I like them, really cool pose. Oh and I see you've also recently joined the ranks of the Warmasters! Congrats, time flies when you're painting loads of warhammer!

I love the way you painted them. The bikes look very worn. And as I assume you noticed those...."Horsies" seem rather....unstable...

Congrats, time flies when you're painting loads of warhammer! If by that you mean, "Flies repeatedly into a brick wall," then yeah - I'll agree with that.

Thanks so much everyone! Been a bit of a crazy week - exams, halfway ball (only 2 and a half years to go! ;D), and projects, but I managed to fix a whole one (1) guardsman! That's right, he's not even new Remember this guy? Well, when I decided to ditch the HW teams I'd painted, i didn't want to waste the effort I made on them, so I'm working on reincorporating them to the force. Here's the first one! Would love to know what you think I love the way you painted them. The bikes look very worn. And as I assume you noticed those...."Horsies" seem rather....unstable... Thanks a lot! Though I don't think I really follow the second bit - must not have unencrypted it properly. I understand though, can never be too careful with all these xenos around...

Very cool, I love the gasmask guy. And the scavanged shoulder pads are really nice. Congrats, time flies when you're painting loads of warhammer! If by that you mean, "Flies repeatedly into a brick wall," then yeah - I'll agree with that. It's not the flying that's the problem, it's the taking off that's the problem for me .

Thanks Happyorange! Next up's the first of my Valhallans - I'm trying to keep them cohesive with everyone else, and still keep the scavenger kind of feel. It looks loads better outside of the photos, but I think you get the idea What do you reckon? Cheers! Scarp

That has to be one sweaty guardsman! I think it looks good, especially since I can't paint camo, it looks real good.

Cheers guys! In terms of overheating, I was thinking I could get away with it since Caitiff is a wasteland planet - freezing at night, hot in the day, like a desert! Do you think it could work? Sorry for the delay on the new stuff - work got in the way a little bit Finn, below, was a test model - I was trying to clip the head off an Escher ganger to make a female guardsman, but ended up failing miserably and completely mashing her face. A bit of clumsy GS work later, I think I fixed it ok, anyway In terms of painting, I've been working on improving my battle damage - what do you reckon? (The lighting on these is pretty terrible - she looks better in real life, honest!) Last but not least, here's a teaser shot of a WIP sergeant I've been making whilst learning some more about green stuff: Thanks so much for all your input so far, and I'd love to hear any feedback, good or bad I've changed my fluff a little bit as well - I ditched the ork thing, and my new idea is that Caitiff was a mining world, useful for some (yet to be decided!) ore. When the ore ran out, so did it's use to the Imperium. When a civil war ravaged the planet, it was decided that an evacuation was the best solution, but too few evac points were arranged, and bandits and rebel forces blockaded the roads, so large numbers of the population were left stranded on the wartorn and anarchic planet. Ridgeway's forces are the remains of the PDF, along with any civilians who joined and trained. The current timeline of my forces is about 15 years after the botched evac. Would love some input from fluffophiles - does this sound 'imperium plausible'? I'm going to try writing a sort of microfluff story for each guardsman I paint, as a way of getting some background to my army out without a big boring chunk of text. I'm not exactly a proficient writer, but this is the first one I just knocked up in 15 minutes or so. It's about Finn (above!). Let me know if you like the idea, and I'll do a little more "Finn eyed the hatch carefully, considered hiding spots around it. The threadbare rug still covering the thing had only been slightly askew, probably knocked aside by a jackal rather than left intentionally exposed. Not enough was showing for an ambush - it was too subtle. She looked to Loki beside her, sniffing the air. She didn’t seem phased, and as far as Finn was concerned, that meant she needn’t be either. Drawing her blade, she inched towards the trapdoor. With a little effort, the hatch came free, a thick layer of dust clouding up with it. If anyone was down there, they hadn’t left in a while. She laid the hatch silently beside her, cursing under her breath again the rat bastard who‘d stolen her gas mask - could never trust the dust on Caitiff anymore. Took real scum to steal from the Remnant’s barracks - they were all in the same state, and were supposed to be in it together. Pulling her mask tighter, she stepped gingerly into the hole, her bionic instantly adjusting to the darkness. The room was empty - an old basement with a bedroll, assorted trash, and a corpse. This one was fresher than the rest, the flesh clinging to the bones less leathery, and the stench of death still permeating his shelter. Glancing at his desiccated face, Finn put him at 17, maybe 18 - just a child when the war started. Poor kid had probably gone to starvation - Emperor knew, everyone else had. He’d set himself up a nice little bunker though, before he’d gone, and judging by the empty food cans scattered around, he’d managed to stay safe here for a while. She was always equal parts awed and terrified by those who survived alone in the wasteland - what with the bandits, murderers and crazies, local wildlife and a landscape picked clean, it was a feat of endurance; but one that took its toll on sanity. It had been years since she’d met a waster who hadn’t attacked her on sight. Still, Ridgeway took in new recruits occasionally, so maybe she just had bad luck. Muttering a quick prayer for the boy’s ghost, she went through his things. Boots - worn through to the sole, but still good for repairs. Dragging them off his skeletal feet, she placed them in her pack. His clothes were rags, nothing useful, but in his belt she found a worn auto pistol; empty and eroded, but good for parts. The rest of his things were useless - charms and talismans, a few sentimental items. She left the hatch the way she’d came, patting Loki as she guarded the door. She replaced the lid across the hatch, marked it in red with a crude depiction of a jackal, and stepped out the door. One more room searched, one less place to see on the dead planet. God, she hated scavenger duty."

