Looking good! My only suggestion would be to drill out the grenade launcher barrel (2.5mm works for me). Other than that, I like them a lot! The camo is awesome! Your bases would look cool on my gameboard

i will try and drill em out sounds like a good plan! *command and conquer lady voice* "Reinforcements have arrived, Reinforcements have arrived' the models i had are in between them. my force should have grown by, leman rus hellhound chimera 3 heavy weapon teams 20 guardsmen 1 sentinel 8 stormtroopers + the things i had i got it for a steal, but already the skills of the previous owner didnt really satisfy me (painting and modelling wise, even unmouldingwise) so ill be taking them appart where i need to and redo everything. also, i got a few models with it. but i really dont know what/who they are. pls enlighten me! i have no clue. cheers!

Those models are Space Marine Scouts, if you want you can use them as Veterans with shotguns etc...
Personally I Use the scout with the heavy bolter as a Gunnery Sergeant Harker stand in.
If you need any more help just PM me.

^ what he said, only pull their silly marine heads off and get some guard heads on there. Then they look proper beefy, like they've been putting the hours in at the gym. That's quite a good haul you got there too! How are you planning on stripping the paint off the plastics? I have also inherited a lot of models that need a total overhaul and although nail varnish remover works well on metal, I'm worried about it melting the plastic

Yeah, the dude who i bought it from said... 'well, just soak em in the nail polish remover stuff for about 30 minutes and then go and clean em with a toothbrush' but, in the end, i think ill just get the majority of the paint off with a knife and then just basecoat em. Thank god he didnt use basecoat spray. and most of the models still show grey plastic because off sloppy painting. AND the painting is actually pretty thin (in most cases) so i wont have to put so much effort in to get em clean/not losing much details. are these space marines still for sale (are they current edition?)? i think they look pretty sweet as vets! a bit beefed up and ready to kill! as soon as i get some stuff together looking nice, ill post some pics (working at heavy weapon teams now... big drama with glue stuck everywhere... thank the emporor for leaving me some spare bodies in the sprues! )

so i figured the marines still are costing 20 euros for 5 little buggers! (damn it!) i guess ill just donate them to my friends space marine force (battle for black reach force) or use them as conversionboys. they do look quite beefy and should come in handy someday. and again, a little progress. I saw this once somewhere on the net. Cutting plants from sprues. so, here are my first attempts And here they are just randomly put on some bases (not glued or painted yet) the original plan was to make the vegetation (if thats what its called) red... so my marines would actually blend in with some of the scenery. Being from a grey planet with red bushes. and mostly ducking for cover behind em should totally fit the scheme. thoughts always welcome. *quick edit: the plants look a bit... rectangular... or dont they? should this be something to 'not want to happen'? *i found the tutorial... quite nice imho www.terrainmonster.com/terrain-building/scratch-building/carving-sprue-plants

I think the plants work very well. Keep in mind, being an 'alien' plant it does not have to look like plants in real life, being square or whatever could be perfectly normal to the indigenous life.

Wow! They're crazy! Great idea! They look awesome! What colours are they going to be? red, like in war Of The Worlds?

@ 3ff3ct, red will be the colour, otherwise my camo should look really weird and @ commissar bob, they do look a bit square-ish. but i can cut the leaftips in a pointy manner. that way they look way more realistic then a square leaf just too much alien imho on another note, i finally got to greenstuffing some stuff... it aint that much and im not the best GSer arround, but for now... they'll do! I present, bison and guile. (remember, they are cadianized Streetfighter chars, to keep coherency in my army (thats a big must)) and another mini project started, guardsmam marbo is on his way! Hes kind of done, but i dont know... C&C are very very welcome! i wanted him to be the only model that would be stuck in the jungle kind of thing. Also, i wanted his stealthy-ness/move trough cover/hes behind you kind off rules to be very clear to see. Hes behind plants on a big rocky feature. that should give a nice feel on the battlefield eh? also, hes WYSIWYG, he has a kitbashed pistol kind of thing, a demolition charge (which i love... a huge pack TNT with a timer detonator on it ) and a heavy machette! still,... i dont know... he could use some more,... could be a paintjob, but could be more/less stuff on his base... C&C please!

Dude, the plants is a very good idea. And the fact that you're doing SF characters still amuses me. M. Bison needs to be horizontal on a flying stand... that'd be epic.

That's one of the best Marbo conversios I've seen, he looks absolutely awesome. THe pose is what does it for me, along with his 'have a bit of this!' expression. great stuff, get some paint on him!

AYE AYE Cap'n! this is his base as it is at the moment. Im having trouble with it... its still a big grey mass... i could give the 2 loose rocks a different kind of colour... but what colour? i dont really want to take on other colours then grey/black/red. so,... make em red? that doesnt make sense... help is greatly apreciated. as for the progres on marbo,... he didnt roll high enough on the reserves table (...YET)

Try giving it a badab black wash and a light drybrush over the top, I think the problem is that it all looks very grey in the same tone, rather than having light and dark bits. It looks a bit 'the same' all over.

