Indeed. But this would be alien vegetation, so who says it has to look exactly like our terrestrial "trap" plant species? Well, if you don't want it to look like a terrestrial trap, don't use the female commissar. <---On many levels, only one of which is due to the idea of sacrificing a female Commissar mini (not the Raging Heroes ones, but the actual GW one)...

Been getting myself dirty with some xeno heresy since exams ended... "For teh Greater Emprah!" A Hammerhead that I am building for my Tau Derp'n Sept army. Happened to have the old Imperial tank commander on my assembly tray and the inevitable happened... More to come soon! Edit: A crummy WIP shot of a Broadside and the Riptide:

'jealous' I too am building my riptide.. magnetizing them. Yeah, I magnetized the main weapons and the weapon arm for my 'tide last night. While I was in the midst of fiddling with the magnets two young, and very attractive, nuns knocked and my door and wanted to talk to me about Jeebus... Didn't help the magnetization process any, but I finally got it done. Had to use 3 3.2 mm magnets inside the arm, and 3 inside each gun to get them to hold. Not sure what I'm going to do with the subweapons... Also, I am working on de-derpifying the Crisis suit. Have made some progress on a prototype by changing where the arm weapons are mounted, as well as with their heads, but need some parts to work on their legs.

While I was in the midst of fiddling with the magnets two young, and very attractive, nuns knocked and my door Sounds like the beginning of a good joke. Or my ideal night in Heh. I ended up having to be rude to them and shut the door in their faces because they didn't take the hint to frak off when I answered their question about what role religion plays in my life with: "Extremely negative. The incompetence of a priest was the main contributing factor in my mom's death." They tried to give me literature in response... Anyhoo, here are some WIP shots of my Fireblade de-derpification: I haven't stuck his cloak or left shoulder armor on yet, as I want to be able to paint all parts of the model. The cloak fits on pretty neatly, though, and the join is on the left shoulder, and is conveniently covered up by the shoulder armor piece. So far I'm pleased and think it's a vast improvement over the stock mini, whom I look at and imagine he's saying: "Durr... Dis iz mai bonding knife! Hurr... I jus' peed, but itz naht pee." I should be picking up a Battleforce tomorrow, and may start having a go at converting my Farsight counts as, Commander Nearsight (O'Novah).

Thanks, Ivory! I think they're done some neat stuff with the new minis. I just wish the XV8 would have gotten a re-cut. Although I have yet to get any XV8 kits since the release--I may be getting some tomorrow, and I'm hoping they did something with the legs. If not, I'm devising plans to convert them... Anyhoo, I just bashed out a quick color scheme test for my Sept using an old metal Pathfinder Shas'ui. Just did basic colors and a wash and highlight on the armor plates. I think the undersuit will need highlighting, and I'm wondering about applying the Sept color on the lower legs? Will possibly be trying to make the pink on the scanner under the carbine look "glowy". Armor was Castellan green base, Argax wash, then Loren Forest (I think?) highlight. May need a lighter green to do edge highlights. I am pleased with how it's turned out so far... *Ramba Ral voice* "This is no Zaku!"

Thanks, Dave!
I'm going to try and get the Fireblade primed tomorrow, and then head out to pick up the Battleforce. I managed to snag 2 Piranhas at a local game store (the one that smells of pee and shame, not the cool one) and was building on one earlier. I'm going to have a bunch of stuff ready to prime by the end of next week, hopefully. Will try to get the Fireblade painted up so I'll have a better idea of how more armored Tau will look (since the Pathfinders really only have the torso armor and helmet going on).
I'm happy with how quickly I banged out the test mini. Only took about an hour, and a substantial amount of that time was waiting for the Argax wash to dry, so I think I may have finally found an army that I can paint quickly! ;D

Will you be using the new plastic Pathfinders in amongst some Firewarriors? That's what I want to see! More poses! Lol

I'll have to check out your Warhawks. Will you be using the new plastic Pathfinders in amongst some Firewarriors? That's what I want to see! More poses! Lol Cosmic, yes--don't you worry; I've got a box of the plastic Pathfinders, but I just haven't gotten around to putting any of them together yet. I got them the same weekend I got the Riptide. TBH, aside from the Fireblade, the only infantry work I've done is to clean up and glue the legs of my first box of Firewarriors to their bases.

