It'll be great to put a unit of stormies in there with a pair of plasma's and drive it right up next to some smurfs! Hiyo! The only thing that can kill them is the missile launcher...or maybe the melta, but no one at my store uses meltaguns with marines, it's wierd! *shrug*

WHAT NO MELTA MARINES?!?!?!? the people at my club love em for some reason or other maybe its because of the high proportion of MEQ armies.

I would like to put a heavy weapon team or two if possible you would have 3 or 5 missle launchers shooting so a good anti tank and infantry. I would have heavy flamer hull and turret to reple infantry assualts.
One quick question if you deploy smoke can the guys inside still fire.

This is not Space Marines or Orks we're talking about here. You can't have any more than three missile launchers in a squad (unless you've combined platoon infantry squads, but you'd never be able to fit 50 men and all their equipment in a chimera).
Yes, passengers in a transport vehicle that deployed smoke launchers may fire, since they're not part of the vehicle.

I beg to differ. Perhaps you haven't heard of the 52nd Clown Auxiliaries. They can fit a 2,000 pt. army in 4 Chimeras.

I fell out of my chair laughing at that. I need to stop hitting the old amasec and browsing the forum.

Teams yes, as long as they're in the same squad.

Except for Super Heavy Transports, you may only ever put one Unit, plus Attached Independent Characters into a Transport at one time.

I think he meant if you combined a 3 squad w/ a 2 squad of heavy weapons, which I don't think you're allowed to do anyway -- just the regular infantry can mob together, right?

Only regular Infantry Squads can join up, correct.

What are you all talking about? You can't use the models' own weapons to shoot out of a chimera, just the lasguns mounted on the sides. Says so in the new codex, at least that's how I understand it.

nope, a chimera has 5 fire points, out of which ANY of the squad's weapons can be fired so long as they meet the movement constraints eg: heavy weapons cannot be fired from a transport that moves etc...

It says in the codex that five models can shoot out of the top hatch, but in reality they are firing the fixed lasgun emplacements. For clarity the shots are assumed to be taken from the top hatch. In my opinion that translates to that the five weapons fired are lasguns but range, line of sight etc are measured from the top hatch, not from the actual emplacements.

no, it counts as any lasguns you fire are the side mounted ones. anything else is fired from the top hatch eg: special or heavy weapons etc....

OH! Now I understand, I just read the old codex and it says one model can fire from the top hatch and the new says five can fire from it. And it doesn't even make the vehicle open topped anymore. That's pretty cool. Guess I'll have to get one or two.

I'm not so sure. They still die as soon as something sneezes on them. Don't base your strategy around them is all I'm saying.

If you can screen the sides, they're pretty resilient. AV12 is nothing to sneeze at, y'know

3-5 Chimeras in a line are REALLY hard to stop in their tracks I've found myself.

Are pintle heavy stubbers still in the new codex? If so this means you could potentially fire the mounted weapons, the heavy stubber, and any weapons the troops inside have. Not counting the weapons of the troops being transported (this can vary) thats a nice 9 shots. If your not using heavy flamers that is.

You are correct.
Can the guys inside fire if you've popped smoke?

The section on Smoke Launchers only says that the Vehicle's Weapons can't fire, and the topic isn't mentioned in the section on Transported Models, so it looks like you can, unless there's a bit I missed somewhere.
