Voxes cost the same as always. Master Voxes are gone (thankfully). However, voxes no longer allow squads to use the officer's leadership (instead they allow you to re-roll for taking orders, assuming you're in range).

I've come to notice that the since the vox network has gone to poop, it's best to keep your platoon CP's within command range to its squads. This will give you bonus's to LD which is horribly needed. Unless you want to dish out some points for Commissar's into every squad. Which I plan on trying this weekend.

Quick point on Officers. the "Leadership" Special rule we currently have, which allows other squads to benefit from the officer leadersjip value, no longer exists as we know it. Vox's no longer let ld. be passed down, and solely allow you to re-roll orders test ( which for five smackers, is still pretty ok). The only model that can pass his ld. to a squad he is not phyisically part of, is the commisar lord, and even he only has a 6" range. The way you handle is up to you, but squads are entirely on thier own when it comes to leadership stuff, though it's a lot easier to get a commisar where you really want him now. He helps a lot..... In short, I think we are going to a strong proliferation in the number of commisars on the tablem where before they were kinda only there if your fluff dictated you have one, or you ran conscripts.

good news for those of us who already use loads of them,
I may need more... 6 might not be enough...

That's quite different than what we're used in; Still, it should be noted that any squad with a sergeant has an effective leadership value of 8, just like a JO in the current codex and is therefore valuable, not just the guy with laspistol & CCW anymore. Keep them out of the fire folks! They make your squads work! The funny thing is, the Platoon commander also has a leadership of 8, meaning that infantry squads within his command radius only benefit from his Orders... Strange. By the way, I'm not quite sure I understand exactly how orders work; Does a Platoon commander issue a single order from his list to all squads in his command radius or just a single squad? Also, does it have to be a squad of his platoon or can it be any squad in range?

it will help to think of this in real life terms. platoon leaders can only boss around thier own platoon. They have no command over other platoons. The company Commander is overall leader of the outfit, so he may order any unit he see fit. This means that your special squads, such as vets, stormtroopers, and other such units that don't come with officers, can only be ordered by the Company Commander. Also, Platoon leaders issue a single order per turn, to a single squad per turn, within 6" or with the vox net.

Command Radius is only for Orders now, period. It no longer affects Ld at all. A Platoon Commander issues a single Order per Turn to a single Squad. I don't believe this has to be from his Platoon, but I don't recall for sure.
This combines nicely with the ability to "Mob Up" the regular Infantry Squads in a Platoon into larger Units. Buy a single Vox and Commissar for the lot, cram 'em together, and then you can shout "First Rank, FIRE!..." at 50 Guardsmen at once ;D

I thought if any Squad is within the Command radius then its effected by the order at least thats how it looks worded?
(Just read rule book haven't gotten the time to really sit down until this morning to read the special rules.)

( Just read rule book haven't gotten the time to really sit down until this morning to read the special rules.) Sorry, the officer has to issue the order to any friendly "Unit" within his command radius to include his own squad. So unfortunately it doesn't mean all units within his radius. On the other hand, if you combine a couple of squads into you can get some pretty large bonuses. Ie, give one squad a vox, then combine it with 2 others and you have a 30 man squad with vox.. combined with orders such as "Bring it Down" and "FRF/SRF"that's a hell of a lot of las gun shots.

While I like being able to reroll order tests, it's kinda dumb that I need to use a voxcaster to talk to the squad ''6 away from the commander. And taking one radio for the uber-platoon, um, does he talk to himself? They could have thought this one through a little more methinks.
Platoon Commander (into vox): BRING IT DOWN!!!RAAAAWWWRRR!!!!Over. *Cssshh* Sergeant: Gah! Sir, you don't need to yell into the comm-bead, I'm standing right next to you. Platoon Commander (into vox): But it sounds cooler this way. Over. *Cssshh.* Sergerant: Ugh! You don't need to make the "Csssh" sound either, it does that for you! Platoon Commander (into vox): Really? *Cssshh* Sergeant: ...

In addition to being able to re-roll the test, vox allow the long range communicvation. You can ignore the 6" range when you have a vox-net.

I don't think so.... Where does it say that? All the vox network says is that you can reroll a failed test.

yeah but cmon' think about it Reichsiege you've got a long range radio in your squad and you only use it for clarification of orders when the officer is standing 6 feet away from you?
hell no! its exactly what it says on the tin, a long range radio!

Yeah, but that's not what it says in the Rules. The Vox Caster entry in the Dex only mentions Re-rolls, nothing about the Range.

damn well that sounds, odd. from what I've heard all along it says it gives some other bonus as well as orders re-rolls. But hell you've obviously read the dex, I haven't. Im gonna get mine as soon as it comes out though ;D

Yep, doesn't say it in the dex. Also, I doubt you can use a vox to re-roll orders given to his own squad (including the uber-platoon) as it specifies "as long as the unit the commander is in and the squad he is targeting for orders have a vox" or something to that effect

aww well, i suppose it would then be practical to merge all 5 squads in a platoon then put the officer behind them at least he will get his 4+ cover save from his men

I was hoping radios can help you ignore the command range, like if you're out of command range you can accept orders via comm link, if within the command radius the comm link allows for better understanding and clarity of orders, hence the re-roll.

you need to look at the special rules for orders NOT vox casters, i am pretty sure that the vox allows the unit to disregard the range limitation on orders. at least i am pretty sure that is how i read it when i read the preview copy of the codex.

if in 38,000 years humans dont have a radio that can transmit from one side of a batel feald to another then games work shop is living in the dark ages
we could use carer pigons or the gaurd could face book each other or text orders to sertan squads (i dont want to hear any thing about verison)
i would make 1 30 man squad and 1 20 man squad for devirsety
one of the gaurds strong points is that we have so much fire power but is usles if the enamey gets 3 broods of 8 gean stelers or 3 combat squads into your 50 man super squads
and insted of 100 lasgun shots being fired at a mob of 10 orks and then leting the other 2 mobs get into close combat we can divert just enoughf fire power to wipe out the one mob and have some left over for other targets
