Indeed I did. The sad thing is that I still need two more Ogryns (if I've done my maths properly) to finish out the bulking of the squads to have thirty of them... To eBay!!! So, in keeping with my penchant for obnoxiously amusing names, I need to solicit ideas for a name for my third Ogryn squad's Bonehead. My first squad's Bonehead is named "Boner" and his squad are "Boner's Boys." My second squad's Bonehead will be named "Nads" and his squad will be named "Nads' Lads". I need a name for the third squad's Bonehead which is fitting with the man-junk theme... Any ideas? Happily, I managed to do some hobby stuff today. I constructed some plasticard armor to stick near the mantlet of the turret of my Punisher conversion (made from an old Leman Russ kit) to match the old Demolisher kit armor that I was using. It wound up looking pretty decent, and I am pleased. Now to play the waiting game for nice weather so I can prime it, and the converted Eradicator that I also made... Ah, first though I have to do some green stuffing to fill in the ammo boxes of their heavy stubbers--I will also do some GS work on my latest squad of hunting cannon conversions as well...

Okay, here are some of my second generation Ogryns. Some of them were painted some time ago (mid-90's), and some more recently after my painting style evolved, so they're kind of a mixed bag. Converted Nork Deddog. It's Nork's body, but with a standard 2nd generation Ogryn head, and the cap from a Rogue Trader era Commissar--done to represent the cap that was gifted to Nork by a Commissar in the old fluff: My Bone'ead, "Boner" and his Boys, my first squad of Ogryns: (One's not pictured from the back because I discovered, much to my chagrin, that I had missed a bit of detail. I have painted the missing bit, but he's not pictured.)

Thanks, Yeti and cheminhaler!
I've got to work myself into a frenzy and start cranking out more of the swarm of Ogryns that I've got sitting on my painting table.
*Mumbles* "So much detail... So much detail..."

I'm impressed... you can actually do believable white cloth, mine ends up looking like paper or some sort of... I don't know, highly bleached might describe it best.

Thanks, FFE! Actually it's not white though, it's Rotting Flesh. I base coated their shirts/tank tops with Rotting Flesh, then did a wash of Chestnut ink (these guys were painted years ago before the current washes replaced the inks), and then I went back in with a fine detail brush and Rotting Flesh and highlighted the cloth. With the Ogryns I'm painting now, I'm using a similar technique, but have replaced the Chestnut ink with two applications of the Ogryn Flesh wash. I'm currently working (very slowly) on two Ogryns with tank tops, and am getting ready to go back in and highlight the tank tops. I hope that it looks as good, if not better, than my old technique. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them done. I imagine that this technique would work really well using Skull White in place of the Rotting Flesh for dirtied white cloth.

Hmm... Maybe it's just my computer screen being stupid, but the offwhite, slightly green probably is better for an army style undershirt.

Hmm... Maybe it's just my computer screen being stupid, but the offwhite, slightly green probably is better for an army style undershirt. I just messed with the screen on my laptop, and from certain angles, some of the shirts do look white... But yeah, they are all Rotting Flesh, to help tie the Ogryns in with my Catachans, since the Jungle Fighters with shirts use that color and all of my troopers also have Rotting Flesh patches on their fatigues.

Yeah, I tweaked the color settings and now they do look greenish. Also, I love that one's commissar hat...

Thanks, FFE! Yeah way back when in the fluff when Nork was first described--among other things dragging a Chimera over to the injured officer whom he was the bodyguard for "Da medi-kit is in da Chimera, Sir!"--the Commisar gifting him the cap really struck me, and it just so happened that I had a spare Rogue Trader era Commissar handy, so off with his hat! At that time there wasn't a Nork model available, so I stuck the cap onto a standard second edition Ogryn. Later, when a model for Nork was produced, I couldn't stand the head that came with it, so I ordered a Nork body and arm from GW's bits service, and then did a head swap from the model I had been using. Good times. Good times...

I was just never a fan of the ogryns at all, mainly because I just don't think I'm good enough to actually do them any justice...

I disagree. Based on what I've seen of your painting, FFE, I think that you could definitely paint up some pretty awesome looking brutes. The question is: Would you paint the new Ogryns, or the old ones from second edition like mine? (eBaying required)

Yeah, I don't know about them since I don't think I want the whole set, and it's kind of an armor bikini for one... don't get me wrong, I want something you can tell is a woman, but she just wouldn't fit in with the troops I'm thinking of going with.

Yeah, unfortunately, GW has neglected to make female Guard models for the most part.
The only other thing I can suggest is that you perhaps look at Necromunda Escher gangers. With some green stuff work, you might be able to craft fatigues for them...

Yeah, I think for the Cadians they even say the women end up in the Guard too... it'd have been nice to see a few in there...

Indeed. Definitely a symptom of the people who write the rules and fluff not communicating with the miniatures designers... It's really sad too, because I bet that GW could make a crap ton of money selling female Guard minis. I know that if there were more available for the Catachan range I'd be snapping them up like hotcakes...

I suppose that's more the trouble I have, it's in the fluff... why is it not in the minis? It makes me mad not to be able to take the idea I got from the codex and translate it into the game table.
