If i am correct the new Veterans will be the bomb but what about their special character: Lukas Bastonne? I hear he can use orders like an officer but what else can he do?
Any special orders like creed's FOR THE HONOUR OF CADIA! rule?

His squad can always try to rally. It also says that he can add an order like a platoon cmdr, so maybe you can stack certain orders? It would be cool if he also came with a choice of free vet. doctrine, or some such discount on squad improvement.

I do believe like Elegaic said, they can always rally and he can issues 1 order per turn. And he comes with camo cloaks so you cannot take carpace. Me thinks....

No, he has no camo cloak, just 'pace. He should lead a team of grenadiers, in my opinion. Keep in mind though that he's a 60 points single wound figure. Be careful with him...

yeah he sounds quite cool (orders his own squad at LD 10) but VERY FRAGILE 1 wound T3 with a 4 up save.

He has leadership 10, yay, and can issue orders like a full commander, meaning any of them including "bring it down" and "Fire on my mark" but he can only issue them to his own squad, the ld 10 means he won't be failing though. With his hotshot pistol I think he would work best in a grenadier squad. I'm going to be using him in a valkyrie and gonna give one of the guys a heavy flamer and use it has a powerful attacking force against guys in cover. fire on my mark makes your opponent reroll successful cover saves.

Now that WILL be his strength if he can give the HSO orders he's starting to look like a powerful supporting character now and more worth his points.

True, even though it's only to his own squad. Since they're veterans they can take three special weapons and benefit according to the enemy at hand(A couple of meltas with the Bring it Down or full plasma vs MEQ's in cover and the Fire on my Mark). I've made a couple of builds with online resources as reference and I've realized one thing : Veterans are expensive! Especially when paired with their Special Character upgrades. They need to be used with extreme caution and managed so that they are supported by other assets at all times. They're really a make-or-break unit for the army.

I agree. After all, lots of weapons still cut through 'pace, and t3 doesn't help their case much either

Hehe, and by that logic a lot of weapons cut through 3+ armour: hotshot lasguns Missiles Battlecannon Killcannon plasmagun plasmapistol dark reaper thingy? meltagun infernopistol multimelta demolisher cannon vanquisher cannon earthshaker ...most of our artillary .... the list really goes on... and any of this stuff will smush grenadiers as well EDIT: oh and POWERWEAPONS ignore all armour

I'm seeing Bastonne best used in a Chimera, with 3 Meltas or Plasmaguns firing out the top hatch using either Bring it Down or Fire on My Target. The Chimera gives them a lot of extra resilience, especially if you've got another one to run interference against the heavy stuff.

That's gonna make those friggin' psyker battle groups a pain in th ASS of any who oppose the Imperial Guard! Hiyo! Can't kill us inside of this tank with those weapons unless you're lucky...oh, and while you're doing your best to inflict a glance, i'm gonna blast your butt to the nine hells with a S10 Ap1 large blast marker! Hiyo!

The way I've seen the CMP(Chimera Mobile Pillbox mentioned in recent posts, I can imagine alot of conversations going like this: "My marines have Power Armor, that's a 3+ save! What do your puny Guardsmen wear?" "Ooh, just a (Grin) Chimera with a couple of heavy bolters that allows them to fire their 3 plasma guns and more without becoming open-topped. Nothing much, really." By the way, a Veteran Squad with 3 plasma's with nothing else(specialization included) in a bare bones Chimera costs 170 points, just 10 more over a full, un-upgraded marine squad...

Reminds me of a comment I heard about the IG expansion for Dawn of War: "Yeah, so our guys are the weakest, puniest, easiest to kill guys in the game. You know, I don't really care about that when I get to wear a BUILDING as armour!"

My favorite moment, my buddy was bragging that he had wiped out all my troops and rolled his necron right into my base... only to find out I'd spent my time hiding all my guardsmen inside buildings Ah... I don't care if you do get back up when I kill you, I'm in a fricken building man.

I can't tell you how many times a techpriest in a building stopped a raid.
On the topic of Necrons:
"Get up, so I can kill you again!"
"...wait, I was kidding. Oh feth."
