Does anyone have any thoughts on the new Sly Marbo? Sounds to me like he's basically an assassin type unit. Anyone planning on using him?

Sly seems to be quite good. A somewhat nasty profile and interesting special rules. His pistol always wounds on 4+ and has an AP of 2 His close combat attacks are poisened (2+). The downside is that he appears on the field via reserves all the time and that he can't move or assault then. Just shoot

Use him with a Callidus Assassin. Watch the enemies cry.

Indeed, I think the Marbo and callidus combo will be EVIL especially if they team up against DSing termies, (power weapons are unfair)

He only has a normal CC weapon. No power weapon... His attacks are just poisened but not armour ignoring

I thought it was a poisoned power weapon, reading the old catachan dex it is a monofilament knife which counts as a poisoned power weapon.

Ripper Pistol and Envenomed Blade are his weapons, sorry. But I'm 99,9% sure that his CC attacks are only poisoned but not armour ignoring. In return his pistol now shreds any armour...

But you better hope he doesn't blow himself up. It seems that the demolition charge's penalties outweigh its benefits:
- It can scatter on your own unit - It's a single shot - It's expensive points wise - It's incredibly short ranged - It's powerful enough that nothing under the template will survive the blast (even your own units)

heh, I was going to comment on the scatter, with my experience against vortex grenades in Apoc.
quite simply I had a termie unit in the open, down pops abadon and his retinue on the plate of teleportyness. and out he throws his vortex grenades. I was exactly 6'' away, and he rolled exactly 6'' for scatter. (this was before the days of minusing your bs). back in his direction. Bye bye Abadon.
the lesson is, be careful. and for gods sake uses weighted dice for scatter rolls.

Sly already has it in his profile Aeon. So it isn't that expensive point wise

I meant demo charges in general (they're 10+10 points for a special weapon squad) and besides, one shot from a demo charge will kill him, so you better get lucky...

Demo charges are one hit wonders. and the chance of it scattering back at him isn't THAT huge, considering the sheer power of the thing!

Besides, doesn't Sly have BS 5 or something? Do we really need to worry about scattering much?

I absolutly love Marbo, as his rules can be used to represent almost any Rambo type character. I should have a one on one game with Marbo vs Callidus....
And he gets a demo charge!?!?!?!?!? That's it, I want to field him NOW.
For modeling, can we just soup up a guardsman to make him/her look awesome?

Get an Arnold look-alike head, cut some notches in a power sword, and covert a lasgun w/ the wire stock together w/ a boltgun. He's not too fancy a guy.

I just realized that he's got a demo charge today. We've been discussing how naff he is at my club, but now I think that he's gonna see some use toasterating broadsides, terminators, and nobs.
By the emperor he will kill nobs.

That demo charge scares me, I roll terrible for scatter. Just seems more reliable to use his ripper pistol...

The ripper pistol can only kill one model though. The thing about the demo charge is that he has ballistic skill of five. So he fries himself sometimes. Big deal. Most of the time he'll hit bang on target.
He's only 60 something points, and he's a guardsman. He's expendable.

starwoof: he is by no means expendable! He's a freakin' one man army! (hence the title!) he's far too expensive and lethal to be expendible!
