ps.. am I right in thinking a blast is used at full strength vs armour regardless of where the centre hole ends up? sware i read some where that it is. Personally if i played I'd just keep the imperial guard. Allies are basicl just a second game, making it more of a four player game with only two players. the armies don't interact other then under the same banner. so with a large FoC I'd just expand the guard, and with squadrons improved so they dont blow up if crippled why bother getting squads of marines when you can get squads of vets supported with a russ? although can only fire snap shots if you move a vehicle right?

I read a BOLS article in which the author suggested that GW could use the new allies rules to release "mini army's" via WD. www.belloflostsouls.net/2012/06/on-allies-fluff-changes-and-keeping.html If they did that would be awesome! (GW should like this idea, do limited edition army sets and put all the rules in White Dwarf, people would buy their ridiculously over priced army set and then they'd have to buy the WD rules, money 'd be pouring in) Anyway....I might try to build me a squat army and have them as my allies (they would count as marines or something....) Edit-apparently squats are listed in the new rule book under abhumans... Edit 2- Squats on Page 405. It also seems to point to the fact that Squats can join the IG just like ogryns and ratlings... www.belloflostsouls.net/2012/07/40k-looks-whos-back.html

I see a Farseer with Doom and Guide ... is that right? (Reroll wounds and hits) Being a worthy addition for a gunline army, then a pathfinder squad for snipers and objective holding.
Edit: No wait they are Allies of convenience, can't use abilities on each other. Dammit why can't my Allies just be from the same codex, an extra heavy support slot, troops choices and the HQ would be great for mech armies or any in general.
Edit, edit: Hmm, do we have to use the Sisters of Battle White Dwarf Mini-Dex or can I use the Witch Hunter Codex?

dont think allies can use abilities, passive or choice on each other. Also the FoC is already large enough you wont be able to field it all. Squadrons have been improved by just dropping units out if immobilised so no worries there.

Guard with Ork mercenaries, of course.
Gives the Guard some nice assault or counter-assault support.

I've been pulling together a small force of random armies to represent mercenaries hired by a Rogue Trader, so I'm actually pretty happy I can use them like that in normal games now. My two supplemental forces are DE and Orks, although I'm more inclined to use the later as they're mostly allies of convenience with a lot of armies. That, and I can just use rhinos from my SM as "trukks" if push comes to shove. Playing my normal guard, though, I'd probably have an SM squad or an Inquisitor and retinue, just for fluff reasons.

Going by the fluff Blood Angels and Necrons should be battle brothers/. Maybe SoB get shafted for allies is purely because, by virtue of being all female, they can't actually be 'battle brothers' with anyone. Sisters are listed as battle brother with Guard.

I wonder if some Assault (Ironclad?) Dreadnoughts would be a good choice to fill up some elites choices using a Space Marine ally set. They remove the need to choose between over costed Ogryns, Niche Ratlings, and worse-than-vets Storm Troopers and replace them with a walking unit that ties up assault units but can still hit back. Only issue is getting them to their targets unscathed, I guess.

This is from someone who claims they have the book already who is answering questions over at faeit 212. You can take one allied detachment for every detatchment of your army. So if you take a second FOC in a 2000+ game then u can take a second ally one as well. Although not of a different race mind you. Only two races/codecies are ever allowed to be joined into a single force. Also, check out the video I posted on the general 40k thread. That should answer any more ally questions.

Because, if I were of a malevolent bent: Operation Rolling Thunder. With Grey Knight Terminators. Also, (for some unknown reason) you can't put the GKs in the valk. Or the IG in the storm guppies. You can't mix allies in with your armies transports. Also, allies counting as scoring units, casting psychic buffs on allies, etc. all varies based on the strength of the alliance. Desperate allies are, well, a desperate choice and it will almost certainly give you hell in a game. Again, take a looksies at the allies vid in the general 40k board.

I'm not sure if my guard force (s) will ever ally with anyone else... I have an infantry commander, airbourne vets officer and a tank ace who squabble enough as it is... I don't want to add another HQ to thier endless aurguements.
What I do like is the idea of adding some Nurgle to my Orks... whats big green and tough as old boots.. I think they'll get on well.
The above combo would give me a chance to add the small number of Nurgle models I've a;ways wamted in my collection. The Nurgle Prince is cool, and Nugle Marines with burst bellies and rotting limbs just rock too much to not end up on my shelves.
I like what the Nurgle element bring to the party too... accurate shooty lads in good armour with T5 and FNP.. aye, that'll do.
