Finished reading How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming. Short and fairly basic, but good nonetheless. It delves into the fact that astronomers are actually a pretty fractious bunch.
Also finished the first Beka Cooper book, from Tamora Pierce's Tortall series. On my plate - the first book of the second Percy Jackson series, and a biography of Admiral Collingwood, who was Nelson's second-in-command.

Man we'd be at 2,000 pages for this if a certain Britbong had not deleted 250 pages of the thread.

Today was medical procedure day. First I got stuck with tuberculosis antigen (I need to provide a current negative TB test for a teaching job that I'm applying for). I then had a clean result on an EKG which now has my doctor feeling far less concerned about the chest pains I've recently been experiencing. It's likely the irritation of the cartilage where my ribs meet my sternum flaring up again. I pointed out the spots where the pain was occurring, and then winced and said "ow" at the appropriate points during the palpation of my chest that the doctor performed. However, having a transformer several blocks down the road from my doctor's office overload, explode, and take out the power for the immediate area where my doctor's office is (Reds, Aeon, and I used to drive by it all the time back in the Dark Heresy days) between the two procedures made doing the latter procedure a tricksy proposition. Doc wants me to try taking Aleve for a week, and to check back if the pains don't subside.

Hope your chest pains go away, Trooper.
You mean 'power station' rather than 'transformer' taking out the leccy?

Hope your chest pains go away, Trooper. You mean 'power station' rather than 'transformer' taking out the leccy? Here in the Colonies the power station is what generates dem sparky fingz dat make da zappy bitz wurk, while da transformer is what steps the voltage up (or down) so that it can actually be used once those yummy-yummy electrons make it to their destination. Or at least I think datz how da Mekz 'splained it to me once... And yeah, the Aleve actually seems to be working. Considering that I pulled an all-nighter last night, which usually leaves me feeling crushed in general, the 220 mg caplet I took around lunch actually has my joints feeling pain-free, and my chest feeling mostly un-hurty. Over the counter painkillers FTW.

And when those transformers explode, it sounds like someone got really enthusiastic with some antique field gun.

So this is a regular occurrence? In my opinion the evil badgers (in alliance with squirrels and other ne'er-do-wells) are sabotaging your power grid infrastructure for their own nefarious ends.

Well, my doctor's office relocated at the start of last year to its current location. However, I can't recall ever having been anywhere but my own home and having the power go out due to a transformer failing. Used to happen all the time by my parents' house, and one time when I was a teenager the transformer on the pole at the edge of our neighbor's second lot (which was essentially a bamboo forest) exploded so spectacularly it actually set the bamboo and leaf litter on fire, and the fire department had a bit of a time putting it out.

Req: The scallops did not outflank my face. They disappeared right down my mouth hole, and were most delicious. McCaptain: I think it would be fair and accurate to say that the Michael Bay Transformers films BLOW.
