I think that later models corrected that, but yeah, it was one of the many failings of the initial Shermans. Later ones, like the Easy Eight model, were actually pretty damn good tanks all things considered.

I think they fixed it for the commander's .30 caliber machine gun for sure, but if an extra .30 or .50 was mounted (like on Fury) they still had that problem of someone having to stand on the rear deck to man it.

This might be of interest to people here. It's a series of stories of an all guardsmen group in Dark Heresy, the characters having been created in Only War and converted over in one of the more interesting ways I've heard of.

Happy b-day Adken! Hookers, ice cream...you know the drill. Also, I saw FURY recently. I direct these questions to the historians in the Underhive. Is that REALLY what tank commanders did? Did they really have their heads outside of the tank like that? I ask because my grandfather was a tank commander and I've already considered him an admirable man and to add the kind of stones it would take to have your head out like that is just...wow. There are two schools of tank commanding: Ivan: Remain inside turret. Commander is safe. Sacrifice all-around vision for safety. Desert Rat: Keep head outside of turret. Sacrifice possibly chance of being clipped by machinegun or shellfire for a better chance of not getting killed by an ambush, which will kill everyone in the tank. Call centre work. It pays for the minis but by god it's so temporary. I d even c if they make me tenured, I am fornicateing off to the RN the moment this police investigation clears up.

Just to make the Ivan version all that more exciting, Russian tanks lacked radios for much of the war, making coordination even harder.

Today my computer decided that it hated me, the .NET framework, Visual C++ Redist and any and all attempts to install things.

Today I noticed with amusement that the Drop/Fail/Withdraw/Major change rate of computer scientists/engineers in my college is comparable to the casualty rates experienced by your typical Imperial Guard regiment.

Gimme a shout before you get sent down to bovi for some sort of training and we'll go for a drink We have RNSR and tons of classroom courses going on all the time so im sure you'll be down some time. Sorry for late reply, I dont get time to come online, lol. Ice cream but no hookers rook All modern tanks still have a dude poking out the top just not when in combat.

Dang, I was just about to post this (discovered it a few days ago -- oddly, on Friendship is Dragons). It's really good.

The snow is starting to win against the ground. Now there's a layer of wet slush. Soon, it will be a 1/2 inch sheet of ice, and then we will all die.
And between then and this edit was all it took for everything to turn white since it's not melting anymore. This is a global environmental catastrophe. It's kill or be killed, every man for himself. Commence the looting.

Every cat for itself, as well. Think about the poor, naked moggies too.
I nearly died without frost or snow, it was bad enough with a sudden plummet in temperature, a grade zero hair shave and some strong wind.

That's why you have to build giant walls around your area. The wind will make you want to loot all the lightbulbs from peoples' porch lights.

Did they find evidence for a cause yet? Not that I've heard. A friend of mine is pretty pissed off because she works for Orbital as an engineer and would have been on the investigation team except for the fact that she recently pooped out a small human being and is on maternity leave. However, I'm fairly sure that the problem is in the refurbished Soviet Cold War-era engines that would being used, as (IIRC) the Soviets lost many rockets that used the same engine design...

That's not because of the snow. I'll employ some Ferguson logic: It's all whitey's fault. Snow is white. It's the snow's fault.
