I had an interesting battle today. It was the first game larger than 1500 points I’ve had in two years (the last being a ridiculous 11,000 point apocalypse bout). I’m planning on attending a 1850 point tournament in six weeks, so this was a trial run with a list. It is also the first time I’ve ever used allies (I had better things to use than the Deff Korps Orks, but they just look so cool I couldn’t resist) or fortifications. CCS w/ Lascannon, Camo, MoO Vets w/ Lasguns, 3x Plasma, Autocannon, Forward Sentries Vets w/ Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Carapace, Demolitions Vets w/ Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Carapace and Chimera (Multilaser, Heavy Flamer) Vets w/ Shotguns, 3x Meltagun, Carapace, Demolitions and Chimera (Multilaser, Heavy Flamer) Banewolf w/ Multilaser Vendetta w/ 3x Lascannon Colossus w/ Heavy Flamer 2x Hydra w/ Heavy Bolter Manticore w/ Heavy Flamer Aegis w/ Quad Gun Big Mek w/ Shooter, ‘Eavy Armour 12x Ork Boys w/ Shootas, ‘Ard Boys, and Nob w/ Powr Klaw, Boss Pole Total: 1850I don’t have my two of Chimera Vet units painted yet so I seconded stand-ins from my other Guard army. My friend played his Space Puppies with allied Blood Angels. The wolves included a Rune Priest, two large Grey Hunter units led by Cyclone totting Terminators, a large “combi-things” Wolf Guard unit in a Drop Pod, 5x Missile Long Fangs and an Aegis with Quad Gun. The BA had a Librarian, two 10 man Assault Squads, a Priest and a Storm Raven The game was interesting and pretty hard fought, with both of us having to contend with spudly shooting phases at various points which hampered out plans. I ended with a victory, however this was largely due to the mission being “The Scouring” and me being lucky enough to draw the the highest value objectives where I’d deployed. Here is a photo of my army commanders discussing the coming engagement: And here are the Krieg forces arrayed in their corner. I basically castled up, with the Hydras ranging forward with searchlights (damn night fighting) and the two chimeras and Banewolf off to the right of the photo ready to advance. The podding Wolf Guard blew up the Bane Wolf before I had a chance to move and the many missiles stalled the chimeras. The BA Librarian, Priest and full Assault squad rolled in and eventually munched the squads and tanks. The Orks came romping over and after a few volleys of fire assaulted the Blood Angels. The poor Mek was cut down in a challenge, but his boys killed the four marines. Despite losing the combat they held on (the Nob didn’t even need to restore order with his Boss Pole) and they clobbered the Librarian next turn. After the combat they scampered back to their lines as missiles rained down upon them and secured an objective with the last 4-5 boyz. Aside from the first outing of my awesome Deff Korps Orks, the two highlights of my game came on the other flank. On turn 2 my friend’s Storm Raven came on, but he was crafty enough to put it out of range of my Quad Gun (I’d been itching to intercept it). At the same time a combat squad came down and attempted to meltagun my Hydras, so I “Intercepted” these instead and much to my delight managed to kill the two closest models, which were conveniently the unit’s meltaguns. The second incident was on turn six. After my Engineer squad had disembarked from their poor stricken Blimp (with its one remaining hull point) the previous turn, they came under intense frag missile fire. The four remaining Engineers broke and fled eight inches. Much to my surprise in my turn they regrouped 3 inches, then with some encouragement from my Commander they then “Ran Ran Ran” 5 inches back to where they started and reclaimed their objective. All in all it was a good game, and I’m looking forward to a rematch with a slightly altered list (I’m thinking about trying to incorporate an Exterminator with Pask). I’ll leave you with a parting photo of my Deff Korps bludgeoning the Librarian with their Shootas:

