Why doesnt anyone ever use rough riders? I think they are a good squad they got the plus 2 for S and I. The only down side is they only get it when they charge and can only use it for 1 turn. Thats if they have the hunting lance tho. But think about a squad that moves 6 and in shooting phase can move another 6 if lucky and can assult 12. With I 5 and S 5!!! Got a 5 man squad of them that 16 attacks plus they count as power weapon!!! ;D Tell me if you think they are or arent a good 5 man squad for any army for only 66pt.

They are good but you must remember with the guard that its more of a quantity over quality. However I do use them and have had some success.

True but its always a good thing when termies or hive tyrant comes your way and you got something to kill it with in CC. Or even a night bringer you can kill in CC! Rather than shot it up why chop it up and use them guns to wipe the floor with is troops rather than his HQ! Thats something the guard cant do with out because they dont got anything better to deal with them kinda advisaries in CC! They are the best the guard got for close combat its kinda sad but its the truth. Just remember the plus 2 I and S is only for 1 turn. For 66pts you got 16 power weaopn S 5 attacks! Hit on 4 plus and wound on 3-5 depend on the advisery but thats still good compared to a Heroic officer! Death to all who oppose the Guard!

When playing with my Praets I never leave home without at least a 5 man squad with Hunting Lances and Veteran Sergeant, 61pts is a bargain for a hard hitting counter assault unit - personnly I dont understand why anyone (except for background reasons) would not take em!

Useful hints for people who use Rough Riders. The Revised Rules state that horse steer themselves, so Rough Riders gain the normal +1 attack bonus from additional close combat weapons. Also if the Rough Riders are charged, they may use the Hunting Lance. They will not get the Strength or Initative bonus but will count as having power weapons. Hope this helps anyone who uses Rough Riders.

Hmmmmm
I've been thinking about doing some Cadian RR's on bikes. Looks like I'll have to give them a try.

Rider and Raider are both correct spellings which is why I put the raider in brackets. They just mean different things
I didn't know if you meant -Squig Rider or Squig Raider.

I won a load of SM bikes off ebay so I'm gonna be chopping and changing.
RR's on horses didn't realy fit in my army but having them on bikes will be cool.

I dont actually use RR but a good combination (i reckon) is full size with shotguns and flamers
Get close in, flame and shoot up the enemy, then assault.
burn...Burn...BURN!!!!!
P.S- Yes i am a pyromaniac, thats why i like Hellhounds ;D

Sounds okay, but the Hunting Lance seems even better, S5, I5, 3A on the charge, and they´re power weapons! That´s generally what you need them for, not to shoot, the Infantry Squads can do that. However, I like shotguns and flamers, so it´s a cool idea... ;D

That is mostly the case. But in some situations having a fast-moving (infantry)unit can help immensly in some situations. specially if you dont want to buy that extra 80+ pts chimera to get that mobility.
For example have 2 riders with melta guns and go tank hunting/ or even become a head hunter unit.
Although mostly used for counter assult reaction its nice to have a bit of flexability. Im currently saving to make a 3 RR units. 2 8man lance squad and 1 6man melta bomb squad.

Rough riders with melta bombs do work very well Ive experienced but also if you attack a tanks rear armor with the value 10 and you got strength 5 you can also be able to blow the tank up 2! But seriously i hope more people use rough riders cause they're arnt allot the guard has to offer to counter enemy units. Remember folks power weapon and add 2 + for the S and In! They've saved my army from certain death from Krone before and they fought back the darkness.

I've converted cadian shock troops to rough riders on lizard man cold ones, armed them with nice long hunting lances and given them a veteran sargeant with a power sword. I've got five finished with another four on the way. I have been very pleased with their performance so far - giving them a veteran sargeant with a power sword allows them to still pack a punch after they have shot their bolt with the lances. I used this squad of 5 to annihilate 12 kroot and then went on to trash a crisis suit - not bad considering it was their first outing.

I've started assembling my catachan rough rider/cold ones and they look pretty cool IMHO. Had to do some filing to get the legs the fit snuggly and will need to bust out the green stuff but you can't have everything. Looking to have this 5 man squad finished in 2 weeks time. Will post pictures when i'm done.

My rough riders had their first outting today. On turn 3 a squad of 5 charged a squad of five dark angels with plasma cannon. Attacking first they scored 5 wounds but could only affect 4 marines as 1 wasn't engaged in the combat. Anyway the one remaining marine runs away off the table and dies. My rough riders got shot up by a lascannon and land speeders next turn, but who cares? Quite simply they rock!

lol ;D yeah rough riders do good work. I've been meaning to build some for my guard and thought I'd do Cadians on Plastic Warhammer: Empire Complete Armored Horse sets (shown below. Try to imagine it. ;D) (They would not be in medevil armour though.)

Might work, but I can see it looking incredibly bad. When you can get the money buy a box set of Cadians and 2 box sets of SMurf bikers, combined with Green Stuff, your problems are solved
