Cheers man, I've got plans for a Chaplain but that's a little way off. I've been making some steady progress this week. 2 more veterans finished. I've tried to improve them by adding a little Nuln Oil into the recesses. Here they are:

Finished 2 more Veterans for my Ultramarines, 4 left to go. I'm pleased with the way they are going probably my best unit to date. Now I'm looking forward to the next book as I'm interested in the new Rites of war. The one with the Primarch as an HQ and the one with the Militia especially!

Great looking work as always! Love seeing your models. I'm currently thinking that when I wrap up my IF project I may start a 30k salamanders army.
Have you thought about doing the Sargeant helmet plumes in red? Might set them apart and add some pop. Just a thought.

Thanks mccaptain! You should do some Salamanders your IFs are looking great. It's a good idea but I'd set out to only use a mix of blues with the warmth coming from the gold. Well I've finished my first squad of Veterans. I'm chuffed with how they've come out. I think I'll probably do some more vets with meltaguns next. Though I think I'm needing some tanks.

I certainly can't argue with your results! They look amazing. Those vets look like they could do some serious damage.

The bases make everything stand out, think I've said that before, think a basing tut is in order.

I agree with dougeye. Would like to see how you do the bases. I really like tall bases, they make space marines look all the more intimidating.

Thanks guys! Here's a quick guide as to how I do my bases, it's quite simple really! What you'll need: Gravel, sand, cork board and bitz from GW building sets. After covering the base with super glue stick on a piece of building and a little cork board. Once those are glued on add a bit of sand, this is to bring it all together. Now you're ready for painting! I pinted my bases using GW grey paints but you could use any colours you like. Hope you find this some help.

spot on I was trying to figure out what you used but cork board makes perfect sense! may go for a mars themed cork board rocky outcrop effect for my mechanicum army.

For my second Veteran squad I've gone for meltaguns and 2 power weapons. I know it's probably not the most competitive build but I think it looks cool! Here's the serg and a squady: Next up will be a power sword vet and another rank and file marine

Bloody hell! Can't believe I've only just looked at this... I'm an outspoken hater of the UltraSmurfs... But these look fantastic! Ever since I've started playing 40k, at least one regular opponent has ran with Smurfs, and I came to hate them, just as my enemies came to hate Leman Russ'... It got to the point where I would look at a Smurf player/ Or there Army, and snigger... But.. I think having seen this log... I can let it go at long last.. These are BEAUTIFUL!! I've never delved into 30k too much, but, as a Veteran Chaos Commander, I know a sizable chunk about the Horus Heresy, and I must say, you have done the Ultramarines more than proud! This is quite possibly one of, if not THE best Ultramarine army I have ever seen.. Each miniature is so unique. Truly.. Masterpieces are rife in this thread! I will be keeping a close eye on this log as I start my own Astounding job mate!! Dave

Oh... OH!... Lets see what my proposed Sons of Sanguinius have to say about this.. What's that? Gold and Red look better than Blue and Gold? (Apart from these Works of Art..) I'll have to get around to posting my Blood Angels Captain this evening or something, there will be no paint on him sadly as I need to go buy new paints, I gave all my old ones to a new player who was struggling with cash not long after I stopped collecting, because, I'm a nice guy like that Assembled the bugger this afternoon though

Really amazing veteran squad; love those Calth marines and that antique meltagun.
Do the 30k veterans get special issue ammo or just the standard bolter?

Thanks The Hawk! I'm glad you like them! I'm currently working on tanks. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, I love painting infantry but find vehicles a bit of a slog. I'm not weathering them as I wanted my Ultramarines to stay shiny and box fresh! Hope to have some pics soon.

Thanks again mate! I finished my second Sicaran today. I changed which panels the light blue was on. I thought I'd mix it up a bit, I try to make my infantry look as individual as possible so why not the tanks! I have to say I'm loving the Forgeworld decals! Anyway here's the pics: Ultramarines SicaranUltramarines Sicaran Ultramarines SicaranUltramarines SicaranNext up is a Command Landraider for the big G!

Great looking tank (and army), the stripe along the side really helps to break up the blue without drawing to much attention.

I think the Sicaran is second only to the Macharius in sexyness; damn fine job you did painting it too!
