Ooooh I spotted something for once - get some boltgun metal on those buckles (Leg pockets, backpack). Also... NO MOULDINES! This is very pleasing ;D. ...But maybe it's just the angle... (Hah I joke )

Thanks so much guys! @er - It's going to sound really pathetic, but that really is just the angle of the picture. If you look at the model from any other way than with him staring directly at you (which is impossible on the tabletop anyway!), it looks much better I might try expanding the helmet next time I use the head though - just don't want to end up having to repaint the whole helmet this time ReWolf - Thanks for the spot! Don't know how I missed that, I think it was going to be my last step when I painted him up. And he is indeed mouldline free - I've been practicing! And thanks a lot Hetlan, really appreciate it I'm working on some terrain at the mo, will try to get a pic up after my exams, but before I move. Stress stress stress no one cares

So... when are you going to paint the rough riders?

Wow, Scarper, that does sound kinda pathetic. But I forgive you. This time.

Nice shot! Bastard never seems to stay down though... Helmian, the riders are in my 1000pt list, and will probs be the first things to get painted once I get onto that. Still got 15 or so models to paint to complete my first 500pts though ;D Just to show I'm not doing nothing, here's a current project - The idea is that it's an outpost near the Remnant's home town - an outlying building destroyed a long time ago. It'll be constantly manned by two lookouts, who will live there for a couple of days before being relieved. A few detail shots - The radio and generator will eventually be wired up, the posts will have a tarpaulin draped across them to cover the sleeping area, and I'm looking to get a heavy stubber set up next to where the sniper rifle is at the moment (if anyone has one to trade, please chck out the trading post!). There will be some posters around the walls, and hopefully you can see the landmines out front. Hopefully it'll make an interesting bit of terrain, and a few house rules could make it worth taking ;D I'd love to hear any suggestions people might have to make it more interesting / improve the modelling. THis is the first bit of terrain I've ever done, so I'd really appreciate any advice! Love you all

Not bad for your first bit of terrain. I like it. I was never too fond of the 40K terrain from GW, as they have too much... stuff all over. Brevity is the soul of wit, for writing plays, and for making good terrain.
This will look really good when you paint it.

Couldn't you just call it a scoutpost?

I can't wait to see this building finished. I really like the wooden floor boards. I am now officially stealing that idea. As for things to spice it up, maybe a couple of motorcycles the scouts ride in one, some molotovs scattered, and out back some kind of latrine because hardened soldiers they may be, but they still have to use the restroom every now and then.

I RETURN!I can't believe it's been nearly a month since I posted anything - been really swamped lately. Exams are over now (plus post-exam liver-beating), I'm all moved into a new flat, and ready to get some more painting done! Year 4 of my course starts in a week though, so that's almost a holiday over already. Looks like I'll have to work quickly... Thanks loads for the comments and compliments, everyone, I really appreciate them I really like your ideas in particular, Rarves, will definitely include a couple of those in the finished article, thanks! The walls are from this site, which has ridiculous amounts of awesome scenery stuff. Be warned that it needs a bit of cleanup before use though - pretty standard for resin moulds though, I guess. First model from my new improved work station (the whole thing folds away - it's awesome!) is this vet flamer. I'm still struggling to get the lighting right for photos here, but I'd love to know what you reckon! I've been playing around with rust effects and skin tones I'd love any tips you might have, and critique, even if it's bad Just wanted to say that I really appreciate all your support so far, everyone - it was this board that pretty much got me into guard in the first place, and you're a bunch of wonderful people. Just thought you should know!

Great job with the flamer! You really did a good job making the proportions look right for a female.

what heads are u using? They are great! I agree with rarves, the proportions are spot on for a female.

Thanks again Rarves! I've been trying to improve my proportions, and I've found that using the smaller hands and ditching shoulder plates seems to work pretty well for female guard ;D Thanks flippy, too! The heads are from micro art studio, a small but awesome Polish company. Today's update is more about upgrades than new stuff. First up is a model I was never really happy with - the female head was too small with the huge catachan hands and the cadian shoulder pad. One head swap (and a sex change) later, I was left with this. Do you think the GS hair works? It's the one I'm most pleased with so far, but I'd love some criticism. I've also tried out a new technique for the scar, and the same rust effects were added as for Stoke. This next model is one of the first I ever painted around March last year (you can see him on the left in the first picture), and I thought I'd experiment to see if I could make a few really quick changes to get him more in line with my current models. Hopefully it works! before: after: As always, I really appreciate any comments and criticism, so hit me!

The GS hair could have some improvement on those side burns (2nd photo). Otherwise I think the headswap works well. and Lolz MURPHY's got a target on his back [enemy tau commander *Il just aim up the sight of my rail rifle*]

With Murphy, either something should be going wrong with him, or something should go horribly wrong with him (or his squad) every game. You know, Murphy's law: If anything can go wring it will go wrong, and at the worst possible time.

I agree with the love of the target on the back armor plate. The scar looked good, but I think if you could make it look a little thinner it would help, and I like the eye being white from the scar wound.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like Murphy, and I did have Murphy's law in mind with the target when I named him, so nice job picking up on it! Thanks for the tips on how to improve Holkins, too, I'll bear them in mind with whatever I end up painting next. This model is from studio McVey, and I'm planning on using her as a Harker stand-in. I've tried out some natural light photos as requested a few pages back - hopefully they're an improvement! As always, I really appreciate any comments or criticisms you guys might have - let me know how I can improve! ;D

This really is an awesome topic.
You've done a great job on her face and hair. Probably one of the best you've done. I like the boots to and the general positioning of the model.

THanks so much for the kind words, guys, specially bout the face and hair. I put a lot more work than I normally do into highlights and shading and that on her head, so I'm really glad it shows! Thanks again ;D Here's a quick shot of the now finished (!) vet squad she leads - I've tried to get shots showing both the front and back lines. As soon as I've painted them up a hound, they're good for the battlefield!

Hahaha, no takers on the group shot then? Fair dos, I guess it was nothing new The weapon on this next WIP is heavily influenced by a concept I saw in endtransmission's awesome blog. He has tons of original ideas, and is building an amazing army, so check him out! I'm still trying to improve my GS-fu, so here's a nearly complete melta gunner with an underslung gun. I've always thought the GW vanilla ones are big enough to look ridiculous on a guardsman, so cutting it down seemed like an awesome plan! I'd love to know how you think I could improve this before I paint it, so thanks in advance for any comments!
