Yeah, I wish I could paint glass like that, I've got no idea how to do it, that was the one thing I've never mastered...

Yeah, I wish I could paint glass like that, I've got no idea how to do it, that was the one thing I've never mastered... Lenses are actually fairly straightforward to do, once you learn the tricks... Basically you start by putting down a base color across the entire surface of the lens. Then, on the upper part of the lens, apply the base color mixed with some black in a crescent pattern. On the lower part of the lens apply the base color mixed with some white in a complementary crescent. Next, at the extreme top and bottom of the lens apply pure black and pure white, respectively, in a small strip following the edge of the lens. Then in the middle of the lens reapply the base color, and feather it out into the darker and lighter areas so it blends and forms a gradient. Apply a small dot of pure white in the dark portion of the lens, and then go around the very edge of the lens with black.

Cheers everyone FFE: Yeah just as Trooper said they're quite easy, I do mine a little differently though. Just a plain black base, and then layer up one edge adding the colour you want, just adding white each time, then a white dot in the corner on top of the black. I'm really busy this weekend so I'm afraid another update won't come for a couple of days. Cosmic

Right well that last post was a bit of a lie...I've found some free time! The Command Squad is done mostly, just need to do the other side of the banner.... Just a Servo-Skull I was painting up, no real use but hey ho.... NOTES: 1) I hate the Banner. I don't know why but I just hate these banners, I think it's because they're not plain, so you can't do your own designs. Anyway this one will have to stay for the moment, I'll probably change it eventually. 2) I can't seem to take good photo's anymore. Again, I'll try and take some better ones soon. 3) Hope you like Cosmic

I think the banner looks fine, but it would be nice to have to option to do our own designs.

It really would, I don't like either of the designs they give you. Bob the Servo-skull is done I'm currently painting up 3 more, not sure why, but I'm sure I'll find a use for them!

Interesting choice of weapons for a command squad. Why do you have a flamer with a sniper rifle?
Excellent painting and shading btw

Mainly because they look cool. I don't actually play, so I'm not limited with the loadout. I'm just mking and painting, if and when I do start to play I can just pick and choose what to have. (Once I've bulked the force up of course)

I need to learn to pain that good that fast... my one trooper took me two days, that's not exactly a good pace for an entire army of them.

I saw your Guardsmen and it's a fantastic start But wow 2 days is definitely a long time! You need to remember though that the scheme I chose is based all around the white basecoat, that's the only reason I'm churning these out quickly....a limited palette that can be painted on to different sections at a time. I'd like to see more of your minis when you get round to it

I did see a tin of quick shade stuff by army painter when I was buying my first set of guardsmen, I'm considering trying it to see if the stuff works, because that would really shorten my time on each one. Really, I think the only reason he took so long was because I spent the whole time debating color choices.

Amazing stuff as always, cosmiccastaway! All servo skulls must be named Bob! FFE: choosing your color scheme is usually the most time consuming part. Now that you know what you want, I wouldn't be surprised if you started cranking out the troopers!

This may also be a dumb question... do Servo-Skulls actually do anything or is it just a decoration? Also, I'm not sure I want to invest the $30 for a tin of the quick shade, but at the same time when I'm trying to finish a whole line of troopers, it might just be worth it...

FFE: Good question......I have no idea! I don't play so I'm not sure of their effectivness, however I do believe they are good for acting as spotters for artillery units? Trooper: Cheers mate, well these new ones aren't called Bob I'm afraid....but nevertheless I'd like you to meet Terry, Paul and John Bob, Terry, Paul and John Soon to be finished... Cosmic

Loving the servo skulls - if nothing else they'll be a fun addition to have floating around command squad etc.
Then again, maybe you'll do a Daemon Hunters army - servo skulls have a use (albeit a bit of a boring one)...
Are they the Servo skulls from ForgeWorld by the way?

Yeah I don't really care that they're pointless, they're just cool to look at.
I was tempted by the new Grey Knights, but I'm a little fed up of painting Space Marines :/
No they're not, they're from the Cadian Command Squad and SM Devastators. I've just found another one in my bitz box so I now have 5...woooo!

I really do love your Servo Skulls, they look really cool and could perhaps double as objective markers?

Thats a good idea actually... having the servo skulls as objectives

Some one call a medic for the medic! Haha I thought it would be a good sense of irony! And without further ado, here are the finished Servo-skulls Bob, Terry, Paul, John and now Victor.... Also some better Army shots..... And why not add in some Astartes.... Well that's all folks. Until next time. Cosmic
