Glad you like Commander Nearsight's WIP. I'm hoping to get the issue sorted that will allow me to produce the lower leg bits that I need to truly de-derpify the Crisis suit. Instant Mold and GS has failed in all attempts, so I'm looking at doing resin molding. Need to look at Alumilite's site and figure out what I need, since it seems that my local art supply and/or hobby stores don't carry the necessary materials/kits.

I can see you deploying these and saying "I heard you like missiles, so I brought extra for you to have."
But personally I think that broadside looks way over balanced. I don't know if it's camera angle or not but it seems really off centre.

It's probably from how the torso and arms are angled. They're all dry fit, so things were swinging about. Also, due to how the kit's legs go together, there's not a great deal of leeway and how they can be assembled. Works great for the railgun ones, but yeah I'm going to have to fuss with the missile one for a bit in order to find a good pose.

A little bit of work with MS Paint and I have produced the symbol for the Derp'n Sept. It's Grumpy Cat's face meeting the Angry Marines' symbol, but with a Tau spin...

Hhahahaa looks like a pokeball but it works Hehehehe... It also somewhat channels Haro from Gundam. The best thing is that I have a gaming buddy who plays Farsight Enclave and he despises Grumpy Cat, so I'm hoping we will have some epic Tau versus Tau smackdown as our Septs go to war against each other once I get my army finished and taunt him with the symbol... "F*#k the Greater Good!" ;D

Well, we finally got a decent day to do some priming here in the D.C. area. Here's some of the Tau stuff I've built in the past month finally getting sprayed... Not pictured: The flyer, a Piranha, my Hammerhead, and various drones...

These are awesome, love the amount of intricate detail you've put into them. If I can just add, one of those battle suits with the wrist mounted missile pods looks a little "front heavy", perhaps a smaller, more compact variant of it whilst retaining the same rules would prevent it from falling forwards. Other than that (the good ole "I've found a modelling imperfection") this force is looking spot on. Will your commander be following the rules for O'Shavah? Also what color scheme are you contemplating? If I may suggest, how about a digital scheme? Similar to the American soldiers? I dunno it just looks tactical, technical and advanced lol.

This was the color tester I did a while back--gonna make my Tau look like Zeon Zakus from real Gundam--since Tau are the "anime army." Even the Hammerheads, Devilfish, and Flyers are going to have pink mono-eyes in their forward viewport doo-dads. I'm not completely chuffed with the giant missile pod arms on the missile Broadside variant, either TBH. But those are the stock parts that the kit comes with. Once I really get my resin casting stuff going--the next thing I have to do--I may have to have a go at making better pods to replace them with... Oh yeah, and O'Novah will follow the rules for Farsight, unless I feel like doing something different in which case I will use him as a "roll your own" Battlesuit commander and count the Dusk Blade as the "Donkey Punch" signature system, and give him the special jet system upgrade.

Love the colour scheme, sure I said that before too. Quite question, did you undercoat in black then spray white print from above to pre-shade them? If not I'm totally going to see if that works... no need to highlight later

It's something I've heard of, but have never tried. Also, it appears that I have lost a part of my Hammerhead--the little doo-dad that holds the front sensor turret in place...

Give it a go, Adken. The same principle is used with an airbrush to create highlights so as long as you're delicate with the spray can, it should work.

Yeah, that's where I've seen the technique from, with an airbrush... What you're seeing in my photo is just reflection of sunlight from the upper surfaces of the black priming job. Good news: the bit I thought I lost wasn't actually lost, it was just hiding in plain sight.

I actually have some models I don't particularly want so I let my son play about with em.. just primed them to speed paint so I can use them as testers. I thought it could have been the sun.

Thank you, Cosmic! I've got two more Shas'ui in progress--one of whom is a Pathfinder. Trying to exercise restraint and get the two of them done before before diving into a Broadside or the Riptide... *Bounces excitedly*

It's been a while since I've updated this thread, so here you go! Finally got my finished Tau based. These were the last minis I painted before L'il Man became ill. I finished their bases with Citadel textured paint and some static flock. If L'il Man hadn't gotten sick I would have two squads of Fire Warriors completed by now, giving me a small but legal force with the Fireblade as the HQ... And here is the WIP for my Dire Avenger test. Had these guys for a while, and am now finally getting around to painting them with the new paints, and I've got to say that the system is pretty spiffy. Although the highlights aren't showing up too well in the photo the armor was done with Macragge Blue as a base, washed with Drakenhof Nightshade, then worked back up with Macragge to an Alaitoc Blue highlight, and then an extreme edge highlight with Hoeth Blue. Still have to do the jewel effects on the eyes and spirit stone, and wash the helmet and tabard, and then figure out what colors I'm going to use on the crest--thinking red, yellow, black, and white stripes...

Thanks Ponen! I'm happy with how the Fireblade turned out as well, and my buddies at the gaming club also commented that it looks much better than the stock miniature. Very simple conversion to do: Just stick a regular Fire Warrior helmet in place of the head, and then use a Shas'ui Pathfinder arm to replace the knife holding arm, blend the parts together with a little liquid GS and the job's a good'un!

Thanks, Cosmic! Actually when I was up at the game club last weekend a new member brought his Tau, and their scheme was quite similar to mine, although they also used some of the Rotting Flesh equivalent, and some angular camo schemes to break up the solid olive green on their vehicles.

Hurrah! Used one of my Wild Riders as a test bed for the new Saim-Hann armor paint scheme, and it turned out quite well. I should now be set to repaint all of my Saim-Hann Guardians and vehicles whose paint schemes I was never satisfied with. Hopefully I can take some photos of it tomorrow and post them. All I've got to do is figure out a Wild Rider clan stripe design and apply it to the body of the jetbike. I'm also going to try re-snapping some shots of the Dire Avenger test mini, as clouds blew in before I photographed it, and the light wasn't good enough to really show off the highlights.
