As this is still up in the air until someone gets to read a book I guess the best place for this is here. The most sensical rumour I've read so far suggests that you get to take a HQ, a Troop, and then 1 FA, 1HS, or 1 Elite.
Now, as Imperial(/Traitor) Guard, who would your ideal allies be and what would you choose?
I would go with the unsurprising choice of Space Marines, if only because now, with the above assumed as true for the time being, we have a viable way of getting decent Elites choices. I personally have nothing against Storm Troopers or others, but compared to some Sternguard Veterans... mm mm mm.
So, on that note, a Command Squad, Scout Squad, and Sternguard Squad would be my choices. We have decent Fast Attack in Valks etc. and better low-cost Heavy choices IMO so...
What would you all like to see/use?

Being able to use a combined IG/SM force like in my fluff is the only thing that gives me hope for 6th.

An SM tac or termy squad would be nice for the Guard, gives us some sort of heavy(ier) infantry. But the Tau Battlesuits look pretty cool so that would be fun to see beside a horde of Guardsmen.

note this may change when 6th edition codexes come out or they release PDFs for updates to the current codex (i think they might change valks to fliers) but yeah I'd go with marines or might go for some orks for thier CC. AKA my method is to make them give up by the sheer number of rolls they have to take!

While I can see the advantages of such an alliance and would definately go for an Inquisitor Lord or a tactical / sternguard squad of Red Scorpions. I hope they don't over do it like Apocalypse.
Perhaps 0 - 1 troops or something like that. It would be cooler.

I'm going with:
-1 Captain -1 Tac Squad -1 Sternguard Squad -1 Stormraven
I'm thinking of some good air assault tactics right now.

Since we're assuming that any side can be allied with Imperial Guard, I'd have to go with Imperial Guard, if not for more HQ access.

I would probably use tau for fluff reasons or maybe some termies? Just for fun not really a serious player.

Think of it.... Geanstealer cultist are back. IG codex always worked for count as GSC. The low level Psychic's, the lasgun wielding half breads would be fine as Conscripts, Penal or platoons. The odd tank that was left in the area as the GS infection tool hold. The only thing missing was the fully bread stealer unit...
Now you have it, Stealer units with your guard!

Unfortunately, Tyranids aren't allowed to ally with anyone. It surprises me because not only are Genestealer Cults fluffy, but the same would be true for Inquisitors getting their grubby little hands on some Tyranid MCs, as well as Dark Eldar Beastmasters whipping a few into the fray.

Depending on if the Allies count against FOC slots or not I'll probably go with some Elite Space Marines (Death Watch Kill Team-ish) and/or maybe some Kroots (just because I have a box of 'em).
What rules I'll be using for the Marines I do not know but they will be my own chapter. Basically an excuse to be able to actually do the chapter I've done some fluff for. Since I would never want to do a Space Marine army then Allies would be pretty good.

I'll take a SoB canoness, just to let people know I'm still waiting for a codex.

I think the type of units you can take depends on the strength of a factions alliance. In the WD battle report, the Guard had an allied Stormraven from the GK, so I guess it can't just be mandatory choices, (unless the Stormraven is a dedicated transport).

Found these two pictures on heresy online. Pretty relevant for the topic. After my Sons of Sek army I'm thinking of starting a Chaos Marine army with Imperial Guard allies, plus summoning daemons. Should give a lot of work for conversions and cool units.

Yup, they would count as "desperate allies".

Going by the fluff Blood Angels and Necrons should be battle brothers/.
Maybe SoB get shafted for allies is purely because, by virtue of being all female, they can't actually be 'battle brothers' with anyone.

nice find Gerner, if that's all true then the fortification seems to have been a little over hyped!

This is what I find interesting.... and bring hope to my heart. I feel that allies would break the game, for the shear amount of BEARDED CHEESE that could be conjured. It doesn't strike me as any fun. Now, seeing as how you seem to need 2000+ points to even take allies. I fee less worried about the UNHOLY alliances that are sure to spring up.