Thanks Twitch. Unfortunately the Malcadors aren't legit FW, but they are still pretty good casts. I had a pair of games with a friend yesterday. He forgot his army case (he left it in his hall), so I pulled out my old Guard army and let him make some lists for himself. We played at 1500 points in preparation for an upcoming 1500 point tournament. This is the army I played: CCS, Lascannon, MoO, Camo Vets, 3x Plasmagun, Autocannon, Forward Sentries Vets, 3x Flamer, Demolitions Vets, 3x Flamer, Demolitions and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vets, 3x Meltagun, Demolitions and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vendetta, 3x Lascannon Exterminator, 3x Heavy Bolter, Pask Colossus, Heavy Flamer Manticore, Heavy Flamer Total 1500 My friend made two different lists based around potential Guard armies he has contemplated collecting down the track The first being a Krieg-style list to use DKoK models. Enemy Guard List 1: CCS, Lascannon, MoO Vets, 2x Plasma, Lascannon Vets, 2x Plasma, Lascannon Vets, 2x Plasma, Lascannon Vets, 3x Flamer, Demolitions Vets, 3x Flamer, Demolitions Vendetta, 3x Lascannon Vendetta, 3x Lascannon 2x Armoured Sentinel, 2x Plasmacannon Basilisk, Heavy Flamer Basilisk, Heavy Flamer Colossus, Heavy Flamer Total 1500 The short summary of the two games is that I dominated them both. This was entirely due to the fact that I had first turn in both games and my dice rolling was red hot from the offset. In the first game my Chimeras powered forward due to night fighting and illuminated a Basilisk and some infantry. The Manticore them proceeded to blow up one Basilisk and with the MoO knock two hull points off the other one. Despite my Chimeras getting wrecked by return fire next turn, my firepower proceeded to pick apart the opposing Guard. The infantry were whittled down, the remaining artillery destroyed, and I even managed to blow a Vendetta out of the sky with the Quad gun. It was just one of those games where everything did what it should and went to plan. My friend’s second army was a more heavy armour “real world” military force. Enemy Guard List 2: CCS, 4x Plasmagun and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vets, 3x Meltagun and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vets, 3x Meltagun and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vets, 2x Plasmagun, Autocannon and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vets, 2x Plasmagun, Autocannon and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vendetta, 3x Lascannon Executioner, Heavy Bolter Executioner, Heavy Bolter Vanquisher, Lascannon Total 1500 In the second game night fighting was in effect and I again managed to secure first turn. In a repeat of the previous game the Chimeras illuminated some tanks and the rest of my army blew them up. From my defensive position the game basically developed into a turkey shoot. I methodically chewed through his Chimeras and Battle Tanks, before killing off the poor infantry who bailed out. The enemy Vanquisher spent about four turns blasting away at the Colossus (who was in the open) before finally taking it down. Just to spite me the last thing my friend did before capitulating was freem my favourite model, the MoO, with his Vendettas Lascannons. My opponent gallantly fought on in both games, but the dice were simply in my favour. I’ve been on the receiving end of this with my Guard on plenty of occasions so I know that feeling of helplessness when things go against you. The Guard can be a very inertial army at times, once you start to build momentum (either things going well or things going bad), it can be hard to turn around. Full credit goes to my friend for taking it in his stride and remaining positive over the course of each game. Maybe he’ll remember to bring his army next time .

Nice work, majorspeirs.
The Hades breaching drills look brilliant; the wood on the bases looks like it's being stripped away.
Your Ork allies also really look the part - congrats on marrying two seperate armies and making a convincing looking allied contingent.

I have painted another 25 engineer models: Now that my six main infantry units are completed I also took the time to paint unit markings and went with coloured stripes on the right shoulder pads. I have red, green and blue squads, which are divided based on there being three “Engineer” squads and three “Trench Coat” squads. In the photo there is one member from each unit, so you can see the shoulder pads: Tomorrow morning I’m going to take some better photos of the units. I still have 15 infantry, 10 rough riders, 2 vehicles and 17 allied infantry models to paint and then the army is complete. In the mean time I crammed all my painted models onto the display board, which was no mean feat. I only just managed to squeeze them in – I’ll need to make an extension to fit in the additional models. I also wrote up a list of my currently painted models: CCS, Lascannon, MoO, Astropath, Camo Marbo Vets, Lasguns, 3x Plasmagun, Heavy Bolter, Forward Sentries Vets, Lasguns, 3x Plasmagun, Autocannon, Forward Sentries Vets, Shotugns, 3x Flamer, Demolitions, Carapace, Power Fist Vets, Shotgun, 3x Flamer, Demolitions, Carapace and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade Vets, Shotgun, 3x Meltagun, Demolitions, Carapace and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade Banewolf, Multimelta, Dozer Blade Vendetta, 3x TL Lascannon Exterminator, 3x Heavy Bolter, Pask 2x Hydra, 2x Heavy Bolter Manticore, Heavy Flamer Colossus, Heavy Flamer, Enclosed Crew Compartment Aegis Defence Line, Quad Gun Big Mek, Shoota, ‘Eavy Armour 12x ‘Ard Boys, Shootas and Nob, Power Klaw, Boss Pole Total: 2390 PointsMore pictures tomorrow.

Makes me wish I paid more attention to detail on my force, the colour coding system really works nicely on DKOK but not so much on Cadian...

Allies: The Deff Korps Fortifications: The Thin Orange Line Air Support: The Thunderbolt Objective Markers: Miscellaneous models for swapping out squad options: I’ve got a month before I start work, so next on my agenda are the remaining 15 infantry (storm troopers and characters) and 10 rough riders. After that it will be a much slower process of plinking away at the allies.