I was hoping to have some photos of my WIP prototype for the XV8 Crisis suit de-derpification project today. Unfortunately it is pee-peeing down rain outside today, and my attempts to use poster putty to stick the prototype together and onto a base for photos didn't work.
Essentially what I've done is cut off the lower legs of the stock Crisis suit bits, and hollow out the inner knee joint. I then took the lower legs from a new Broadside kit, cut them down, liberating them from the thighs and removing the hydraulic stabilizers on their backs, and then carved/filed down a new inner knee joint, which slots into the hollowed out Crisis knee. I then cut the foot mounting balls off of the stock Crisis lower legs, and pinned them onto the ankles of the modified Broadside lower legs. These bits can be fit together with a variety of different poses--I actually sot of replicated the "Char kick" from Gundam last night, and I am taking steps to be able to make as many of these lower leg assemblies as I will need. My tester on that is curing right now... Once assembled the new legs are significantly longer than the stock Crisis legs, and make the suit much better proportioned. I may wind up using Firewarrior shoulder pads to armor the front of the knee joint, as they fit quite well and look cool.
In addition, I've repositioned where the weapons fit on the arms, and am scavenging better-looking heads from the Riptide and Broadside kits to make them look uber cool. Hopefully I will have an assembled prototype ready in the next few days, if my lower leg mass production effort pays off... Watch this space!
In another nod to Gundam, I am calling my modified Crisis suits the XV-EZ8... ;D

I was so exited for photos and you disappointed me! Where's my whip?!
You should seriously set up a light box so your crappy weather can't impede your showing off of plasticrack!

Hey Walrus, I'm sowwy... Actually, I can take photos inside, even though they aren't great. The main problem yesterday, however, was that there are far too many joins for the modified XV8 to stand stably on a base when being held together with putty. However, my first attempt at casting leg parts should be ready today, so one I get them popped out of the mold, cleaned up and glued together, expect to see a photo of a glued together XV-EZ8!

Wait, so with this mould you can technically make as many copies as you want, in as many different poses because of the original changeable one??

Wait, so with this mould you can technically make as many copies as you want, in as many different poses because of the original changeable one?? Theoretically yes, because I am casting my own custom lower leg bits, which I designed so they would be able to be posed. Sadly, I just popped the first set I molded yesterday out of the molds, and the GS I was using had gone bad, and the binary strip didn't mix as thoroughly as it should have (there were still chunks of yellow inside areas of green when I was cutting the pieces down), so it didn't cure correctly. The bits were well enough cast, but the material was rubbery and flexible, and didn't clean up well. I shall be nipping off later on to get some fresher GS and hopefully will give it another go either later this evening or tomorrow... In other news I picked up my third Broadside today, along with a Battleforce, and the flyer--just because I think it looks neat. The XV8 sprue, from looking at the ones included in the Battleforce, did not get a re-cut, and the Crisis legs are still the derpy single part ones from days gone by.

Also, a tide you over photo of "teh awesomez": "Lock S-foils in attack position." The articulated doors for the seeker missile bays on the new Tau flyer are pretty nifty, and it looks like this kit will be pretty easy to modularize so it can be flopped back and forth between the fighter and the bomber with only a couple of extra bits needing to be purchased (the nose turret and extra drone bodies).

Walrus, that is the initial stages of the build of this kit: New Tau flyer.I don't know if I will ever use it in either configuration in a game as it's kind of anemic, but I picked it up purely for the joy of building a flyer that looks like it can actually fly. It's a really nicely designed kit--many of the parts fit so well that they almost don't need glue, when I was dry-fitting some pieces I actually almost couldn't get them apart again because they fit so tightly together. Neat stuff.

"Would you magnetize me? I'd magnetize me. I'd magnetize me so hard..." *"Goodbye Horses" by Q Lazzarus starts playing* Progress on the new Tau flyer. Very fun kit to build! Cockpit and tail mount: Seeker missile bay: Underside where the Pulse Bomb generator parts mount (note the Air Caste symbol--the small magnet I stuck in perfectly replaced the dot that is in the symbol): Seeker missile: Seeker missile in place: Pulse Bomb generator half: Pulse Bomb generator other half: Rear missile pod mount for the bomber: Tail plate for the fighter: Cockpit pods: Quad ion cannon--not magnetized because it is a plug and twist turret fitting: Fighter cockpit and Seeker Missiles: Fighter tail plate: Pulse Bomb generator: Bomber cockpit: Bomber missile pod: Bomber twin-linked missile pods:

Up all night last night working on Tau stuff. Cranked out my two remaining Broadsides, went on a bits clipping/empty sprue tossing spree, and spent a good 7 hours working on the conversion for Commander Nearsight's (O'Novah) battlesuit... Dry fit of the arms, shield, and head: Jet pack converted to have "high maneuverability type" vanes: The Dusk Blade: So far I'm quite chuffed with how it's going--however my Instant Mold/GS efforts at replicating my leg de-derping master parts have not met with any success, so I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go with resin casting. Trying to find an art supply or hobby shop near me that carries what I will need, and am not turning up anything so far, so I may have to order from Alumilite...

I'm ecstatic to see that so far you seem to be leaving off those pathetic long side struts on the Tau Flyer, they look hideous! Pease tell me you're leaving them off?

Pease tell me you're leaving them off? Thanks, Cosmic! I'll be leaving the struts off when I'm fielding the flyer in the fighter configuration as it makes the flyer look much faster and more nimble, but will be putting them on when (if) I ever use it as the bomber, as they make it look lumbering and clunky... like a bomber. The nice thing is that they fit and stay in place just from friction, so there's no need to fuss with magnetizing them. It's actually a really fun kit to build, and I love the fact that it actually looks like something that could really fly!
