Hi, I´ve always liked the Hellhound, but have never been thinking about getting one myself. But a few months ago, I saw anoterh Imperial Guard friend, fry a Beakie-players Squads and I really like what I saw.
What do you think about it..? It´s still a bit expensive for a AV12 tank, but if you have a number of armoured vehicles around, I guess it can stay alive long enough to burn some heretics. Or the other way around, draw some fire from the Russes... ;D
I´m thinking about getting one with extra armour, smoke launchers and a pintle-mounted heavy stubber, seems like a decent unit, no..?

I've never used them as they just seem too vunrable. My LR demol always seems to last so I'm not really bothered about drawing fire from it.

The other way around then..? ;D It seems studry enough (the Hellhound), if you have Av14 vehicles as well and the range seems quite nice (effectively 30" on the Inferno Cannon and 42" on the Heavy Bolters and Heavy Stubber)? I´ll try it out and let you know how it goes.

OK.
How many points are you playing? I normaly play 1000 - 1500 and there's just too many other things I try and squeeze in like an extra russ or a bassy.

I've been considering these, I've not much in the fast attack catagory at all, and I tend to field 2 or 3 russes in my armies (or a russ and 2 demolishers) so I'd be interested to find out how they play too, would be an interesting addition to my tank armies...

I´m thinking about using it in the larger games, along with 3 Russes...

hellhounds are great, they used to be crap but now are really solid fast attack units with a dreadful amount of firepower

I will almost certainly get 2 then... ;D An Imperial Guard friend used to use one to great effect in 2nd Ed. against me. I usually took it out (in close combat) but at a great cost. Especially when it blew up with a 2D6" explosion, causeing S6 hits with a -4 save modifier... In 3rd Ed. they didn´t seem great at all, just fragile..? Now, it seems really useful again, and I´ve mostly seen my friend (same old one ) toast other friends units, everything from Space Marines to Grots... ;D As I don´t have any Fast Attack yet (might get a Sentinels Squadron), I might save up some money and buy 2 right away.

yeah I've been tempted with buying some hellhounds too - they got such a great rules revision with 4th edition that it's hard to resist buying some (the only detractor is that now they're $45, only $5 less than a land raider! >_<

It´s almost as expensive as a Land Raider here as well, bu the UK Online Store seems to charge 20 (and not 25£) for it! ;D

Good idea, was some time since I checked ebay... ;D
If I afford it, I will also get those new Forge World extra armour plates, should look really cool on Hellhounds. Fit their "image" prefectly, in my opinion, especially as they have thicker side armour.
Saw my friend use his Hellhound twice, in 2 2000p games, this weekend. It rocked! First against vanillia Space Marines (IG won) and then against Death Guards (IG lost).

Nah... They look okay to me, but it´s one of the few Forge World models I don´t "adore" I think... Still prefer the old, stock one...

oh my god i just fielded one in my last game and lordie they are strong. they auto hit everything under the template on a 4+ and in case they miss that they roll for every model under the template.
with an incredible template weapon they have toasted many an enemy with ease. allthough it dies easy, its more than capapble of making its points back against tau, eldar, ig, orks, nids, and anything else.
get a chimera and just order the metal bits caint be more than 40 usd anyway.
just get one and your life will be better im taking 3 to the hardboyz semi finals.

my take on hellhounds is that they're bullet magnets that, if you get them in range, are great 50% of the time. the other 50% is mediocre in my experience. still, they're vastly improved compared to the old hellhounds of 3rd edition! what I'm really looking forward to is the hellhammer superheavy. instakills marines, armor save negating, cover save negating, 7" template.....holy cow. it's the hellhound on crack. anyway, returning to the hellhound - yeah... I love frying me some eldar with it

I was planning on teaming it with 2 hellhounds and a demolisher for close support

Colonel Frost, report to the duty commissar for 'a little chat' immediately! col. frost hasn't been around since like 3 years ago or something. when I first started IG and had a 400pt combat patrol made that I was painting on, after the eye of terror campaign, he was around. then I started playing with my IG and got beat so bad I took a break from 40k and played WoW for like... a year. when I came back he was gone I was planning on teaming it with 2 hellhounds and a demolisher for close support that sounds like a good idea! very strong flank and you'll force your opponent to choose which target to shoot at cuz they ALL must die typically.
