This Thread will be a trip from the start of the painting of this army to the finished force on the gaming board .
It might move from painting onto gaming tactics, army lists and such. Then perhaps back again...
THE MODELS
Originally the army was a small force I treated my self to last year. After a strange paint reaction GW kindly replaced every model! So I've stripped the first batch and added them to the new for a rather large army! (Around 170 models and 2 tanks!)
So the army is now at the point were they have been (pre spray) based, undercoated and have a coat of Zandri Dust spray paint.
THE BACKGROUND
Third War for Armageddon - The 141st fought in the defence of Palonious where they suffered heavy casualties. They were eventually reinforced by the Salamanders chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. During the battle around the Eumenides bridge the regiment was all but destroyed by a large body of Orks from the Blackskulls tribe as they migrated out of the Diablo mountain range. With the assistance of the Salamanders the bridge was saved and the Orks pushed back to the mountains. The remnants of the regiment were used to reinforce the 252nd Regiment. - Lexicanum

1st Platoon command squad: Platoon Captain sporting his 'gang' haircut from whatever house gang he excelled in before being drafted into the imperial guard. Armed with a shotgun and covered in shells... Perfect for urban warfair!! Captain model based on a Necromunda scum models. Autocannon simply converted from the Lascannon team. I've also added spent ammo on the ground. Very simply using cut up dry paster.

Wow! You're really getting cracking on the painting. They're looking good and I think they will look good ranked up on the table top.
I think the bases would look better if you cleaned up the sides and maybe painted the sides a slightly darker shade.

Yeah, I was thinking like a (what was called) graveyard earth on the base rim...
It depends, I was thinking, if I make a board the same colour, do I want the base to blend in?

It's Baneblade Brown now. They look really amazing ; they have that trench WW1 look with the khaki fatigues. The commander gang hairstyle is fab; good hairdressing techniques You want your Steel Legion to blend in to the gameboard but put some kind of bright army insignia patch/ campaign marking on their uniform somewhere so you can see them during a game.

Thanks Cheminhaler! I'm sure I have that paint. I'll give a model a go and see what it's like. Here are some more I've compleated today... Vetran squad with three plasma guns. I've done these slightly different to make it clear they are vets. I have done a stripe down the center of the helmets and all boots, Gasmask and gloves are black. Lascannon teams. Here I've made some detail brick building ruins that the teams are using for cover. Commissar. Using a empire witch hunter and just a simple green stuff Gasmask.

Excellent work bro! I've always considered a steel legion army but I remember my experiences from when I first got into the hobby and the metal models didn't want to stay glued together most of the time.
But seriously, that is a fine company!

It's actually not used a lot of super glue.
Obviously weapons teams bits... But men to bases, I just bend the metal strip so it fits tighter in the slot.
Then I pva and sand base, then gravel bits, then undercoat spray and I think it's the PVA that really sticks then.
Thanks for your comments! My Legion would be honoured to march into battle attached to your cadians any day, against any foe!!!! *
*= Apart from Necrons... There a right pain in the arse! Your on your own there lol

For the emporer!
I love how the difficulty in fighting the Necrons is becoming a long-running joke lol
Oh and by the way, what about the HWTs? I have a few Vostroyans I was planning on putting together but I'm not sure what the proper technique would be to get them to stick to the bases. I believe they don't actually have slots.

Suppose the answer is be patient...
I'm not saying that's how I've done it! But for example the heavy weapons steel legion, glue the Gunner and wait till he's bonded and dryied to the base.
Separately glue the little stand to the heavy Bolter and make sure it's dry, before gluing the heavy Bolter to the Gunner.
Then when it's dry, add the loader.
I actually do it all at once and end up pulling my hair out!

Hahah yes yes I can completely relate. Do you use citadel super glue? I've heard something called JB weld works very well but have yet to try it.

I go for any brand, as long as it ain't cheap rubbish. The stuff that dosnt stick from pound lamd etc just ain't worth anything at all.

I've just had problems with metal models in general. I used to use the citadel super glue and it was either hit or miss; a really good bond or pieces that would be falling off all the time. Though I think I can say that metal-to-metal was always much better than metal-to-plastic (original Tau Broadsides).

I also have bad memory's of the tau broadside.
Worse was the 2nd ed wirlwind (second tank ever... After predator annihilator.

Yeah, Broadside armies were unfair to tank Guard. HH/BB combo was more flexible

I also have bad memory's of the tau broadside. Worse was the 2nd ed wirlwind (second tank ever... After predator annihilator. Were they half metal? My broadsides were fairly effective against my buddy's guard back in the day. The only problem was the fact that he would use tons of terrain to block my sight and then I'd be pummeled with basilisk barrage rounds until I was dust.