It sounds plausable. I have a non-chaos army where the very elite are daemonic. But it (Ridgeway) would simply be out of CR(care radius) of anyone of high importance. I.E. it simply wasn't stretegically important enough to be worth justifying a expensive counter attack.

Just a note on the feasible waste planet thing, it is absolutly feasable. During WWII soldiers wore greatcoats in the desert just like that Valhallan because even in African deserts it gets that cold at night. The fluff sounds like a typical Imperial, "oops" The writing fluff for everyone, I tried once and gave up, to many guardsman. Besides when one dies on the tabletop it must be crushing, you practically new him

Cheers for the input, guys! I was thinking Caitiff could be a planet on the outskirts - like you said, Hetlan, not strategically worth retaking once the ore was gone. Probably not the most original conversion, but after getting a box of the old beastmen in a trade, I threw a couple of these guys together Only problem is, I don't know what to do if I made a whole squad of them! I thought I might be able to paint them up in the Remnants scheme and just scatter them throughout my squads, seeing as the collection of models I've got is pretty eclectic anyway. Not sure if that would ruin the feel of the army though Failing that, I thought the penal legion rules would fit an unpredictable collection of brutal creatures pretty well, but seperating them from the rest of the army seems a little too organised (and kind of discrimanatory! ) for the remnants. Third option is just to leave them as a fun side project. What do you guys think? You've never steered me wrong yet! ;D

I like the Idea of having them as penal legion, however it would be cool to have a few of them scattered throughout your army as bodyguards or Ogryns stand ins,

They could be the sgts, if you don't feel like discriminating against the mutants. That precludes not killing the mutants, of course...

Back in the day circa 1987(as i date myself) GW had beastmen in the imperial guard with a command choice and troop selections. I used them as cannon fodder pretty much like the penal legion,If its made with GW parts and you let your opponents know before hand what they are to be used as,I see no problem with using them.IMO

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll bear it in mind ;D In the meantime, here's a vet from my command squad I've been working on - tried out a bunch of new techniques in terms of weathering and stubble, plus a new base that I feel needs some work. Do you like him? Thanks for any feedback! p.s. - Does anyone know how to remove a poll from their thread? D'oh!
