Maybe The Norse could be the new race? They all speak like the Chef off The Muppets, and charge with their horned helmets which we know weren't-real-but-hey-it's-a-stereotype-we-can-use-in-the-game kinda way. Instead of phasing out, there's a risk they could all just get drunk on tankards of mead and fall over. They have a special animosity toward Space Wolves and say things like 'Hey, you are too mooch like uz!' to them. Their ships look like longboats, and in place of engines, they just lean over the side and row space using ion-oars.
Ah...stereotypes.
Maybe the new race will be Lizardmen? They'd fit the fluff, they're the oldest race in Warhammer, it's established they're space-faring, and the thought of popping ribbiting frog-men with explosive bolter rounds is too much fun to comprehend.
Really though, I don't know what angle hasn't been covered as far as a gameplay niche goes, or as far as a species concept goes. We got plenty of shooty races, plenty of assault races. With the last few codecies, they've really got to grips with making existing races unique, competitive, exciting, versatile and dynamic, and there's still more who need desperately need updating. We need more outright bad guys, so come on Dark Elves!
And 'Crons have a fantastic backstory, I think their aesthetic and concept does not get enough credit, and they just feel great as a truly evil, menacing, hateable bad guy force. They're merciless, incomprehensible, and almost supernaturally powerful. Anyone facing them, from a fluff perspective, just looks like they're facing inevitable doom. That's what you want from an enemy! It's just that their rules have some crippling flaws at the moment that must be sorted out.

Much like Space Marines, I hope the Necron are never as powerful in their rules as they are in their fluff. Boy howdy, that'd be some pretty wacky crazy talk right there.

That would equal Necrons win every game. Awesome, but at the same time, I want the Imperium to win.

Well, if you read the fluff in the Necron codex, it looks as though the standard gauss flayer would ignore armor saves. And the heavy gauss cannon would work like a vanq on a jetbike platform... no one would ever destroy a 'lith short of orbital bombardment (and Necrons do field more than one at a time, on occasion), and would be able to teleport all their crap all over the place. Every 'broken' warrior would re-assemble, and wraiths would be nigh unstoppable. Entire marine squads would be wiped-out by scarabs alone. No mortal force would ever win in the presence of the deceiver...
That's just a start. Forget a new race! Get the ones we have fixed for 5th ed!

A single Imperial Guardsman is more than a match for a dozen of these vile Necron abominations. Their simple minds and weak armor are no match for a well trained soldier of the Emperor. Bash them apart like the scrap metal they are.

on the squat note, has anyone questioned how they managed to get themselves eaten by a Tyranid Hive Fleet. When they are at the Galactic Core, which is close to Terra... yet the Solar System hasn't felt the first tendrils yet?

It was magical wraith nid's that did it. They could only eat Squats though, so they teleported to the Squat homeworld, ate them all, then died out from starvation because they had exhausted their diet in one fell swoop.

More GW propaganda. Apparently their solution to snubbing an army is "Tyranids ate them."

Maybe someone have already suggested this, but my internet's awful tonight so looking through everything would probably take 30 minutes.
But it'd be nice to have some kind of Mercenaries codex. A collection of odd mercenaries you could use as allies. Kroots, human raiders, Blood Axes, rogue traders, I'm sure they could put together a nice list out of it. I guess models are a problem though, personally I naturally wouldn't dream of using any of the mercenaries as themselves and so don't need any new minis, but GW would need to make a new range if they wanted to sell the codex. Overall Codex: Mercenaries would be an awesome addition for players who want to add diversity or sneak in some counts-as troops, but doesn't quite fit for a blockbuster release.
Still, I'd be overjoyed. =D

Makarova seems right on the money with this; I'd love the idea of introducing mercs and misfits in general in a single codex, with rules on what army can use which units as allies and what entry type will they occupy in their FOC as well as their own FOC to represent an entire mercenary force fighting. Such a codex would probably include all fluff misfits, like less chaotic mutants, Rogue traders, aliens like the Hrud and, dare I mention these,... S... Ss... SQUATS! Whef, there, said it...
Good idea Makarova!

Thank you! =)
A second idea is to bring in Codex: Cults of Chaos. A book that combines mad cultists, traitor Guard, lesser daemons, mutans and a minor detachment of Chaos Marines. My brother already wrote a great Cult book. If you look at how Chaos really operate, there's a lot of cult work going on, and especially I think it's awful that we only have Chaos Marines and Daemons to represent Chaos on the board, I mean how common are entire armies of those?

Agreed! Chaos Guard! Lost and the Damned! Blood Pact! As much as I hate the vile traitors and enemies of the Emperor, that's a pretty long overdue army for the game, new race or not.
The crazy part of it is they were so close to doing it with the Eye of Terror codex and then abandoned the whole thing.

special rules for my traitor guardsmen would be pretty neat...
but the standard IG dex can always be used to make a rabble of traitors.

This is true, and someone with a big wallet can grab the awesome Traitor Guard models off Forge World for spice. I'd just like to see an entire GW plastic range and, as you say, specific rules. That'd greatly increase the number of Chaos Guard players to be more representative of their presence in the fluff.

watt about a codex dedacated to some of the necrons that maby dident want to give up there fleshey bodys for metal ones
and necrons have good armor and they are very strong
the onley thing is that they are slow so it is posabel to wack them before they respond the key to beating them is to get into close combat with them and use your atack to shove a windows vista boot disk into there mouth they will just stop working for a wile and they can just be used as cover

That'd greatly increase the number of Chaos Guard players to be more representative of their presence in the fluff. Thing is, Traitor Guard is just a small fraction of the Lost and Damned forces. If you just want an army of Chaos Guardsmen it's easy to use the normal codex, but there isn't much of an option if you want to include mutants, daemons, cultists or other wierdo things. There's just so much that can't be covered by the CSM and IG codexes.
