in the lifting mechanism. Lego is one of the best building materials for scratch builds because they add so much strength.

Here are some photos of my Griffons. All I need to do now is the Colossus (and I’ve started a display board) then I’m ready to go for this tournament.

The mounted commissar's new head is cartoonish, is as big as the horse head.. sgt harker could use some muscle, the rest of the conversions looks great.

They are a bit big aren't they. I've got the same problem with the commander, moo and marbo, but I like the heads so am happy to live with it. They don't look bad when all the models are together, and besides traditional cadians have got massive heads anyway.

I finished off the Colossus, so now my forces are ready to go for this tournament. I also chucked together a base for the Banewolf and added some white sections to it to break up the dark grey and orange a bit (I think it looks 100% better):















I'm in the process of staining the edge of my display board, and it should be finished tomorrow morning. Once it's done I'll set up the complete 1200 points and take unit photos with the board.

Also a tiny little box of resin arrived in the mail containing some of my new secret allies. I'm itching to get to work on them so should hopefully have some models built and painted in the next week after the tournament.

After many hours of cutting ice cream sticks and drowning in PVA glue I've finished my display board. It is basically tonnes of ice cream sticks glued to a 50 year old kitchen cupboard door (which I stripped 4 layers of paint off) with some beading around the edges.









Aside from a few touch ups in the morning I'm done - then I'll set everything up and take some photos.

Hey all, just a quick update.

After two days of intense and exhausting days at Arcanacon I managed two wins, a draw and three losses. This meant I was able to crack the top half and place 52 out of 118, which was significantly higher than I was expecting. I had a great weekend with six fun games and six great opponents. On top of this I was stoked to win the awards for the best display base and the TO’s choice for the best army.

I got caught up in most of my games and neglected to take as many photos as I usually do, but over the next week I’ll be sure to post up my six game reports. I’ll leave you with a parting shot from my 5th game:

It is time to reveal part one of my secret allies project:








They are the gorgeous Kromlech trench coat ork models (Deff Korps of Krieg?). I plan on using them as Flash Gitz, but I have enough to build a 12 strong Ard Boyz shoota mob if required. These are the only ork models I'm including, as part two of the ally contingent will be counts as and completely different. These however will be secret for another week or two until I can get them painted.

This is the first time I've painted something in its constituent parts and assembled afterwards. I'm nearly finished, but need to touch up many of the joints and a few areas of glue frosting. This aside though, I'm absolutely stoked with how they are coming up. I should get some more photos up tomorrow once they are finished.

Would you recommend painting the components first rather than the finished model?

@ Ivory, I personally didn't really like it, but it really depends on whether your priority is posing or painting (and it also depends on the models as well). The reason I painted them in parts was because they were bigger models than what I'm used to, and since there was only 12 I wasn't too fussed about the posing. Normally I don't care if the back side of my weapons or a few hard to reach spots are just dark instead of painted. For guardsmen I'm usually more concerned about posing than anything else, so any future models will be fully assembled first.

I... I really don't know what to say. The you have is obviously amazing, I just can't stand the orange! It makes me crave Irn Bru. *G*

That said, it's an amazing paint job, I just don't like the colour orange. Great work, dude.

I’m absolutely rapt with how it is all turning out, as it is looking far beyond my initial expectations. Thank you all for your support and feedback, as it is valued and spurs me on to getting more done. I’m about halfway through and am broadly hoping to have everything done by the middle of the year. Since I start work in a week (as an engineer, surprise surprise) I’m not sure what kind of progress I’ll be able to make in the following months (I’ve been painting this army during a three month break at the end of uni). Regardless I look forward to another six months of avid hobbying!

I had a rather interesting development in the past day or two: it turns out my start date at work is being pushed back two months. As frustrating as this may be for all of my real-life plans, the upshot is that I now have an additional two months at my disposal to work on this army.

I also had a very nice experience today at a pushbike store (of all places). I walked in and asked the bloke if they sold the gear/sprocket-things separately, as I wanted some for a modelling project. It took him a minute to come to grips with what I was asking, but then asked if some old used ones would do. He rummaged behind the counter and produced a bundle of greasy old sprockets, refusing to accept any money for them. After 10 minutes scrubbing with some petrol they were as good as new (well for my purposes anyway).

Here they are along with a beautiful Puppets of War tank track unit/chassis. The more astute of you will probably deduce what I have planned:

To expand on my earlier allusion, I’m building a TBM. For those unfamiliar with the term this stands for “Tunnel Boring Machine”. It is going to be more of an aesthetic homage to the concept rather than a direct replica of the modern machines. It will be used as a Battlewagon with a Death Rolla. Anyway, here is a mock up of the basic structure of the machine. I’m in two minds whether to bother with a half cylindrical shield over the top or not.










As requested Hammerbolt, here are some comparison shots. This chassis is ideal for converting into any of the standard Guard tanks. For good measure I also threw in a photo with the giant snow plough the model comes with:
