Hey All, I had an idea for a thread I thought would be cool to hear every ones opinion. We have all had a moment, when building model, we thought we were gonna throw the thing as far as we could, set it aflame, or stomp it into oblivion. Something that no matter how hard we tried, it just came out less than what we were wanting. How about everyone chime in on their "I'm gonna stomp this thing into the ground" moment?
Mine was today while building my first Basilisk. I worked for nearly an hour trying to get the stoopid rails for the back deck railing straight!! No matter what I did one of them was crooked and looked like a grot had tried to assemble it. I managed to get it to look straight (if you look at it from the right angle) after a solid hour of work. How about everyone else?

My fits of model building rage were mostly related to putting together tank tracks on the old russes and chimera. Those things drove me up the wall. Eventually I just added track guards to all my vehicles so I wouldn't have to put treads all the way around on each side. In regards to those bassie rails, I eventually didn't bother adding them to my second one when I couldn't make them work. I decided I liked the "open deck" look more anyway, since it allowed me to pile gear and 1/35th scale tank shells on the decking.
I also glued a tank to my face once, but that's a different story.

I have 3 basilisks and I hated building ever single one of them. Though there were a few moments of extreme frustration with my valkyrie...

I've found fantasy monstrous creatures to be the most difficult. I imagine the big nids would be difficult too.

Most of the older all metal models that require significant pinning and glue to hold together.
And like Reds said, the old tread styles.
I hate those so very much.

Most of the older all metal models that require significant pinning and glue to hold together. Obliterators. Oh god, obliterators. They were the most horrid things to build, and they weren't even mine. We resorted to a mix of locetite, super glue for metal, and a bit of clay to wad them on, and they finally stuck. Reds

I almost put my Valkyrie through the window a couple of times as I recall.
Every now and then I think about getting a couple more, and then I think about that again and don't bother.

This is my first Valk and painting it has been a nightmare, but I know how to do next better next time so still might get the other two I have planned.
By biggest modeling pain was trying to get my tank commander wave a flag from the hatch. I'd modified a CCS flag arm which fell apart twice during gluing; the chest on the other hand dried surprisingly quick giving me very little wriggle room when it needed to be twisted a little to get the arm to fit right, which was annoying. I dry fitted the arm three times to make sure it was in the place I wanted it to be, but then when it came to gluing the chest had moved again slightly, so if I had continued - it wouldn't have been exactly where I wanted it - but that doesn't matter, because when the arm dropped off the chest a few seconds after gluing the Red Mist was well and truly set in.
Needless to say I scrapped the lot.

They're up there with the old metal treemen from Fantasy, who had big, heavy arms that stuck straight up and would pull off if you looked at them wrong.

I had some moments with my Valkyrie, but most recently was just one of the Dark Angels I've painted. His helmet wings kept falling off and/or looked crooked, the banner on his backpack fell off several times, and then just as I finish painting him and have him stuck together completely, he decides to skydive off my desk and explodes into pieces.

I'm amazed by the number of people who've had trouble with the valk. That's probably the easiest model I've ever built that was not a snap together thing. I thought nothing of taking it apart to paint it.
As for the topic... nothing GW makes that I've bought has actually been difficult, although the marine land speeders are poorly designed. You can't get the canopy to sit on the floor properly. They re-released the thing since I got my last one, so hopefully they've fixed that.

there are a few rustrating moments, but the one pop in mind for me is the city sector terrain, the floors and the walls drive me nuts, and i'm a pretty good at following directions and putting them together too..
as for metal models, i use the spray glue activator' to fasten the superglue drying process, then i add more glue before green stuff areas of noticeable holes, never had to pin any metals..

Mine has to be the metal fantasy orc and goblin catapult. The thing falls apart in a breeze. And the goblin with flag on top of it is always pointing at me, saying it's my fault. Of course he has come of a few times too. It's al gw's fault: they made the hinge point of the catapult vertical instead of horizontal, so it has no support whatsoever. You can see in the picyture where the top goblin has come off too. I don't bother with repainting, he will fall off again anyway.

The metal hive tyrant was a pain in the neck...I had kind of forgotten about it but this thread reminded me.
I haven't had a lot of trouble with things in plastic.
The old tank treads were annoying..but not difficult...there were just the boringest part of the whole model and they took the longest to cut out and line up properly.

So glad I chose to just convert my Oblits from AoBR Terminators ;D Oh god, just got flashbacks to trying to put Zoanthropes together. Tiny contact area, top-heavy beyond the point of ridiculousness.

Mine was one of the old terminator chaplains, the ones where they had the banner slid into their backs. I have no idea what it was, but for the life of me it would not glue. I kid you not, took me 2+ hours to get right. To this day, there is a visible amount of glue on his back.

I remember the tracks on the old vehicle kits too. They were a pain! I ended up not putting any on the bottoms, just so I could be done with them sooner. I also had issues with the old metal Eldar Wraithlords. If you sneezed in the same room an arm would fall off!

Frakking. Ogryn. Arms. The only ogryn I haven't had this trouble with is a single, ancient-as-Terra-itself mini which was from the Ye Olde Rogue Trader days (biker goggles, padded leather, the works). And that's because it's a single piece.
Other difficult modeling times include "that time I won an old metal/plastic hybrid sentinel in a raffle" and "Hey bro, want to help me build my Obliterators?"

That dam Stormraven model was a beatch to put together!!
Oh and The Dreadknight kit as well, being very particular, I wanted to get all the leg and body parts painted first......what a nightmare trying to put it all together afterwards!
Both my Valks went to gether smoothly, don't know what all this fuss is about???
The Hellhound took a bit of time as well, seeing as I wanted to get all the barrells and pipework panited before assembling
The only issue I had with the Basilisk kit was the stupid winding handle on the earthshaker breech

Just put together a Chimera that I was tempted to smash against the wall. The pieces didn't fit right so I had to shave some off to get them to fit, the glue dried to fast in places and some parts are crooked, and my glue bottle farted on me and I end swapping paint for skin on some places. Next time I'm paying someone to put it together, I'll just paint the f***ing thing.

Metal Khorne Bezerker Champion whose head was made from kryptonite. Every time I tried to glue it in place ( EVERY TIME ) I'd wait for a couple of hours touch it and the head would fall off. It was like trying to glue a metal Greater Daemon with water or urine.
No joke Eventually I gave up and crammed green stuff, spit and cream cheese into it before dousing 33cl of glue and yeah, that did the trick
