I know that we're all anticipating the new codex's release, but does anyone know of any rumors pertaining to a Warhammer or Warhammer 40k movie?
I know that Exile films was planning that whole "Bloodquest" CGI crap, but does anybody know of other cases of a GW produced movie?
I must know.

Didn't they make a movie back in the day about titans? I saw it on youtube. Had some guy that looked like an officer talking to a adeptus mechnicus guy about a titan, then a huge pair of doors with the Adeptus Mechnicus sign on them open to let a titan out.

well, there was a fan made one which GW didn't want them to go through with, and the only bit that was released on the tube, was pretty badly done. The only way they could make the marine, marine sized was to put him on a ramp behind others.

Besides, I have a feeling that a 40K movie would never be nearly as good as we think it would be.

There are a few things that must happen for a 40K movie to be good.
1. It must be a Pixar-quality 3D animated picture. It must look like it is all existing in the same world. If I'm looking a human actors, human actors CG'd into Space Marines, and CGI Orkz, I'm going to lose interest quick. 2. It must not be afraid of the grimdark. I want to see limbs severed by chainswords, whole platoons crushed under the feet of Titans, Slaaneshi daemonettes gutting people while giving them awesome orgasms, and other depressing grimdark things. I do NOT want to see Saving Private Ryan...IN SPACE! 3. It must have only a few well-known actors, and NONE of them can be younger than 50 years old. Cameos can be made in a tasteful manner, i.e. Alan Alda can be a Medicae official, R. Lee Ermey can be a Catachan Sergeant, etc. 4. There must be more than one movie! We can't do the Dark Crusade thing and pack all the races/factions into one movie. This will leave little time for even the most rudimentary of backstories. Speaking of which... 5. This is NOT a superhero origin movie. We will NOT go into exquisite detail of the background of Sisters of Battle. For the newbies, catch them up to 'Nuns...WITH FIRE!' and then move on to the story. Speaking of which... 6. Any and all people who work on this movie must have all memories of 'Star Wars' wiped from their minds. This is not a fantasy about redemption and hope. This is a movie that is meant to make us thankful to live in 009.M3. This is meant to be so hopeless, so depressing, so damn dark that it's almost funny.

There were some short VHS movies produced by GW back in the day. The acting and special effects were terrible. For the life of me I can't remeber the name of it. One was about a Dark Angels squad and an Inquisitor checking out some ruin. Another was about some spacewolf termies in a hive city infested with genestealers. I'm sure you can find it on you tube.

Actually there was an attempt to produce a 40k Fan film a few years ago in Germany. I think that it was in 2004, the film was called Damnatus and was about an Inquisitorial team investigating some cult. It looked like a standard fan film, but it had some potential. Unfortunately just before it was released (After it was completely shot and produced mind you.) GW's legal department rather inexplicably decided to axe the movie using IP laws, which aside from ending the movie also enraged the fan film community in general and has caused an enormous amount of concern that other game companies would do likewise, killing most game based fan films before they get started (A notable exception to this is Operation Chastity, a Halo Fan Film with a LOT of potential.).
I'd love for there to be a 40k movie, GW has successfully ventured into all other forms of media thus far so its only logical that they would do so. Personally I think that a better job would be done making a miniseries of multiple independent stories to show the scope and diversity of the 40k world. And things need to be R, definitely R.

On the case of damnatus, it was there own fault, GW said no, yet they made it any way, and were surprised when GW still said no when they'de finished making it. Besides it looked crap, the imperial gaurd are much better than the inquisition for a film. And everything noble wolves has said is true, only the 41st millenium is'nt depressing, it's kool.

If I did a 40k movie I would have it 'dirty dozen' style, sort of like in the commado's rp. But the cast slightly more ecclectic.
anyone seen 'The 13th Warrior'? sort of like that for cast. and feel to it. Obviouly darker, but its quite a good feel for the time they're depicting.

GW has successfully ventured into all other forms of media You mean those terrible video games that don't stick to the fluff and whose plots were written by six year olds? (lol, I can kill a valkyrie with a pulse rifle? Storm troopers carry autoguns? An Emperor Battleship with no strike craft that can't kill a tau cruiser? A chapter of space marines disobeying the orders of a lord general and segmentum command and killing a regiment of loyal guardsmen not being purged by the inquisition? An inquisitor of the ordo malleus, who's killed demons before, willfully giving his demonhammer to a space marine to do the job for him?)

Well... Technically speaking, a pulse rifle can kill a Valk in one hit if you hit rear armor and get very lucky...
See, this is why I don't want to see a 40K movie ever be made. Their track record isn't exactly the best.

What about a tv series revolving around a veteran squad of guardsmen? Like a tribute to Gaunts ghosts, or Scheafer's last chancers? Think an adult-oriented live action GI Joe, except with all the violence and gore intact. Some of the marketing would still be intact as well, since they are trying to sell a product... Oh! And you could have a commissar doing the PSA's at commercial breaks. That last part was for a chuckle, for those of you who are old enough to remember the PSA's from GI Joe and Transformers... "Now you know." "And knowing is half the battle!"

Gah! It burns my eyes! I stopped watching three minutes in, because that was a lame ass orbital bombardment. Come on, it looked like the clouds were void shields or something.
As for animation, it would have to be, a human and a SMurfs head could not be the same size. who here has seen the DoW 2 opener? That was bad ass.
Here: This is the best you'll get from me ;D. Dark yet not disturbing. If a 2-3 hour film could be made of this quality, the I'd say it would be good.
As for multiple movies, yes, they'd have to. But instead of having one main chapter or regiment fighting every xenos out there, they could have different chapters, different regiments, and even different species in separate movies.
My Two Cents.

probably not much, but meh , and the screenplay is just the script but I will try to keep the good bits and the ESSENTIALS, in there, unlike so many adaptations. also, I had a thought. What if WETA did the work for the Smurfs. (did LOTR props, and also did the accesories costumes for the Halo shorts, such as the Brute (the size issue has been solved )
