Suns of Dorn IG army

Hey guys it's been a while. Good to see everyone is still going strong. I am a member from a little while ago who had to give the hobby a large break but now that my opportunity to game and collect has found itself again so have I found this great forum of talent!

My painting is slow but I have been getting better and am doing a little bit every day so it's getting there. My original thread was this one, of the Desert Dogs. While the scheme has remained the same, and some of the models, too, the army has changed a little bit.

The Suns of Dorn are a regiment raised from Sahra ( ) which is now an imaginary world in the same system as Inwit, where Rogal Dorn was found. This is the backstory to why I sometimes use my Crimson Fists models as allies. They have a number of regiment variants from the world, such as an artillery regiment, armoured regiment, infantry regiment and mechanised regiment.

My stock 1,500pt army list contains an element of all of these regiments, each with their own regiment number and nick-name, such as the Argonauts for my Alpha Prime 2nd Imperial Navy Vendetta squadron (assigned, of course) and the Titans 450th LAV regiment, whose vehicles are all named after Greek Mythological appearances. This is part of a self-motivated armies on parade project.

From what is at the end of my original thread I haven't painted much (break, of course!) but there are some photos here of what little I have done to show the latest standard the guys are coming out at. Check out the first post in the previous thread for a comparison and I'm sure you will agree that I have at least improved a little, even if my painting is very slow the one picture shows how I plan to lay out my armies on parade board (with a lot of elements missing, but you get the idea).

Currently I'm working on (in order):
* Finish Argonauts Vendetta
* Finish Leman Russ Exterminator
* Start/Finish Leman Russ MBT
* Beef out the mechanised infantry
* finish flamer chimera
* finish platoon for army list

nice dude, desert themed armys are the coolest... and you done a really good job of the camo, crisp lines and the trooper in the 3rd pic is very well defined with washes.

just need to work on your photography... kinda blurry, but i know how difficult it is.

do like the brown rims on the bases... you could mix them in with the EDF and no-one would know.

Thanks man I appreciate it. I will try taking the next few photos without my macro filter on to see if I can tone down the effect to something more viewable.

I think that's the nicest Val I've seen, the detail in the radar and glow is great! Makes me want to buy a Val and be better at painting

Thanks for the kind words, even if maybe a little mislaid: there is some real talent on this board. Just getting on with the second engine now, and then on to the under wing lascannons. I didn't buy the FW kit and they have been stripped from a land raider kit, so here's hoping they mount okay.

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with the display tile, finish it now!

The Valk is great, the hazard stripes are a nice touch I personally haven't seen on a valk before. The infantry seem shiny in some places and matte in others will you be changing this or keeping them the same?

I do need to get some matte varnish but I'm not too worried about this until I get an army worth fully painted. any suggestions, preferably of the spray variety, are more than welcome.

I will edit here and show the bunker part which I have finished, the trenches are currently only blacked and drybrushed.

Ta-da! The bodies on the floor only got a fraction of the attention to detail they could have received because A) the model is so detailed it would've taken ages otherwise (the trench parts are worse) and B) I will eventually be sand blasting that entire area so it made no sense to spend ages on a it.




And just to add to it, a mortar team I hadn't got any pictures of until now. The models look a little dusty in the picture because they are actually a little dusty.



Also, just as a sneaky aside, I don't think I ever got to post my Terminator Sgt from my Crimson Fist project anywhere on these forums...

Ah I know this isn't painted but it is shaping up with potential, and I just had to take some photos and get some tips for more development if there are any, but this is my latest Leman Russ - Compared to my others this one is designed to look like it really is lived in during a long campaign. It is quickly becoming my most detailed and therefore most ambitious land vehicle project.






If anyone out there is looking to make their next Leman Russ project a little bit more than just the standard kit, the extra crewmen, IG Tank Accessory sprue, and the Baneblade Accessory sprue combined do make for an easy way to get a little bit more; would recommend getting those.

Really great work on the painted models. I see you used the old style searchlight on the Russ, from the extra sprue that used to be in all tank kits.

Yeah I thought a static gun platform style tank would be using a larger searchlight to help associated supporting troops, so I went for it. I was a little put off using it on other models due to the size but I think it works well here.
