I'd be careful with that conclusion old chap.
I'd read "This WILL include various IG Regiments" as two different ones. Our old pals Cadians and Catachans. Doing all the others in plastic, could happen in time I suppose. I suspect by the time that happens we'll be playing 28th "Zero G" Edition and rolling meta-physical conceits instead of dice.
Ultimately the plan is to have "everything" available in plastic, with resin special characters. That was the ultra long time forecast I heard reported. I'd expect that means just the stuff currently in the shops. It does leave a future in the balance for the current metal figures if they really did do away with the metal casting section.

Oh, so that's what it means? Shoot. Well, I suppose I could be optimistic about it, and think that they might, oh they just might, put that stuff into plastic... but this is GW. Optimism is anathema to them. Well, this means I'll have to up the ante if I'm going to have my mushed-together regiment...

Optimism or "Doing the impossible". Producing all plastic variants would take up 100% of their plastic manufacturing resources for the next 4-5 years. To produce plastic Mordians and Tallarns, which - in all likelihood - wouldn't actually sell.
No point complaining that they are unable to deliver the moon on a stick.

I know Plastic Steel Legion would sell, and maybe Valhallans, but Mordians, Vostroyans, and Tallarns may not do as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw plastic versions of the troops of some of the other regiments, but I think that would be it. Cadians and Catachans are almost 100% Plastic now, so that's why I'm thinking they may move into another regiment.

I concur with reds-- plastic Steel Legion or plastic DKK would sell. I'd certainly buy one or the other.
And no, you should not doubt that they'd be willing to convert a forgeworld model to games-workshop plastic. They would gladly do that if they thought they could make money off of it.

True, which is why I'm not ruling DKoK out, but I think that GW would choose Steel Legion over them, simply so they didn't render an entire range of FW Models obsolete.
Something like Steel Legion makes sense, though. Most people play Cadians because they're plastic, and look like a real army. The people who play Catachans more often then not choose the range to have a "non-Cadian" army, rather than because they like the look.
So, the issue with Cadians is that "Everyone plays them" and the issue with Catachans is "They don't look like a real army". Steel Legion would provide a nice middle ground, offering a Non-Cadian army that still looks like a proper army, instead of a Tae-Bo class on steroids that got handed lasguns.

plastic Steel legion and DKoK in the same box might be possible with a little redesign of the coats...or at the very least make the DKoK available from forgeworld as conversion packs.
Heck if you tossed some Valhallan heads in there you could have them too!

I think my catachans with cadian heads look alright...
still obcenely muscular but with a military feel.
the rank and file Catachans look more like the Governator...
only Marbo gets to be Rambo.

Though having had a bit more of a think about it, it's not that tall an order. The only things that need to change are 3 boxes per regiment (Infantry, Heavy Weapons and Command) If they were clever they could slip a few tank commander bits into one of those too. With that little commitment, it might well be possible to fit one regiment into the release schedule every year. Great coat guard have been rumoured for donkey's years, so I guess we can expect to see them at some point. Still a lot of basic stuff due before that I fear.
Still think the law of diminishing returns would kick in to thwart all regiment variants getting done...
As for Forge World kits, there's already plenty of precedence for units leaping out of the pages of Imperial Armour and into Codex. Our new tanks/aircraft for one and a chunk of the (semi) recent Tau releases too.
Forge World have proven to be a good sandbox for establishing what the public want.

Yeah, it would really be those three kits, and bang, you have a Plastic Regiment. Even the Tank Commanders aren't necessary, as you could just put a random head with the old Commander body.
I'm still dubious of DKoK, since it's a big money maker for FW, and they've invested so much into building up the range. I think they would be happy to let that stay as a major cash cow for FW, especially given that there are other, non-FW regiments they could do. It would be better to have a well-selling range from FW AND a new IG range that don't conflict, after all.
Still, I'm not ruling out the possibility.

Also DKoK would really need their own Heavy Weapon sprue (as opposed to simply changing the gunners like you could with the others). Which would make them more costly than the other variants. Same goes for Elysisans and potentially Steel Legion though I guess.
Certainly I'd like to see more lightweight looking ones for the Mechanised guys.

If they make another plastic regiment, I'd have to agree that Steel legion or Valhallans seem most likely. Tallarns would be cool, but they have the same problem that Catachans have, that they look rather out of place in the majority of war zones. I don't no which I'd prefer to see, Steel legion or Valhallans. They both have their merits. |

I'd prefer Steel Legion, for GW's sake, at least, because they have the most fluff, they have an SC in the new 'dex (it's new really 'new' anymore, though  , and more people like them. I would do Valhallans, though. |

Although Cain isn't a Valhallan character technicly, it's commented that he spent so damn much time with them that he might as well have been. I would even get a few squads of valhallans to accompany him, and convert a Jurgen.

Just as an aside - when I got the new armoured sentinel, one of the configurations was called "Steel Legion". Just strikes me as unusual to have that bold as brass in a model kit.

Just as an aside - when I got the new armoured sentinel, one of the configurations was called "Steel Legion". Just strikes me as unusual to have that bold as brass in a model kit. Well, the thing about that is, there is an Armageddon Pattern Sentinel. Which is the Sentinel with Lascannon. That kit was around with the last edition codex, along with the Mars Pattern (Multi-Laser), Cadian Pattern (Autocannon) and Catachan Pattern (Heavy Flamer). They were all different box sets, now it's just one set for all of them. |
