Conventional Carapace is not the same as Conventional Flak, as we know, however we can tell if it looks the same and just made of better material or not with basic logic. If it was then the standard stromtrooper models and Kasrkin would be wearing the same armour as the standard troopers for that army. Because otherwise why would they be wearing all that extra armour?
It is called Carapace armour, because it is more like a carapace, which covers as much as the body whilst still retaining as much flexibility and movement as possible, I draw your attention to the Kasrkin model, there is no armour in places that might inhibit his flexing, back of knee, armpits, and elbows, yet, he carrys as much coverage as possible. Considering this, the standard Cadian Shock Troop wears a Flak Jacket, not Flack Armour, therefore you should model carapace armour in vital areas (ie, Crotch) and not just knee pads.
