Saw a real life model in the glass box at GW. It wasnt painted and it was missing the turret, but I actually like it. Its around the size of the valk. I was expecting it to be smaller and stubbier. But I think it looks how its supposed to - a little thunderhawk.
Over all, I think the bad press for the model itself is unjustified... but the rules however could be another issue. But thats something I dont know about...

Saw and touched the model. Still think it's horrible.

Hmmmm... extend the back and get rid of those silly bolter turrets... lengthen the tail It lends it self to some sudden crazy conversion ideas....
however without some conversion work I agree it does look like a flying goldfish cracker

So, from reading the latest White Dwarf and the description of the rear landing gear as having "magna clamps" it appears that a transported Dreadnought dangles from the rear landing gear... *Gags at the Space Guppy even more* What a poorly thought out piece of crap this kit is. They've got an interview with the designer in White Dwarf, and I'm tempted to send him hate mail.

They is a small disk under the tail thats supposed to magnitise the dred. It would have looked better if they was something more tangiable there like clamps. I was talking to the guy in my local GW store and when I said 'It looked abit weired but i like it' he got defencive about it. Apparently its built so stubby and short so it can move in and out quickly tactically, and get into tight spaces. TBH, a Valk can get into a tight space, by making space with rocket pods...

I know I've said it before, but it's worth repeating. A Dreadnought, by GW's fluff, holds a venerated hero of the Chapter. I think they deserve more dignity than being carried onto the battlefield by a hideous flying version of one of these... That said, I've seen the box in my local store, and it looks pretty good in "Grey Knight Silver". I think part of the problem is that the red makes it look more like something D*ck Dastardly and Muttley would use to chase Yankee Doodle Pigeon around in. reds

Entry for golden daemon open category. 40k catch da pidgeon! In all seriousness, that would be an awesome thing to see at a Games Day, just for the sheer number of conversions. Reds

Lol. Oh and another thing. GW guy said they is no resion for it not to be used by any SM chapter. Something to do with the rules being published in WD and it not saying the its for a set chapter.

Finally got round to seeingit in the flesh - it looks a whole heap better than in the pictures...
Still not getting one, but this is now more to do with not "needing" it now then anything else.
As for it being useable by any Marine chapter... well... it's "your" hobby, so you can do whatever you like, but still... to me it should only really be used by Blood Angels, their successors, and apparently Grey Knights.

I dont get why its relesed for limited SM chapters though. Its ment to be a small verient of the Thunderhawk, so why would only the BA or GK think of using this? TBH Im not that bothered. Iv just changed my plans for world domination anyway. My Ultramarine force is going to be drop pods force, then im going for a GK in the Guppy for my next force (as long as GK are plastics). While doing this building up my guard! Thats the plan anyway...

According to the fluff in the Blood Angels' codex (warning, Mat Ward insipidness to follow) the Stormraven's STC hasn't been fully proved yet as being pure/free from taint, so it hasn't been put into production by the Mechanicus yet, and the Blood Angels are the test chapter; or there is something wonky going on with the distribution of the plans to other chapters besides the Blood Angels and Grey Knights due to the inertia of the Administratum or somesuch.
My guess, from the buzz that's been floating around, is that there is going to be a White Dwarf article sometime in the not so distant future that is gong to make the Stormraven Space Guppy available to the bulk (if not all) Space Marine chapters. This makes sense from Games Workshop's point of view, since lots of Marine players will probably run out and buy the (awful) kit which means more money for them.

Too bad anything in WD is only an optional supplement, which means it needs an opponent's permission. I think what really happened is Matt Ward liked the Valk, and thought Marines needed them so he put it in the next SM codex he got a chance to write.
On a related note, a quick survey of the codecies my store this past Saturday proved to me that only Phil Kelly should be allowed to write them, and Matt Ward should be legally restrained from any form of respiration.
@rt: A well played edit, sir. I let your correction stand.

I agree. Mat Ward's ability to convert oxygen into carbon dioxide should be revoked.
Unfortunately, though, if GW decrees in a WD article that something is "official" then it pretty much will greenlight other Marines to use the Space Guppy, if they do go the route of writing an article to allow other Marines to have it.

If they try that, I'm going to bust out the old WDs with alternate doctrines in them and use them in my list. Reds

Which codices did Phil Kelly do?
And dare I ask, what about Robin Cruddace? Sure, Tyranids wasn't great, but the Guard book seems good to me.

Kelly wrote Space Wolves and DE. I consider them both to be strong, but not unbeatable, and very much in flavor with the fluff of their armies. Cruddace needs to get a few more practice ones under his belt, but he has potential.

Kelly wrote Space Wolves and DE. Also Orks and Craftworld Eldar, and maybe some others... but those are the books I have with his name on them.

True, and I'm also a fan of the Ork book. Those two I listed are his "5th Edition" works, though. I'm personally a big fan of the Space Wolves 'dex, not only for the rules, but just because he managed to take Marines and make the army as unique as Space Wolves should be. I still feel that BA are "Red Marines" (and go fasta because of that), and Ward just ladled a bunch of extra awesomesauce on them without putting a huge amount of thought into it.

Aw but the BA ought to be Marines with an extra side of red sauce.
They're doing their best to fit in and trying to keep the whole vampire/bezerker/bloodlust thing under wraps...
