Hello all. This thread started as a countdown to a tournamet in April 2011. I'm now converting it into my modelling blog for my army, the Osarian 10th. If you scoot on to the second page you will see new updates, which are counting down to a new tournament. 8th Nov 2011 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Behold Major Savoy Watson: Previously a full Colonel of the 26th Osarian Artillery Regiment, he was demoted for incompetence and now is a lowly infantry Major in the Osarian 10th. By far the oldest member of the regiment, it is a wonder that Watson is still alive, as he is reknown for his gung-ho, cavalier attitude to combat. He is commonly referred to as “Savvy Savoy”, due to his habit of surviving his frequent, gross tactical blunders. The riflemen serving under him are generally not so lucky, which is why he is viewed with dread wherever he goes. Watson took personal command of Baker Company, of the Second Battalion, who are notably more skilled than their fellow companies. This is due to nothing more than their need to become self sufficient due to his stunning incompetence in the field. Watson is an artillery man through-and-through, but due to the circumstances of his discharge from the 26th Artillery (an incident involving the destruction of an Inquisitorial Land Raider), he is refused anything more potent than a Griffon heavy mortar carriers. However Watson isn’t called “Savvy Savoy” for nothing, and he blackmailed the new CO of the 26th into giving him access to the regiment’s platoon of Blitzen 88 Batteries. Initially designed as AA guns, Watson had these obsolete artillery pieces modified to act as field guns. So far the Blitzen 88 Field Guns have vastly outperformed all expectations in combat, which has served to further inflate Watson’s already substantial ego. This is my new CO - I needed a basic commander model without any special wargear, and since I had no use for my Master of Ordnance model, the inevitable happened. I accidently streaked his top lip with white while painting, and at that moment, with strains of Rule Britannia ringing in my ears, Major Savoy Watson was born. I didn’t want to make him the usual young, kick-arse, I’m as tough as nails, look at how awesome I am, type of commander that is prevalent at the head of most IG armies. Instead I thought I’d have an aging, incompetent, cavalier artilleryman. I’m already looking forward to his first outing in the field. I also finished the rest of his squad today. I painted the vox man’s side cap and Savoy’s wrisgirl thingych blue to tie them both in with the plasmaguns in an attempt at creating a little squad cohesion. Here are some other recently painted models: Vet squad Blitzen 88 88 Crew Yes, yes, pink side caps, I know. I chose this colour because it is the colour I use for stowage on my tanks. I didn’t like it at first, but it has grown on me. I can now call this squad pansies, which means when they blow up a land raider I can say “Ha ha, your land raider just got blown up by a bunch of pansies!” Also, I haven't painted the meltagunner's banner yet. I’m not exactly the best painter around, but these models are a bit rough, even by my standards. I have a tournament coming up in 3 weeks, so all I care about for the minute is that they look reasonable. I will come back in the future to fix them up properly.

These are very nice! I really like your CO's massive sword, and the directional lighting on the plasmaguns is done really well!
Exellent work!

I like the painting personally, its got your own 'style' to it. Love the choice of colours too, the pinks and blues contrast nicely with the green and browns. Lovely!

Thank you for your positive comments, the encouragement goes along way. Ask and you shall receive - I have just finished painting the 1500 points for my first tournament in two weeks (Melbourne in Flames). Some of these models were already painted, but about 5-6 weeks ago most of the vehicles and about half of the infantry were not. I must reiterate that these are a tad rough because I'm a little rushed. Anyway, here are the finished results: Devildog: Blitzen 88 (Basilisk), Russ, Griffon and another Devildog: Platoon and Storm Troopers: CCS and Veterans: Their Chimeras: Finally, here are some whole-army shots: Hope you like them, any comments/criticism/advice/abuse are welcome and appreciated.

