Once again through the magic of a yearly subscription I have managed to lay my hands on a copy of the October issue of White Dwarf.
This issue deals mainly with the forth-coming Space Wolves codex. However the articles seem to be more fluff than rules oriented s o there's not much in here which hasn't already been covered in the 'New Space Wolves Codex' thread.
Certain Space Wolf characters can take 'sagas' as wargear, granting them special bonuses, for example the Saga of the Beastslayer grants re-rolls to hit against walkers, MCs and models with T5 or greater. On the flipside the character must endeavor to seek out these opponents as soon and often as he can. Doesn't say what the penalty for not seeking out these foes is though... probably just the fact that it'll be a waste of an upgrade...
Wolf Guard terminators can elect at the start of a battle to lead a pack of blood claws, bikers, grey hunters, scouts or long fangs.
On the LOTRsbg front there's the release of some new evil units and models from harad, the east and elsewhere. If anybody cares the models look pretty swanky but it is LOTR, so I'm not sure if anyone plays it here...
There's an article on Fantasy Battle heroes, fluff and tactics etc.
Then a Space Wolf vs Chaos Daemons battle report, I've not got round to reading it yet but as soon as I do I'll be sure to inform you if anything exciting happens... (Oh, a runepriest kills a Great Unclean one of Nurgle in one turn with 'Jaws of the World Wolf' apparently MCs take their initative tests against JotWW at -1...)
Finally there's some nice vintage model and expert terrain showcases.
Next month promises good news for those followers of the Horned Rat as the Skaven are getting a new army book.
Now let's hope this topic doesn't devolve into a violent kidnapping like the last one, or that it does, whatever floats your boat.

Wolves vs. Daemons. Wow! I can't wait to read this one.
Greater Daemon defeated by Jaws of the world Wolf?

That kidnapping wasn't violent...

It was violent in comparison to a discussion about a WD magazine...
I'm just reading the battle report now...
The daemons get 4 greater daemons (one for each power) and the SW gets 4 heroes, including two Special Characters (wolf riding bloke and Njal Stormcaller.)
In turn one the Great Unclean One (which I believe has around 10 wounds?) is instantly destroyed by JotWW. Although I did misread it previously; it's actually easier for a MC to survive JotWW as they +1 to the test. Either way seems like an ability to avoid/exploit like the plague...
The power 'The Tempest's Wrath' was used a lot too, it causes all deep striking units, skimmers, jetbikes and jump infantry moving within 24" of the caster to move as though they are in difficult terrain.
Blood Claws cannot shoot at a target which is within assault range.
No two Wolf Guard of HQ units in a single SW army can have the same wargear/sagas. So all SW heroes have to be WYSISYG.
Neither of the players were being all that tactical so it makes for a fairly enjoyable battle report all in all.

It sounds quite worrying. A mate who collects SW is going to have Njal and Logan Grimnar in his army. The fact that you can have an all Termie army with Logan is also disturbing.

Not against guard and their demolishers and executioners. Hail: Hammer of the Emperor!

Depends how fast his Land Raider Crusader gets to unload termies and then assault me straight away. If the SW get to go first, then I'll be naked, up sh*t creek, in a barbed wire canoe.

If your opponent is trying to do that, you clearly aren't fighting him in an imaginatively aggressive enough fashion.

I'd likely screen my lines with chimeras and hope to intercept, then level the bigs guns in that direction and wait...

Not sure what I'd do with Nids, I don't really have the range to take down a Runepriest without exposing myself to JotWW, maybe I'll try swamping him with Gaunts, the spell only works in a straight line right? So with some clever positioning I can reduce my losses.

Flank him with stealers! (Note: when it comes to Nids this is my answer to just about any situation...)

*Ambles in, holding a crate of beer as protection against the horrors of Disney*
Gah.....urrrgh. Anyways, Req, when your done, my buddies just flew Galatea in. I'm sure we can finally convince Ymmot that co-operating is in his best interests.....

