Couldn't agree more... when you're facing an army of rhino' nothing better. AP7 and two shots... I'm praying that it goes back to AP3 - it'll be the first thing I scan for in the new codex.

So can grenade launchers.
RETURN THE AUTOCANNON TO ITS ORIGINAL GLORY, MISTER JOHNSON SIR. Bugger, caps lock again.

I tend to ignore AP when I choose my weapons and focus instead on the ability to move and fire (for special weapons/HQ upgrades), range, and the amount of shots per turn.
My philosphy- "He's going to fail a save someday, so let's put out as much dakka as possible to make that day come sooner."

So your option is plasma, or vets toting storm bolters?

I'm inclined to strongly disagree with thenoblewoves on this one. AP counts for EVERYTHING. Never underestimate the psychological effect a Melta or Plasma gun can have on an opponent for their ability to negate armour saves.

both paths have their merits. you can fire a shot of plasma and its going to kill if it hits.
however if you shoot enough lasguns or autocannons in enough numbers your going to kill something to.
the problem with your high powered weapons is that they often have one shot.