I have a few mopping-up additions. First is a third 40mm objective - I just used an executioner cannon to make a plasma generator (still need to paint this): Second up is my partially painted 60mm objective. The guardsman is largely painted, but needs cleaning (and bloodying) up. The banner is only in its very early stages of painting): Due to time constraints I've formally given up on painting up my new storm troopers, so as a result I've drawn upon my old models. These were the first guard models I acquired, and I still love them. To fit the sergeant into the new rules I knocked up a hellgun (so I don't get some snotty nosed girl thingy going "WYSIWYG - he has a bolt pistol, he doesn't have a hellgun, I'm going to have a sook and winge". This is painful, as I always thought this guy looked great with the bolt pistol, but oh well: Last up are some kill point counters: Once the two above unpainted objectives are done, and I've printed out some paperwork (army lists, really brief fluff (essentially the bit on Major Watson above), and some FAQs), I'm completely ready for this tournament.... oh, except for the gross unpreparedness in actual gaming ability......

Thank you for the positive comments guys.
@ Walrus, this is how I explain the kill markers: Artefact – Watson ordered a rifleman to retrieve an artefact for his personal collection from no-man’s-land. After the soldier is pinned down Watson orders the company to mobilise to retrieve the artefact. Generator – Watson needs to secure the plasma generator so he can charge his iPod. Shells – I have artillery, so acquiring ammunition seems to be a logical course of action (rather boring really) Fallen banner – Watson wanted to give his artillery target practice, so he ordered the company banner to run around no-man’s-land.
@ Twitch, I’m currently using the 88 as a basilisk, but do like using it as an immobile earthshaker (cheap and rather effective)
@ LemonKing, don’t be fooled by my mediocre photography, my painting is not that great. It is reasonable by gaming terms, and looks cohesive, but that is about it. I’ve been in the hobby almost 10 years and this is as far as my painting skills have progressed. The faces are a good point, because whilst they look flat, they are the best I can do without agonising over each one for over an hour.
I’ve written up a little bit of fluff to accompany the army to this tournament. The second bit is an edited version of Watson’s fluff above. Tell me what you think:
Osarian 10th Regiment Baker Company – 2nd Battalion
The Osarian 10th first came to prominence during the Morrak Necron incursion. The 1st Battalion commander, Major Speirs, saved the 10th from destruction and led the regiment to victory over its insidious foe. The success brought the regiment to the attention of the Inquisition. Inquisitor Liechtenstein of the Ordos Hereticus regularly utilises the 10th in his quest to bring the radical Inquisitor Lucien to justice. Whilst Liechtenstein’s tenacity has been foiled to date by Lucien’s cunning (much to the expense and guile of his superiors), the 10th has served with nothing but distinction.
Commanding the 2nd Battalion is Major Savoy Watson. Previously a full Colonel of the 10th’s sister regiment, the 26th Osarian Artillery, he was demoted and transferred for incompetence and is now a lowly infantry Major. By far the oldest member of the regiment, it is a wonder that Watson is still alive, as he is renowned for his gung-ho, cavalier attitude to combat. He is commonly referred to as “Savvy Savoy”, due to his habit of surviving his frequent, gross tactical blunders. The riflemen serving under him are generally not so lucky, which is why he is viewed with dread wherever he goes. Watson takes personal command of Baker Company, who are now notably more competent than their fellow companies, due to their need to cope with Watson’s ineptitude.
Watson is an artillery man through-and-through, but due to the circumstances of his discharge from the 26th Artillery (an incident involving the destruction of an Inquisitorial Land Raider) he was refused anything more potent than Griffon heavy mortar carriers. However Watson isn’t called “Savvy Savoy” for nothing, and he blackmailed the new commander of the 26th into giving him access to the regiment’s platoon of Blitzen 88 Batteries. Initially designed as AA guns, Watson had these obsolete artillery pieces modified to act as field guns. So far the converted 88 Field Guns have performed admirably, serving to further inflate Watson’s already substantial ego.