Sweet mercy, not another direct to video sequel!
*writhes in torment.*
I smell smoke...
My eyeballs are burning!!
*tries to turn his head in the direction of Rolling Thunder despite the fact he knows that he cannot.*
For really? Ooh...Well shucks, bring her in here...she might actually like this stuff. Her laughter will soothe my pain.
I'll behave, I promise.
*struggles feebly against his bonds.*
Honest!

Do you think me that fooled, Rocketman. Even as we speak, Galatea is being prepared for the process of Acro-Flagellation. Now, I'm afraid we can't let you move, but I can record your goodbye message for her to listen.

*twitch*
Is that so...
*clicks his teeth together as his upper lip begins to quiver and curl into a repulsive seer.*
That would be unwise.
*His eyes rollback and his flesh begins to smolder, his complexion dulling to a pallid sickly grey as waves of heat curl and wither his surrounding in a palpable manifestation of hatred that ignites the ground around him in low steady flames, crackling black as dark ashen smoke begins to fill the air.*
My cooperation requires that she remain whole, unharmed, and unaltered in any way...failure to comply with my terms will result in dire consequences.
*He trembles in his chair and the screen in front of him goes black.*
Alal Alla Xul Alal...
Idimmu Maskim Xul Alal.
*his mouth moved but he did not speak, for the words originated from somewhere else.*

Apollyon, he calls out to me. *this last phrase and the nonsense that preceded it is spoken from his own mouth, his voice bitter and full of malice.*
Reconsider I beg you, reconsider before it is too late.
My mind is poison, my body a vessel for malevolence...dark things dwell within me.
It is my will alone that keeps them from coming out, do not rob me of the one thing I continue fighting for.
(*Derails the topic with a sledgehammer.*)

*Ymmot's evil twin Yammot enters the scene, together with Ymoot, and Pontius Glaw*
Glaw - WE DEMAND.. Yammot - THE RELEASE... Ymoot - ..OF YMMOT, PLEASE!
*Glaw is armed with a portable missile launcher, Ymoot with a Demolisher pistol, and Yammot with a Deathstrike missile on one arm, and an eviscerator on the other*
*music from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly plays in the background.*

*Contemptuously draws out the Naval Pistol and snaps a trio of shots at the interrupting troika. The empty, snap-snap clicks sound ring in the silence, hollow and loud as the Bell of Lost Souls as the hammer crashes down onto nothingness. A moment passes, like the darkling wing of some hideous bird, and the three are engulfed by a monstrous, incandescent coloumn of purest, white fury, burning away their very souls in a thunderflash of power hotter and more terrible than creation itself.*
"Ha. Ha. Ha. How amusing indeed" he said, and, once again, that unholy, godless power had crept over him, blackest maleficence crackling across his words like the tongues of darkest lightning that acred and danced from his black-clad form.
"Now, King of the erstwhile Rocketmen.....do not play games, and do not bluff on no hand. Co-operate, and I might even be tempted to leave her alive. Resist, and I assure you, Kasson will no more think of Galatea's humanity as he would that of any other victim when squeezes that trigger."

Alive and unaltered, those are my terms... everything else means nothing to me.
*Black ichor oozes from his eyes and dribbles from the corners of his mouth as he smiles, his gaze far off and distant, his pupils subtly tracking movement that isn't there as he watches invisable phantoms summersault through the air.*
You're rage is fiery and filled with hate...
but my wrath is cold and indifferent, everything shall suffer, everything will wither and die.
So... I have set my price, comply with my request and let us move away from this confrontation.
On to bigger and better things.

*Walks back into room to check on ymmot. Sees that the TV is broken, three piles of ash rest by the door, and RT is inside with a crate of beer at his feet.
ymmoT is drooling thick, black blood, and foamy spittle forms a moat of sorts around the chair.*
Really? My TV...
*Looks from one to the other, and back again. Heaves an exasperated sigh., shrugs, and begins to attempt fixing the TV.*

Oh, what happened to the movie? C'mon...I wanna see the ending of Bambi II!
By the way...
weren't we just talking about White Dwarf?

Right, best save the rest for the underhive I think...
So...new WD comes out in stores in how long exactly?

The rest of us non-suscribers have to wait now until the issue is released. For some reason my local newsagent gets WD a day before GW store.