Nice, nice. Especially like the plants. Really look Marsish. But from background it can't be the real Mars Mars has no more Flora and Fauna, just metal and furnaces And someone said Plasma in every squad... totally wrong for Mars. Mars actually has not that much Plasma at all as they have no good STCs for Plasma weaponry. The world that has almost endless Plasma is Ryza. They have it every where. On Skitarii, on tanks, on fliers, on superheavy tanks, on heavy tanks, on ships, just everywhere... (Leman Russ Executioner is Ryza only tank. Just Ryza has a functioning STC for it left)

@ knight, yeah,... i kind of didnt go mars anymore the models and modelling wouldnt fit in with the fluff... so i went to go for a random grey planet with red vegetation stuff... looks weird enough already and the plants are just amazing... so easy to produce! as for my marbo, tried something with the base colouring... and slapped some paint on him. Im pretty content with his eyes (being the 2nd set of eyes i ever painted) Most of the reds and blacks are done... but he still needs a lot of work!

oke, when i made these pics i saw some stuff was missing on my marbo. (small highlights for example (and a black dot on his nose) Ill be shure to put these to a correct version but, i dont want to waste the shoot i had with this awesome character! (fluffwise that is ;P) So i present to you, 95% finished marbo! so, what i still need to do; - teeth (will do that once i get experienced with that on other models.. dont want to screw this one up) - black tipped nose - highlights on the buttons off the explosive - highlights on his 'KILL' & 'DIE' text on his shoulderpads - his scope still needs to be done too I also intented to do a facial cammo,... like rambo did. But i guess ill be trying that on some other models first too before i go bannannas on sweet old marbo. So, tell me what you think! Im pleased with the result already, so it could only get better

Oke, i justed wanted to report some battle stuff here,... since i dont have a complete battle report. 750 pnt eldar vs Imperial guard - spearhead - take and hold (base defense game) My list- CCS + lascannon vox meltavets + chimera PCS + lascannon vox 2x guardsmen + grenadier, vox special weapons squad flamers heavy weapon teams mortar hellhound marbo his list, 3 wraith guards + farseer fortune, doom, spear dire avengers some other troop choise fire tank warpspiders walker with 2 shuriken cannons (i guess) the end was a draw, there would have been more in for me if marbo didnt throw his demo charge in his own face taking out himself and 3 lousy avengers... also, i couldnt hit water if a fell of a boat! i shot and hit him 3 to 5 times with lascannons on his fire prism and just couldnt even stun or damage it due to bad rolls... main point i screwed up, not taking on his wraithguards with my melta vets... i thought he had a 4+ invulnerable save on his unit, whereas only the seer had it... so that could have won me the game... stupid me... all in all, still managed to get a draw with some terrible bad luck on my side... so.. learned a lot! next time,... ill have eldar for breakfast! (if marbo wasnt such an idiot,... it might just have won the battle for me... guess he still needs to adjust to his new and improved demo pack! ) so, it was a fun game. and im glad i didnt lose and now, BACK TO PAINTING!

@ tankshock, NP on stealing the plant idea... its not even mine to begin with @ myself... quit slackin'! (okeoke) been painting my guardtower. and im not pleased with it, not to say anything offensive i think it really sucks... and would greatly appreciate tips. Im not looking for weathered effects... just a nice clean concrete guardtower... normally, this method works for me on models/and all kinds off stuff.... but not on big flat walls... Did i use a too large brush? (1.5" x 0.5" brush) a smaller brush would get me a more/better colouring overal and thus should cancel out big blobs.... but would this look even halfway decent? i dont know anymore what to do with it... help very much appreciated

Use a stippling brush for stencil work, and dot it across the surface.

|
|
Post by loempiaketzer on Apr 2, 2010 11:03:12 GMT -5
hmmmm,... this looks much more like it! picket up a smaller brush and took it a lot more carefull then the first time,... the surface is way smoothier and consistent... Its not the best paintingskill for buildings, but i fancy my scenery being fast to make, so i get lots of it, which in turn gives great battles! and since my army doesnt look that great, scenery should be taken with a grain of salt. I present to thee, the new watchtower. slapped some red on there just to see a bit more then just concrete style... the red is still wet in the pictures! so i can guarantee these pics are fresh! let me know what you think off the concrete. the red is far from done. tips on that are also welcome though!

I think it looks great! the stippling will look better from further away, so when you're playing it'll look good. Close up it des look a bit harsh, although other than drybrushing over textured paint I can't think of how to get a good concrete effect. Maybe use a sponge to dab on paint?