Hahahah when I saw the Tiger/King Tiger I thought of this line www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HUUO5vW22k (skip to 1:20->1:30) Where did you get the turret for that anyway? Also I think walrus meant explain the kill-point markers, (the 20 or so 40mm bases with numerals on them), not the objectives

Oh, the kill point markers, right. I just figured that each was worth one point, and they were numbered. I didn't end up using them anyway (opponent had poker chips) I made the Tiger turret using a jam jar lid and lots of plasticard. I had a blast at Melbourne in Flames over the weekend. I won two games and lost three. For comprehensive coverage (and a rediculous number of photos), go here: www.commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=aar&thread=12834&page=1

I’m back in business baby(ies)!!!
Hello all on this fine day! I’ve just finished my exams and am currently beginning my glorious three weeks of holidays. I’ve had a extremely busy two-three months (since that tournament in April), and now I’m planning on recuperating in style – and we all know that means warhammer, and lots of it.
I have some significant scheming in order for the next three weeks. There are assorted Imperial Guard models and small projects (one which I’m very interested to see the results). The second is a re-vamp of my old 13th Company Space Wolves, adapting them to the new Space Wolves Codex – this will involve about 15 models and a strange experiment. Finally I also have plans for something a little... um... “bigger”... I will say no more about this however, because this one will be truly worth the wait (surprise/shock/horror... Mwahahaha!!!!)
This is basically a “watch this space”, and it won’t be long before it starts accumulating goodies.

Hello hello, greetings all. Finally managed to get some stuff worthy of posting up. First up is my new squad of Ogryns. I’ve had an on and off want for these guys over the years, at times liking or disliking the GW models. I’ve always liked the idea of regular humans in exo-suits to represent an ogryn unit, and I recently spied these puppies at a gaming store and just had to have them. They are armoured suits from the Incursion range (incursiongame.com is about the only info I can give). The plan was to use regular IG Infantry heads, but they were just a tad too big to fit between the shoulders (the whole scale is just a smidgeon smaller). As a result I’ve used my West-Wind Soviet Side Cap heads. They are largely unaltered. I’m also currently shy of 60mm bases. Here they are: Squad: Ripper Gun (cut down heavy stubber with grenade launcher magazine): Bone ‘Ead (or “Sergeant” as I think is more appropriate): Assorted squad members: I used the existing weapon for this guy, except I increased the barrel tip to “40K” proportions: By majorspeirs at 2011-06-30 Unfortunately they aren’t likely to be painted for a while so I’ll squash any hopes of that now. If you have any suggested improvements now is therefore the time to speak up! Secondly I finally pulled my finger out and bought the Commissar Lord model. I loved it the moment I laid eyes on it and finally bought one of these “fine-cast” versions. I’ve heard a few nasty stories about air bubbles and other nasties, but this model is largely fine. My one gripe is that the trim on the bottom of the chest-plate doesn’t meet in the centre. Aside from this I found the resin very versatile and easy to work with. I used hot water to slightly re-position the left arm and re-positioned the sword (using traditional methods (i.e. a knife)). These small adjustments to the left arm improve the model vastly, as he is no longer “mid-swipe” with his sword: Next I have been working on bringing my 13th Company up to speed with the new SW codex. These guys (aside from my Teddy Bear Titan) are my principle project these holidays, as the army was 80% complete to begin with. Here are some upgraded (and new) models: Not sure whether I like the “mask” style helmet I’ve made for the Wolf Priest. I may scrap this: Just to note, updates of the Teddy Bear Titan are in the works, I had some issues working out how to do the arms, but they have been resolved and I’m getting back to it tomorrow.

@ Prilladog, I'm based in Melbourne, Australia
Also @ somethingyellow and Beav(Burger)
Camberwell is hardly my neck of the woods, but I'm up for having a game (games) sometime (four-way-carnage games are always fun ;D ). Send me a pm if you're interested - given a few weeks notice I'm sure I can work something out around uni/work/etc.
Tomorrow I'm going to base my Ogryns, then after that I'm going to start painting. First up are my 13th Company, followed by about 10 specific guardsmen, then the Ogryns. There will probably be updates over the weekend (I really should stop giving too specific dates, as I usually end up posting whatever it is over a week later...).
